If you think the salt about them abandoning RDNA3 is bad, when they announce RDNA5 is going to have AI upscaling and other features on hardware, which RNDA4 isn't going to be able to support... It's going to be a big tantrum.

The one on ebay is a best buy special that simply cuts down on hdmi ports from what I'm reading.
Short of putting the two side by side (which I might end up doing anyway for reasons) I don't think there's too much of a difference.
Part of me wants to buy a another AOC one as my second monitor is now sitting about 15mm above the AOC one with my vesa setup, but I'm also capable of machining out a plate that handles the correction.
Why the fuck is vesa not standard in its location?

So...
I did a quick bench in an area (just 2 minutes of running around) of Crimson Desert on my 5090

Is there such a thing as a very, very vertical tower? Something like those wall mounted PCs but on a desk?
I have a lot of vertical space (obviously, up to the ceiling) but my desk has limited horizontal space for reasons.
Unfortunately my build is full ATX, a big ass 9070xt and I currently have a 360 AIO and a power supply that I stupidly bought because it has ports on the side instead of the back (RM850x shift). So it can't be too thin I guess. My current case is fairly bulky as it is (Lancool 216)

Should I go for AIO CPU cooling or not? Should have spent "a few" more bucks and enjoy state of the art and lack of frustration...
That's what I'm thinking . This forum for months has been full of justly disappointed people (including myself). And today was the peak.

I wouldn't be here if I had 5070ti. I wouldn't read all this AMD-inflicted pain that y'all are translating into reddit posts.

Just note for myself from the future:

Don't rely on temporary emotions when deciding what product to buy. Nvidia is shitty but state of the art is state of the art. Of course they are ripping people off, who doesn't? But it's just money, you will be better off with a few dollars less but better mental heath. Just search "Redstone launch" or "FSR4 int8" and remind yourself what you want (what you are paying for) to avoid.

>What kind of speakers do you prefer?
I prefer bookshelf speakers with a dedicated sub. I run a 3.1 setup in my home theater and it's served me very well, everyone I've shown it off to is impressed.
>white noise when idle.
Before I went deep down the home theater rabbit hole, I had this issue with my Edifier setup. I was only able to remedy it with a coax cable. I nonstop emailed them about their noise floor and they ended up sending me another $300 set (s350db, they're charging $500 for them now) for free lol. fywiw, Edifier makes pretty decent PC speakers.

If you can, try to find some smaller desktop speakers like Edifiers or Kanto's (You can add a sub to these in the future, but they're quiet pricey and I've never owned them, but they're well regarded).

imo, It's not worth pursuing any of the more premium speaker options for your desktop (like expensive KEF LS50s (I use KEFs for my home theater, but I would never drop $1500 on powered speakers)). Having a sub changes everything, so go for an option with that if you can even if it's none of the examples I listed. Audiophile boomers can fuck off, home theater chads know what's best ;)

It's only going to get worse.
Just wait until the inflation from higher energy prices starts showing up in consumer goods 6 months from now, inflation takes some time to make it's way around the system
That will be combined with the ongoing hardware demand, which isn't slowing down at all.
Anyone waiting for prices to drop will be waiting until they're simply forced to buy the expensive stuff, which has likely gotten even more expensive.
Even in a best case scenario, at bare minimum we're going to be looking at the elevated prices for the next 2 years and even if they start falling around then, it'll take 3 years for the prices to be low again.
If you need to buy something then just buy it.

Noob/Goober Question

How much extra headroom would you guys get for a PSU?

Built a PC for the first time last year and with PCpartpicker I went with a 1000W PSU after it told me it would need around 750W.

I'm asking because I added additional Nvme's to the system and during a heavy gaming session, BF6 spiked the system causing a blackscreen shutdown. Im guessing with the added storage drives I lost headroom?

Would it be an overreaction/overkill if I went with a 1500W PSU as in image?

Nvidia literally cancelled the Rubin CPX which would use GDDR7 modules so the 60 series would be able to launch and instead moved to releasing ASIC's with HBM https://wccftech.com/nvidia-rubin-cpx-is-off-the-roadmap-but-may-return-with-feynman-in-2028/

Can get a 3080ti for less than £400 off ebay, worth it? The closest modern gpu to this price is the 8gb 5060ti.

not a goober question and i'm kind of in the same boat, I fell for the "1000w is plenty for a 5090" meme and before I undervolted my gpu I had a similar random shutdown, so I'm all for headroom.
1500W might be pushing it but for a brand new PSU that's expected to live through a few builds idk. if you expect to be near the top end of the market it starts to seem practically prudent when you consider the general trend of the high end outpacing efficiency gains and the greatly expanding CPU core counts we already know are coming from both amd/intel.

Yes, the 3080 was the last real 80 series card njudea released. The 3080ti basically matches the 5070 although the 50 series has better RT.
>>
>>108561972
i wouldnt bother with it unless you really need a gpu right now, Ampere is really old, you are better saving some money and getting a 5070 on november when the prices are better even if its 550 i know it sucks but buying budget cards its just not worth it, you will be missing on RR, pathtracing and tons of logevity and 3 year of warranty because you cheapen out on 150
>>
>>108561972
Either that or save another 100* for a 5070, which would be usually not too far off in raster but everything else would be a lot better + you're not gambling on a used gpu that was probably full throttle for like 3 years straight (mining)
60ti v 70 is too close in price to make a lot of sense for gayming, and the 70ti you're paying 50%+ for.
>>
>>108561972
>>108562174
I would stay away from the ti series cards for gaming. The reason people faun over the 5060ti and 5070ti is the vram that isn't even ideal for gaming. The 5060ti isn't going to do shit with 16gb of vram and 5070ti struggles to make use of it.

That being said when running programs that are resource dependant like ai and heavy video editing it works out. For every one gaming they're just going to be sitting there with unused vram and memory bandwidth.
>>
>>108561972
I had a regular 3080 for a few years. It was a good card and easily capable of 1440p and 4k gaming with some DLSS. The biggest problem was the power usage and resulting heat. 30 series cards were inefficient as fuck out of the box and you can shave 80-100w off with a light undervolt. In the end I decided to replace it with a 50 series card because I like to have a quiet and cool system.
>>
>>108560090
Most everything not CPU and GPU could use a refresh. But the problem is that with modern parts you're really looking for negatives rather than positives because the average has reached near universal okayness. So instead of recommending cases, coolers, storage, monitors and such, it really could be condensed down to recommendations against anything with known issues. Everything else should be up to individual preferences at this point. The RAM section is about right really, completely generalist statements, though it should have an LGA1851 section noting the higher speed that is good to go with it. Maybe should list what RAM module prices were in the past for comparison so that anyone reading can get a sense of when prices have come down to a level that they're willing to pay, or perhaps if they never do come down...

Okay, my Exodia build is finally done.

This all started months ago as "buying cheap RAM because I found 32GB of DDR5 for $100, but then realizing my CPU doesn't support DDR5, so I built a whole new PC."

PC:
GPU - ASUS Prime 5070Ti OC 16BG ($750)
CPU - Ryzen 7 9850X3D ($400)
(Thermal Grizzly KryoSheet ($24) I'm too lazy to do thermal paste)
RAM - Kingston FURY Beast 32GB DDR5 CL36 ($100)
SSD - WD_BLACK SN8100 4TB ($450)
MoBo - MSI MAG B850 Tomahawk MAX ($180)
PSU - be quiet! Pure Power 13 M 850W ($90)
AIO - be quiet! Pure Loop 3 280mm ($85)
Case - Fractal Design Meshify 3 Black Solid ($120)

Other Stuff:
Monitor 1 - MSI MAG 271QP OLED 27" 240Hz ($300)
Monitor 2 - ASUS ROG Strix OLED XG32UCDS 32" 4K 165Hz ($700)
Arm - Ergotron LX Pro ($150)
Keyboard - Keychron K2 HE ($70)
Mouse - G502 X LIGHTSPEED ($85)
Pad - ATTACK SHARK CM02 ($14)
Display Cable - RUIPRO 8K Fiber Optical HDMI 20' ($60)

How'd I do for my first from-scratch PC build?
Did I miss anything? Am I retarded for spending this much just to upgrade my RAM?

skip the kyrosheet and just use thermal paste, unlesss you're overclocking, using a threadripper cpu, or using water cooling you don't need that shit

everything else, idk, pretty beastly PC to be honest.

>buying a display cable

I know for a fact that the asus rog oled will come with a bag containing a DP, HDMI and usb-c cable, you can use one of them with the MSI display, I expect the MSI display will also come with its own display cables anyway.

My advice? Don't buy the KryoSheet (designed for extreme overclocking) and get a better mousemat/mouse or something.

Also I really do not agree with buying such a luxury pc case, cpu, gpu, monitor,

but then buying kingston ram, i think you can definitely get some g skill instead at cl32 6400mhz
>>
>>108562590
>skip the kyrosheet and just use thermal paste,
My PC is all put together already. I have never put on thermal paste before, and I don't want to learn or fuck it up. The sheet is just "put it on" and you're done, so I went with that.

That said, I did overclock / undervolt everything on the PC.
The CPU gets to 70C under 100% load, and maxes out at 5.65Mhz.
The GPU is overclocked / undervolted as well. Hits 50C at 100% load.
I want this PC to last a while, so the low temps it runs at, the better.

>I know for a fact that the asus rog oled will come with a bag containing a DP
You're right, it did. But I keep my PC in a closet so I don't have to listen to the fans. The 20' Fiber Optic cable let's me just run it from my desk to the closet and not lose single quality.

>such a luxury pc case, cpu, gpu, monitor,
Really? I thought all the shit I got was midrange?

>i think you can definitely get some g skill instead at cl32 6400mhz
Not right now I can't. That shit is way too expensive now.
But, I watched a Hardware Unboxed video and the difference between 6000Mhz RAM and and 6400Mhz RAM on a CPU with X3D is less than 1% in performance. The X3D cache covers for a lot, I guess. No idea how it really works.

DO NOT BUY OLED OR MINILED

How come nobody warned me about this? Especially if you use your PC in dark room like a typical gremlin.

The local dimming will rape your eyes. You could be staring at a pitch black screen then be blasted with pure white light a millisecond later. I can stare at my TN panel for 24 hours no problem but anything with local dimming makes me wanna cry. The extreme brightness and contrast shifts might look good but your eyes will be miserable because it will be constantly dilating like a tranny.
>>
What TIM do you recommend? I want the best cooling!
>>
>>108564073
Can't you tone that down in general when it's dark in your room? I just have an IPS panel but that's what I do. Just turn down the brightness.
>>
>>108564093
it doesn't fix the problem because you don't have a "flat image" like LCD screens everything part of the screen has its own brightness level

so you turn brightness to 0 and the whites look tolerable but the dark pages are now unreadable. the contrast levels are just too wide.

You need a monitor with at least DisplayPort 1.4 or HDMI 2.1 to run high refresh rate 1440p @ 10-bit (up to native 240 Hz).
There are no 4K IPS gaming monitors with DisplayPort 2.1 required for high refresh rate 10-bit without DSC (at least 33 Gbps bandwidth needed @ 120 Hz).
You need to get a newer IPS with miniLED backlights or OLED for higher display bandwidth.
