Better than Gentoo.

their ports tree is still being updated.

source mage
crux

long live source based distros!
>>
>>108581707
I used to compile Librewolf from source. That was enough to tell me I never want to run a build everything from source based distro.

I was thinking about it and crux the other day. I'm glad they're still alive.
I wonder onder how the guy who used to post about sourcemage a decade ago is doing.
>>
>>108581932
Yeah i prefer some jeet preparing my binary slop instead too.

we got too cocky magebros...
>>
>>108582165
Let me guess, you "need" more?
>>

Respect for still being alive after all these years, honestly
>>
>Source Mage
Maybe they don't care, but their project could do with a better name imo.
Slackware is short for Slackware Linux.
Gentoo is short for Gentoo Linux.
Arch is short for Arch Linux.
Source Mage is... what? A magazine title? A version control system? I get that maybe they wanted "GNU/Linux" instead of just "Linux", and that "Source Mage GNU/Linux" is too wordy, but had they at least rolled with "Source Mage OS" instead of just "Source Mage", for example, I may have known about it sooner. Not a suggestion. Just saying.

Obviously I'm just being a bikeshedding asshole, and this isn't something worth arguing about, but I wouldn't have even bothered checking if "Source Mage" was an operating system let alone a Linux distro today, if OP hadn't mentioned it next to Gentoo. This isn't a diss. It's just a shame, because it's nice that it exists.

Short for Source Mage Linux

Judging by their docs and their purist mindset, I can only assume they'd say you're wrong and insist it's "Source Mage GNU/Linux" (SMGL), not "Source Mage Linux", and they're stuck with "Source Mage" to keep it short. My point is that "Source Mage GNU/Linux" and "Source Mage" are both arguably suboptimal brandings for an OS for their respective reasons. Doesn't matter though. If they don't care, it's all good.
>>
>>108583851
Actually yeah you're right. It's even in the OP pic actually.
My point is that nobody ever says "Gentoo Linux", but if you are really confused about what a given name is and want the full name then Source Mage GNU/Linux covers that.
>>
>>108583851
But Source Mage is so good it's practically magic!
>>
>>108583851
source comes from sorcery
mage is magic

Look at the picture again
