FAQ:
>How do I activate Windows?
HWID2 generates and registers a permanent legitimate license on MS's activation servers
github.com/massgravel/Microsoft-Activation-Scripts
Usage: paste this into Powershell, run.

irm https://get.activated.win | iex

>and Office?
Same link, select Ohook option
You can also use Office.com if your needs are very minimal
or try OnlyOffice/LibreOffice and set it to save in MSOffice file formats

>What version should I install?
>W10 Enterprise IoT LTSC 2021
Binary identical to Enterprise except no MS Store or apps
Preinstalled with: Edge & Win32 system apps
10 years support on "IoT LTSC", 5 for "LTSC"
Manual version upgrades

>W11 Enterprise IoT LTSC 2024
Same as W10 version except:
UI written in React Native aka JavaScript including: Start, Taskbar and Explorer that lags even on i9s
Use only if you fell for the 12th+ gen Intel meme and need the new CPU scheduler
Wait for IoT LTSC 2027 if you can

>Installing apps on LTSC
Use WinGet/Scoop or install MS Store in CMD with: wsreset -i

>W11 Home/Pro/Education/Enterprise/Enterprise IoT
Preinstalled with: Edge, Win32 system apps, MS Store, OneDrive, Weather, Movies, Music, Candy Crush, etc
Auto-reinstalls apps on feature updates
1.5-3 years support

Why didn't 24H2 get that Explorer preloading feature?

I'm thinking of switching back to Windows from Linux. I tried Linux Mint and Arch for almost a year and it's just not for me, while i like some stuff some things just don't work (like Nvidia drivers). The problem is that my hard drives are formatted as ext4, are they just fucked? Is there anyway to "convert" them to NTFS without losing anything? Or some ext4 driver for Windows?
>>
>>108572878
>ext4 driver for windows
there might be a third party one but definitely nothing first party

>convert
i'm not aware of a way to convert from ext4 to ntfs. you can set a drive up as ntfs and move stuff over to it though if you have the room.

>set a drive as ntfs and move stuff over
I already did that for Linux with ext4, but now they're both full and I can't just keep buying drives whenever I want to switch.
Does anybody have any experience with third party ext4 drivers?

I've just learned about the notepad++ autoupdater malware fiasco (which is kinda old news by now), but fortunately I haven't updated since 2022.
Considering I'm fine with the notepad++ as is, for the sake of security should I update to the newest version now (and never again in the foreseeable future) or should I keep using the old version?
>>
>>108573532
The only thing that was effected was the autoupdater itself. You can update it directly from their website and it would be fine.
>>
>>108573532
it was targeted malware that was deployed only for a limited amount of time to intended targets. like with most apts, it deliberately avoided deployment to non-targets. so you are probably fine. and presumably they've patched the hole and are a bit more properly paranoid now.

supply chain attacks can hit anything. if you're ever actually worried, just start verifying hashes manually.

Great!
should i get one of the more limited versions for a low spec computer? its a quad core from 2008 with 2GB DDR2 ram, i plan to expand to 4GB DDR2 though
Win7 home basic seems to have less requirements according to copilotl
>>
>>108575307
i think you can get the same effect by just disabling aero.

>we will be removing unnecessary copilot entry points from notepad & paint you guys!
>jk we're going back to our pre-24H2 ways of how we handled AI in some of our apps aka just removing the copilot branding and replacing it with something generic

>>108572224
and on education, and on any edition with a few changes
>>
>>108572224
you can do this very easily on every edition except home and even on home you can use policyplus or just use registry tweaks

isnt it basically this but on by default?
>>
>>108578390
No? It pins Explorer in memory when you boot into Windows so cold starts are faster.
>>
it didnt help much tho. the ribbon whatever still takes multiple frames to render, when you right click on the desktop it still creates a new process to handle the menu (old version). idk what they think they did, but it didnt work.
i never had trouble with it being slow to start, its slow overall all the time.
>>
>>108578884
>>108578902
my windows boots so fast the monitor is still changing display modes while im already on the desktop. its been like this since i did the native nvme tweak.
>>
>>108578917
im p sure we were talking about opening a new explorer window specifically.
>>
>>108578945
ive never had any "explorer lag" to speak of. this sounds like a 1998 issue not a 2026 issue.
>>
>>108578955
we would need to unpack (sic) what we were talking about before we could go further.

The animation is shit even if it opens fast. If you don't notice this then you're just not built for it.
