>buy device
>spend zero time learning how to use it beyond the very basic functions

Why are some people like this?

When I get a new thing I always spend time exploring all the menus, options and functions, and skim the manual. Are some people just not interested?
>>
Exhaustive exploration is for the young. As you get older you're just supposed to lean on accumulated knowledge but these retards keep switching everything up every now and then

Why would I spend too much time learning how a specific device, or software, works if it's going to be dead in 3 years time? Unless we're talking basic like your computer or phone
Technology has become so impersonal no matter what, and a bunch of UX designers are hired to dumb it down for peepee poopoo users anyways

However I agree I'm always shocked when I see people throw 1500 bucks on a phone and not even doing anything custom - just stock settings and here we go taking pics of everything for instagram

This.
I have my own way of succeeding in life.
I don't need to fiddle with a telephone, rolodex, slide ruler or calculator more than I already need to.

I've noticed this with apple users in particular. My mom can barely use her 1000$ smartphone

Yeah I actually learned ADB and then proceeded to google what every single service on my phone was and what it did. Took around 3 days or so to map them all out and then realize around 70% of it is bloatware garbage your phone will be better off without.

I barely even use a phone too, I absolutely despise the technology but now I'm fully able to root/custom rom and manually asses the state of the software down to every last publicly visible service. Was it a total waste of time? Pretty much but if you actually use your phone it's worth it because the performance increases and battery life improvement are astounding.

I find myself just skipping most new tech now though, in fact my life and mood noticeably improve the lower tech I go and the more time I spend outside away from civilization. Actually now that I stop and think, I fucking hate technology. This is my last post for the year, see you all when they've changed the captcha 6 more times into more retarded shit

The dopamine hit comes from buying the product, not using it, otherwise it'd be utterly pointless to buy anything made after 2021.
>>
lack of innate curiosity
>>
When I was a kid, I asked this a lot and was always told "I don't have time for that", "I don't even know where to start doing that", "you have lots of time you're a kid of course it's easy for you" and other dumb shit, and yes they all spent their free time watching tv

Seems like an almost subhuman trait

I do the same unless a function is really useful to me.
At least 90% of them aren't.
>>
The first thing I do before buying a device is to look for community plugins, custom firmware, access to developer settings, 3D files made to improve the experience, etc.

>Beyond it's basic functions
What this actually tells you is that the "basic functions" are all anyone really desires from the "devices" they purchase.
They add other functions to charge more money.
We fucked up letting them turn these advanced communication devices into shitty cameras with a phone attached to them.
It was supposed to be a pocket computer with the ability to communicate via internet.
Any of is that know better, want a pocket sized computer with an actual OS.
Not some gay ass iToy GUI camera with a "phone" attached to it.
>>
it's really baffling how normies go into a panic if a button changes position or size in their computer's operating system but they change cars every 5-10yrs and the controls are almost entirely different except for the steering wheel and pedals.
>>
because not everyone is autistic. it makes calls and sends texts. thats what 98% of people do with it.

these are the same people who don't touch the infotainment controls beyond the defaults
