>>108575176> SeagateInto the trashI'd only use them in RAID 5/6
>>108576042Why RAID 5/6? I plan on using 8 of them for jellyfin server and the other two for backup. Is this a good idea?

>>108576062I mean, it was a random idea. But with RAID, if one drive fails, you don't lose data. I was suggesting type 5/6 because you have a lot of drives which is the main requirement for this kind of configuration.
>>108576159It's just a jellyfin server, tho. why not a mergerfs with xfs or btrfs?

Hard drive prices are going up with no end in sight. I'm getting what I can right now before it gets outrageous. Of t isn't already. These are $11.30 per TB for 3TB (2.7TiB). I got 10. Wtf not???

Anti Seagate propagandists. I never had and issues with Seagate.
>>108578623its literally superior thoughbeit
i've had more WD drives die than Seagate.

>>108575176>seagatein to the trash it goes.if those are used drives get seatools and see how many hours are on them.
>>108575176Run badblocks on them.It will take a while, but you can run them simultaneously on a spare machine. Last time I needed to test a bunch of drives, I used an old laptop with a USB 2x SATA bay. Just be sure to keep track of which drive is which. Also:Use in RAID6 (or RAIDZ2 with ZFS).Check 'em with SMART or SeaTools.
>>10857517610 3tb drives is still more than what a lot of people have.
Niggers are jealous in this thread.
>>108586197they clear those. it's not hard.
>>108578733After a lifetime of using Seagate I wanted to try the competition due to people joking. I got a Samsung drive and it died within a few months. Went back to Seagate and still have had 0 issues despite running my arrays 24/7, raping them constantly, and in some instances having drives bounce down the stairs after I dropped them.I think its time this multi-decade old meme be put to rest. I don't know if it was ever anything beyond competition FUD.
>>108586467it's always been bullshit. specific models are unreliable, not brands. it's always been that way.
>>108586467One retarded faggot one time got a few Seagates that weren't good, then decided to spread a faggot meme. Always the case. I never had Abby issues with Seagate but always had WD drives die on me. Literally brand new 16TB drives, too.
>>108576033>TiBI tib your mom, faggot.
>>108586467>>108586483The problem with Seagate is they have a higher proportion of bad models and some of those models are worse than the worst from WD/HGST.My perspective is from the enterprise sphere but from all the reading I've done speaks to WD/HGST having the occasional problems like outgassing in 8TB He HDDs fixed with cooling changes/firmware and "quality" problems with 10TB but was worked around. On the Seagate side you had 8TB drives that were extremely terrible although I couldn't find a root cause.12TB Seagates however had 3 separate issues. Early drive platters where contaminated, they suffered from head wear and the filter media was depositing inside the drive. The good news is that everything since has been good from either. Most problems with 20TB+ drives are just big drive problems rather than any particular make
So I connected 10 of these to my HBA controller and my OS is taking really long to boot. Lots and lots of noise. clickety clackety whir and whine. Anybody know what's going on? MX Linux. I'm trying to see if I can initialize them all and set up a Snapraid+ mergerfs as recommended.
Locked in LLF mode for 24 hours. Wtf
