Whatever happened to just using what works best for you

It's not 2012 anymore.

gaming has been great since i switched, no i don't exclusively play games from 1999. takes some tinkering with some titles but most of the time there is very little setup. also got pre-AI bloat ps installed, photoshop 2021. it's a tiny bit slower than usual from time to time so that may annoy power users but other than that it works flawlessly.
>>
>>108564314
Linux is mostly good at gayming
>>108564335
There's a lot of tools related to production besides Photoshop that have no alternative worth a shit. Clip Studio Paint has essentially nothing. Darktable is nowhere as intuitive as Lightroom. Some people do use these.

I don't know chief, games new and old run fine on my setup.
>>
>>108564314
>the 2 things linux is notoriously bad at
pre-2017, sure gaming was a struggle.
the games themselves run the same or better on linux than windows at this point due to all the extra bloatware that comes with window$.
the only hurdle is anti-cheat which isn't a linux problem but the anti-cheat willing to support linux.
Easy Anti-Cheat has a check box on the dev's end to enable Linux.
kernel level (lmaooooo) anti-cheats like Riot Games' Vanguard are not going to be supported, nor should you want this on your machine no matter what OS you use.

The year of the linux desktop was a mistake.
>>
>promoting linux needs to stop
On the one hand, we've seen in our lifetimes what happens if good things aren't gatekept, but are Linux developers motivated enough to enshitify Linux based on a new wave of normie critique? While software is still getting regular updates, for the most part things feel pretty stagnant.

well i can't speak on that and you're probably right. i'm just saying the one that most people have a gripe with, and still think can't be used on linux, photoshop, can definitely be used on it.

why linux getting all this attention lately? trans people going to win, but then again, bill pederast gaytes, master of vaccinations already won.
its a loss loss situation.
>>
>>108564448
>trans people going to win
that's gonna happen in tech until a solar flare sends us back to the dark ages, may as well use the OS that doesn't put troon flags on your taskbar

>be literal who
>have tech issues because the tools you use are gimped thanks to of decades of market manipulation
>need tech support because everything you use is, as a direct result, cucked and broken by design
>have no friends who are tech literate enough to help
>don't wanna ask SO
>make 12 minute youtube video about it
I am not going to watch this. These people need tec support, not an audience. I am so glad I am not recommended anything on youtube and that I host my own invidious instance to not deal with this nonsense.

reminder that you don't actually want it to be the year of the linux desktop
normalfags ruin everything they touch
look what happened to videogames and anime

I installed Arch today btw. It was easy as fuck why does everyone have such a hardon for it?
>>
Yeah. Promote BSD instead

Answered your own question.

Now try gentoo for an actual challenge and a time waster, or BSD from source (any flavor)
>>
>>108564622
I use Arch specifically because it doesn't waste my time. I can also tell you're larping hard if you're conflating every BSD "flavor".
>>
>>108564613
No need to promote it, macOS is already widely popular among artists.

Sure I'm larping. Nothing in my post suggested me to be larping. Stop badgering me.

macos is not bsd, although it is a fork of bsd 4.4
>>
>>108564646
>the BSD fork with the largest market share
>doesn't count because BSD people don't want it to count
Not a particularly compelling reason. If they had wanted to have more control over what a BSD can be maybe they should have published it under a different license.
>>
>>108564448
Windows pushed too hard with 11, it's crossed a another invisible line of consumer abuse provoking people to seek alternatives. And Mac is expensive.
>>
>>108564434
even if they do, who cares
the normies will use slopOS, you'll use whatever you already use or switch to the alternative that'll always exist
I don't think anything will change though, it's still the same people developing OSS
this is an influx of slop people, not programmers who will get involved in developing the ecosystem
>>
>>108564622
>Now try gentoo for an actual challenge and a time waster
not really a challenge but a time waster? absolutely, in the most literal sense
>>
>>108564335

you should
>>
>>108564314
it's doable with whatever vm you like
no need to reinvent the wheel imo but w/e
>>
literally the only issue that didn't have an easy way of dealing with it was VSTs i bought on windows w/ their crazy ilok drm shit
apparently it's possible to get working but it's fragile and I haven't bothered
0 issues with anything else

What??? Linux is so easy to use my grandma can do it. You don’t need a command line. I swear, people are just so dumb these days that they’re too afraid to make the switch. What’s the matter? Afraid of the command line? IQ too low to use Linux? I use linux every day, and every single piece of software that I use on linux is available on linux.

Not sure if it’s just that I have a pretty large IQ, but I cannot stand Windows updates occurring all the time once a month so I update my linux distro every couple of hours.

If games dont’ play on linux, don’t play those games? Same goes for whatever “work” you do on your winshitbox. Find a job that respects your freedoms and doesn’t make you do this so called “work” on a computer.

YouTube keeps pushing that video into my feed, I haven’t bothered watching it. The last time I watched one of these videos it was some Estonian retard (also known as an “Estonian”) and he fucked up every possible thing he could setting up fedora and then said it was the OS that did it instead of going “hm maybe I should have RTFM”. Those videos are also annoying as shit because it always invariably involves some obscure piece of specialty hardware that either doesn’t have drivers because 100 people use it or the drivers are right fucking there on GitHub but the retard simply doesn’t want to just google “how to fixed my competter???”.

At this point I’m not sure if it’s because windows users are so fucking stupid they can’t just describe their issue or what. The fact LTT of all people is apparently doing well with Linux is really funny though.
