How come we don't have laptops, phones, or even desktop microgenerators powered by tiny ICE engines? Imagine being able to run your laptop for weeks or months just with one fill up of gasoline. Or having a tiny backup generator that can power your entire desktop setup for an entire day with a soda can worth of fuel.

Because that clickbait article is using theoretical perfect efficiency. In reality you only get about 10% of usable energy as electricity, the rest is wasted as heat because gas engines suck ass at low power output and unless you're fine with 3rd degree burns (ie like using a fanless fagbook) then you're gonna need cooling.

This is all ignoring you becoming poisoned by CO2 lol

because I can generate a million times more electricity for the same amount of fuel by making a much bigger generator

CO2 is actually one of the least toxic byproducts of burning gasoline, I'd be much more worried about the nitrogen compound or monoxide, but at that scale, it would probably not be a real problem

I think the real problems of these small motors is that they have no torque, so their best use is to charge an accumulator to actually do something useful with their energy, but yeah efficiency is probably very bad

>charging an ordinary battery to deliver one unit of energy involves putting 2000 units into it
even with the lead acid batteries of 2003, this is false, it's more like 2 units

Where's my pull start thinkpad?
