>8k still hasnt taken off
why did it fail
>>
>>108555267
I don't know, consumer market is currently in recesssion, people are comfortable with even 1080p, there is no reason to go to 8k Maybe it was actually bad marketing to simply double the digit, and americans aren't as stupid as they are thought to be?

I've seen 4k - it looks like shit to me . I prefer 240hz 1080 any fucking day
>>
I'm still on 1920x1080
>>
>>108555267
How much content is available in 8k?
>>
>>108555267
The future of video display technology is AR glasses, not higher resolutions on flat screens
>>
>>108555267
Dimishing returns. If my RTX5070 can only hit 144 HZ on new games (with fake frames enabled) at 1440p, there's not a chance in hell I'm going for 4k, let alone 8
>>
>>108555267
4k has only become a realistic resolution standard in the past few years, 8k has a long way to go
>>

Because they're all 16:19 and 16:19 SUCKS!
>>
>>108555528
Streaming services like Netflix can't reverb stream 4K Dolby Vision
>>
>>108555267
you either need a 200" screen 2meters from your face, or a 27" screen 10" from your face for it to have any benefit.

both are extremely uncomfortable at those close distances. literally no use case.

>>
>>108555267
I can't buy a GPU why would I want 8K ? I don't even use 4K on my 2080s. I'm hard stuck 1080
>>
>>108555267
The human eye can't see beyond 480i 30fps
>>
Because it's a waste
That pixel density is too high to take advantage of
When it comes to films, they're consumed at a viewing distance that doesn't even make sense for 4k
When it comes to vidya, obviously nothing can run it and you would have to sit so close to your monitor that the angular size of it would have to be 127 degrees horizontally
For office shit or video editing? Maybe but it's often better to just get a second monitor
>>
Because Moore's law died around 2016 and technology has stilted since then
>>
>>108555267
Because, unlike Intel and AMD, Nvidia hasn't been able to display at 8K or 16K with 60FPS without black square artifacts infecting the entire display, so they haven't shilled a gorillion dollars into convincing (You) that 8k is a necessity.
>>
>>108555267
use case for streaming low bitrate 8K media or low framerate gaming?
>>
>>108555473
>TFW AMD has been able to do 16K since RDNA3

>>108555560
I miss 4:3 CRT displays with 12-bit true color.

>>108556045
I would say 2019-2020, but still, yeah we've hit the limit on silicon and companies are trying every trick in the book, from 3D V-Cache to E-cores, to squeeze every last frame out until the industry is forced to switch to gallium alloy or glass.
>>
>>108555267
because virtually zero content is 8K and even if 8K content existed, it would have virtually no practical benefit over 4K. Stop being a fucking retarded faggot.
>>
I even think 4k is pointless. 1440p is optimal.
>>
>>108555267
the human eye can't see more than 4k so 8k is useless
>>
>>108555267
Those ancient 55" 8K monitors were as close to usable as it got. I'm still bummed I didn't grab a couple during the EOL fire sale.
>>
>>108555267
Lack of content, no streaming service can provide actual 4K quality, internet speeds are shit and can't handle that throughput. The selection of physical media in 4K is downright pathetic compared to even regular 1080p bluray and that delivery method is dying anyway. And even with the right TV, the right content, the advantages over actual 4k are marginal. I'm sure it will eventually happen but not right now.
>>
>>108555267
Even 4K is overkill for the bitrates streaming services use. 4K is even overkill for gaming since you can't hit 240fps with raytracing with today's GPUs. 8K is a meme

because you have to be insane to use it
the ppi is so high that you need to have the screen take up the entire field of vision to take advantage of it
>>
>>108555267
Ive been gaming at 4k since 2020 and everyone in this thread is part of the jewish cabal that hates high bandwidth high fidelity video

no no please stop thinking about 8k, our servers at the NSA cant hold all that data. us spying on you is more important!!!

seriously I also use a 1366 laptop sometimes, its good enough. so what even is the usecase for any other resolution?

idk why people prefer having low quality tech, aliasing, less fidelity, ect. it has to be fake engagement
>>
>>108556439
This. Until 4k locked max settings at 60fps or higher at 30w can be done everything is cope. Framegen, upscaling etc. is just lazy cheating.
>>
you basically need an imax theater equivalent field of vision to get any appreciable difference with 8k compared to 4k
also next to no content

Because AV2 is still being developed you tard. 8K practically speaking can't be economically stored/transmitted yet.

VVC would have been the thing for 8K but they want 6 million in royalties which makes it dead on arrival.
>>
I'm fine with high quality 720p.

>>108555308
Literally none. We still have major motion pictures mastered in 2K.
>>
in most cases you don't even need 4k, the only reason to even download/use 4k is because they've locked hdr behind it
>>
>>108556100
>to squeeze every last frame out until the industry is forced to switch to gallium alloy or glass.
Is it really that simpler than fucking teach code monkeys how to code?
