Is there such a thing as a very, very vertical tower? Something like those wall mounted PCs but on a desk?I have a lot of vertical space (obviously, up to the ceiling) but my desk has limited horizontal space for reasons.Unfortunately my build is full ATX, a big ass 9070xt and I currently have a 360 AIO and a power supply that I stupidly bought because it has ports on the side instead of the back (RM850x shift). Should I go for AIO CPU cooling or not? I feel like it would be nice to build a custom water cooling loop, but I'm too retarded and don't want to bother anyway, so AIO is the only choice for water cooling for me. But if I use it, it feels kinda weird that I'm water cooling the CPU, but still air cooling the GPU.Should I go for water cooling at all? Or should stick to air cooling?
>>108559739Should have spent "a few" more bucks and enjoy state of the art and lack of frustration...That's what I'm thinking . I run a 3.1 setup in my home theater and it's served me very well, everyone I've shown it off to is impressed. >white noise when idle. Before I went deep down the home theater rabbit hole, I had this issue with my Edifier setup. I was only able to remedy it with a coax cable. I nonstop emailed them about their noise floor and they ended up sending me another $300 set (s350db, they're charging $500 for them now) for free lol. fywiw, Edifier makes pretty decent PC speakers. If you can, try to find some smaller desktop speakers like Edifiers or Kanto's (You can add a sub to these in the future, but they're quiet pricey and I've never owned them, but they're well regarded). imo, It's not worth pursuing any of the more premium speaker options for your desktop (like expensive KEF LS50s (I use KEFs for my home theater, but I would never drop $1500 on powered speakers)). Having a sub changes everything, so go for an option with that if you can even if it's none of the examples I listed. Audiophile boomers can fuck off, home theater chads know what's best ;)

Can get a 3080ti for less than £400 off ebay, worth it? The closest modern gpu to this price is the 8gb 5060ti.
>>108561709not a goober question and i'm kind of in the same boat, I fell for the "1000w is plenty for a 5090" meme and before I undervolted my gpu I had a similar random shutdown, so I'm all for headroom.1500W might be pushing it but for a brand new PSU that's expected to live through a few builds idk. if you expect to be near the top end of the market it starts to seem practically prudent when you consider the general trend of the high end outpacing efficiency gains and the greatly expanding CPU core counts we already know are coming from both amd/intel.
>>108561972>The closest modern gpu to this price is the 8gb 5060ti.What about the 16gb variant?

>>108561993Cheapest one is £480 whilst cheapest 3080ti is £355
>>108561972Yes, the 3080 was the last real 80 series card njudea released. The 3080ti basically matches the 5070 although the 50 series has better RT.
>>108561972i wouldnt bother with it unless you really need a gpu right now, Ampere is really old, you are better saving some money and getting a 5070 on november when the prices are better even if its 550 i know it sucks but buying budget cards its just not worth it, you will be missing on RR, pathtracing and tons of logevity and 3 year of warranty because you cheapen out on 150
>>108561972Either that or save another 100* for a 5070, which would be usually not too far off in raster but everything else would be a lot better + you're not gambling on a used gpu that was probably full throttle for like 3 years straight (mining)60ti v 70 is too close in price to make a lot of sense for gayming, and the 70ti you're paying 50%+ for.
>>108561972>>108562174I would stay away from the ti series cards for gaming. The reason people faun over the 5060ti and 5070ti is the vram that isn't even ideal for gaming. The 5060ti isn't going to do shit with 16gb of vram and 5070ti struggles to make use of it.That being said when running programs that are resource dependant like ai and heavy video editing it works out. For every one gaming they're just going to be sitting there with unused vram and memory bandwidth.
>>108561972I had a regular 3080 for a few years. It was a good card and easily capable of 1440p and 4k gaming with some DLSS. The biggest problem was the power usage and resulting heat. 30 series cards were inefficient as fuck out of the box and you can shave 80-100w off with a light undervolt. In the end I decided to replace it with a 50 series card because I like to have a quiet and cool system.
>>108560090Most everything not CPU and GPU could use a refresh. But the problem is that with modern parts you're really looking for negatives rather than positives because the average has reached near universal okayness. So instead of recommending cases, coolers, storage, monitors and such, it really could be condensed down to recommendations against anything with known issues. Everything else should be up to individual preferences at this point. The RAM section is about right really, completely generalist statements, though it should have an LGA1851 section noting the higher speed that is good to go with it. Maybe should list what RAM module prices were in the past for comparison so that anyone reading can get a sense of when prices have come down to a level that they're willing to pay, or perhaps if they never do come down...

The 20' Fiber Optic cable let's me just run it from my desk to the closet and not lose single quality. >such a luxury pc case, cpu, gpu, monitor,Really? I thought all the shit I got was midrange? >i think you can definitely get some g skill instead at cl32 6400mhzNot right now I can't. That shit is way too expensive now. But, I watched a Hardware Unboxed video and the difference between 6000Mhz RAM and and 6400Mhz RAM on a CPU with X3D is less than 1% in performance. The X3D cache covers for a lot, I guess. No idea how it really works.
>>108562708>midrangeThere are eight 5000 series Nvidia GPU's and you bought the 3th most powerful one, don't bullshit a bullshitter.
>>108562728>3th3rd*I mean, people say the 5060 is trash. And the 5080 is way overpriced, as you only get like 10 more FPS for $500 more. But I've had people in these very threads tell me my CPU and GPU is midrange.
>>108562748>5080 is overpricedI mean, the PS5 just went up in price by $100, people including you clearly aren't thinking properly, shame.
>>108562748>>108562760>5080 is overpricedI bought one and though it isn't the best deal, its the best card for gaming hands down. The 80 line has always been the premium, its just not what the 90 cards have turned into.If I recall its the rtx 4500 chip.
>>108562818the geforce 8800 gtx released in 2006 at $599 and it was considered the best gpu you could get and back then, SLI existed, so you had people buying two of them.that's $1200 back in 2006don't tell me your 5080 is overpriced, you have been in this game as long as i have been making memes about pc building
/pcbg/ must be mostly east cost USA posters.Because these threads always die around 11pm.
ok so why does everybody say the AI bubble is popping now?
>>108563205wishcasting
>>108562923i had the midtier 8800gt. it was 200usd. imagine getting sota gpu today with less than a thousand.
>>108562544>Monitor 1 - MSI MAG 271QP OLED 27" 240Hz ($300)>Monitor 2 - ASUS ROG Strix OLED XG32UCDS 32" 4K 165Hz ($700)Why didn't you buy one 32" 4K OLED monitor with 480Hz 1080p dual mode? A second display doesn't need to be an OLED/miniLED (use your old monitor as the 2nd screen).
Real frens don’t let frens use mid displays (if the friend can afford the upgrade).
>>108563308Gpu's like that have been relegated to integration into the cpu. What we're expecting out of dedicated gpus has ventured into the absurd. A 5090 is something like 60% larger in die size than a 1080ti.
>>108563205Because they're retarded
i have a old rx480 that just keeps crashing with driver time outs, its been doing this for a few years now, tested on multiple computers, ran good for the first year i bought it new and subsequently shit the bed. now im looking to upgrade. are the newer amd card still having this issue or was this just that era of cards that have that issue? i told myself i was gonna go nvidia when it was time to upgrade but now i dont know. i must have submitted a billion crash reports but maybe the card was just cursed.
>>108563751sounds like a broken card, not a driver issue

>>108555776>>108555888(me)So I looked up a bunch of prices and they look something like this. What's the vibes? I'm feeling I'll just give up on Nvidia and get a 9070xt. I feel like the price difference from the 9070 is not big enough to not get the xt version. Also these are all second hand prices because first hand is too expensive.
>>108563205>ok so why does everybody say the AI bubble is popping now?All the fake money seems to be running out and the hype is dying down. Sora shut down to save money, Disney not giving them the billions they promised, new models being meh, datacenters not getting built, users jumping ship now that the prices are up... Don't expect cheap GPUs and RAM any time soon, but the times they are a changin'
>>108564024>Sora shut down to save moneyIt got shut down because there are programmers willing to pay $1000/day to generate code. Nobody is willing to pay anything like for creating video and there isn't enough compute for both.
DO NOT BUY OLED OR MINILEDHow come nobody warned me about this? Especially if you use your PC in dark room like a typical gremlin. The local dimming will rape your eyes. You could be staring at a pitch black screen then be blasted with pure white light a millisecond later. I can stare at my TN panel for 24 hours no problem but anything with local dimming makes me wanna cry. The extreme brightness and contrast shifts might look good but your eyes will be miserable because it will be constantly dilating like a tranny.
What TIM do you recommend? I want the best cooling!
>>108564073Can't you tone that down in general when it's dark in your room? I just have an IPS panel but that's what I do. Just turn down the brightness.
>>108564093it doesn't fix the problem because you don't have a "flat image" like LCD screens everything part of the screen has its own brightness levelso you turn brightness to 0 and the whites look tolerable but the dark pages are now unreadable. the contrast levels are just too wide.

>>108564073Could you please delete this message. You are making our job here difficult, the sales are bad as is.
>>108564208it does but if you don't have a sensitivity to it then good for you and enjoy
>>108564073People have different eyes and brains. Some are more sensitive to flashing than othersAlso I never use my first gen qdoled in a dimly lit room since the minimum brightness in HDR mode is way too bright for that
my ban expired so what did I miss? ram status? anything positive?
>>108564366dram will be solved by 2027, the chinks are building massive capacity because of the prices and the gooks, who think themselves are very smart, won't notice the trap they walked in and china will own 50% of the dram market by the end of 2027
I'm going to make the biggest upgrade I can in cooling right nowA portable AC unit.
>>108564380>the gooks, who think themselves are very smart>won't notice the trap they walked in and china will own 50% of the dram market by the end of 2027thast far in the futuregooks made what? half trillion? I dont think they care. they own the peak memory tech on the market and they simply forced the market into submission by acting like cartell thugs. I hate the gooks now, but I dont think they care one bit. tech bubble, thats what it is.
>>108564442Japan owns lenses and south Korea is dominating the memory market. There are other countries that could step in but they don't have the manufacturing down to make a dent in the market any time soon.

>>108564878We had our first "Warm" day in the UK (20c) this year, and I'm already fucking over it. Not gonna spend the summer baking away in a 40c room because I wanted to play a video game.
>>108564073You shouldn't be using HDR outside of games which is why mini LED are better because you can just turn off the local dimming to have a uniform image in SDR without the crazy brightness fluctuations that comes with HDR.
