I've been using KDE for approximately 6-7 years, but I must admit that its design guidelines aren't very good.
i dont see any problem typical gemini slop generator subhuman
So much wasted vertical space. LXQt file picker gives 17% more space in the files view for the same sized window, that makes a real difference. The main thing is the "Name" and "File type" inputs being too wide - the LXQt file picker places the dialog buttons to the right of the inputs instead of below.

No shit, Plasma devs are terrible at UX. They genuinely do not know what padding is, they just put random values in and whatever goes
>>108576432how would you do it

>>108581743uh... did you look at OP's image retard? can you read the filenames?
KDE devs are truly retarded, why don't they just make every thumbnail the same size? now you have this weird shit space there.
>this threadmaximum autism
>>108583928>why don't they just make every thumbnail the same size? They do, thumbnails take exactly 100% of the vertical and/or horizontal space while retaining aspect ratio.
>>108583928In Dolphin the thumbnails (or icons) are aligned to the bottom.
What I hate about kde file picker is that they wanted for it to be "simpler" than dolphin, and. because of that, ended being way slower in folders with a lot of media files.
>>108584041That makes more sense
Dunno why you felt the need to bitch about it on /g/ instead of fixing it yourself or asking the KDE devs about it. If you give them a convincing argument I'm sure they'd take your input into consideration. And if not then KDE isn't for you and you can use another DE.
>>108583988why don't they make every thumbnail the same size? this just looks messy because the thumbnail takes the ratio of the original image, this is stupid when every thumbnail has a different size, look at the space between the text and the thumbnail
>>108576432>6-7 yearsheh
>>108584243Thumbnails of images with different aspect ratios are never going to be the same size. They’ll fill 100% of either the vertical or horizontal space, whichever dimension reaches the limit first. What you’re probably asking is why the thumbnails align to the top instead of the bottom. And that, I concede, would make more sense and it's how it's done on most file managers, dolphin included.
>>108584297>What you’re probably asking is why the thumbnails align to the top instead of the bottom.>And that, I concede, would make more sense and it's how it's done on most file managers, dolphin included.Okay yes, you're right, this is it, just checked here and the thumbnails are aligned to the center I think
>>108584382In dolphin, and iirc, windows explorer the thumbnails are at the bottom, (pic is dolphin).kde filepicker, for some reason, align them at the top, but it's not the only weird design decision on the file picker, I can live with visual weirdness, but blocking the ui while listing directories is something else...I'm about to test a file picker project someone posted some time ago, I'll write back if it's somewhat good. From the screenshots I like how it has almost no padding between files, yet I see the thumbnails and file names, both, are aligned to the top instead of bottom. Not that I care, I just want to see if it list directories asynchronously or not.Link: https://github.com/dvhar/pikeruI'll right back after testing it.
