i understand that the situation has improved dramatically since proton became a thing, but the philosophy of the whole idea just seems wrong. steam is objectively malware and even if you think it isn't, i don't see why you'd want to use linux when win10/11 LTSC exist.

personally i gave up a while ago and shelled out $100 for an xbox 360 with some games. it's always offline, can be modded easily, and allows me to compartmentalize gaming bullshit to one box. in fact, i don't think any game that can't be played/emulated on a 360 is worth playing at all.

True, what's the state of PS5 hacking?
If you have early version of the console can you just download ISO and play any game or what?
>>
I refuse to use a Microsoft product unless I'm getting paid for it
it's really as simple as that
I have AMD hardware and all games I'm interested in playing work flawlessly on Linux but even if they didn't, I'd take a serious performance hit or even stop gaming altogether than use Microsoft Windows

youre absolutely right, gaymes are dependent on proprietary code, alien stuff on your machine not guaranteed to work.
i'd rather try install batocera if i was a gaymin.

Better graphics drivers. You can use the advancements valve funded for free without registering an account or downloading their program.

i game on linux because i dont have enough space to dualboot windows

Because Win11 is objectively malware and adware.

Would you rather have just an app inside a FOSS OS be proprietary or have the entire OS be proprietary?

>i don't see why you'd want to use linux when win10/11 LTSC exist.
Because Win10/11 are pure shit. Anyway, if you want to play game, don't use a computer, use a GameCube or PS2.

Games are closed source software by design so meh.

you'd fit right in with the linux crowd

Because a full aero themed Win11 ltsc eats 4-5GB RAM idle without browser and Steam running in bg. Also Linux is somewhat better for gaming because you can sandbox drms like EAC. You don't really need Steam for gaming btw.
>>
>>108552874
I don't use Linux but the same arguments apply. There are plenty of games you can play without Steam. I just like having fun when I have nothing better to do.

Good for you, but there's always gems and lots of stinkers regardless of generation.

Windows 10 doesn't shut down when it auto updates at night effectively waking me up.
Windows 10 fucks up the clock every reboot for
some reason.
Apps like oneDrive that I have disabled on startup, reenable themselves.
Minor windows ecosystem fuckery that pisses me off like forcing you to use accounts on win11 installs and being really invasive on win10 installations.
Past windows updates have been tragic.
Games run better than on windows a lot of the time.
Windows 11 is even worse anti-consumer pajeetware.

I know exactly what you mean anon, I would never install that shit on my comfy Linux machine, this board and Linux in general is being invaded by retarded gaymers with no taste which want to turn Linux into Windows gayming with all the associated cancer, makes me feel like picture related.
I simply have a Win 10 LTCS partition that I use only for gayming, it's basically like a gayme console for me.

>why even game on linux?
same reason someone plays a game on windows; because they want to play the game
>i don't see why you'd want to use linux when win10/11 LTSC exist.
i enjoy using linux more than windows, it's not that complicated

that's good for you, but unless you're suggesting an xbox 360 is an alternative to linux i don't know what anyone is supposed to get from this statement

because it works better for general use, too. the jannies should just start banning for these low-effort os war threads, they never go anywhere or lead to any interesting discussion

For starters I've heard you might get better performance for some games, which I can believe, but haven't tested it and don't plan to. This is of course assuming you don't run into compatibility issues

>steam is objectively malware
I have no horse in this race, but there is still a massive difference between running a proprietary kernel + proprietary userland vs. running one proprietary program on a kernel you trust
You can track the runtime behavior of Steam and its games as you know your way around Linux, and even run it on a container I guess, but then again I doubt most of the people running Steam games on their machines really care about all that, they likely either just want the supposed performance boost, don't feel like dual-booting or have riced machines they enjoy using and also wish to launch games from them

>it's always offline, can be modded easily, and allows me to compartmentalize gaming bullshit to one box
Funnily enough you can always run an airgapped or "dummy" computer with some proprietary shit running on it which amounts to the same thing you've done with an Xbox so at this stage I've sort of lost track of what point you're trying to make

pre 2005 games just werk 99% of the time without me having to install shit like dgvoodoo2
