Why are these M4 minis selling out? What's going on exactly? Are they actually good computers or am I getting memed?

OpenClaw AI assistant memes

If you have no need for the laptop form factor you get the M series chip for a comparatively low price
The m series chips are revolutionary and the best arm computers out there. If you want a strong mini pc there it is
>>
Other than openclaw fags it's unironically the best <$1000 desktop PC you can get bar none as long as you don't want to do gaymen
>>
>>108583182
i have a 24 gb m4 mac mini that i just use as my daily driver? can i do something with it or do i need more ram?
>>
>>108583172
A lot of power in such a tiny box thanks to the M4 chip.
>>
>>108583330
Using Steam through Crossover, it plays every game I care about. I don't play AAA singleplayer games, nor multiplayer games with anticheat spyware.
>>
The dynamic duo.
>>
>>108583330
Even if you want gaymen it plays retro perfectly which is all I care about
>>108583436
Lol not really. Get one or the other. Get a macbook if you dont have a stationary setup and you need to take a screen, keyboard etc with you. Else get the mini
>>
>>108583322
Are you saying they don’t… cost an ARM and a leg?

It's amazing computer for anything, except hardcore gaming, because the base m4 doesn't have a lot of GPU cores.

Why do you idiots pay $80 to use wine?

>gay men PC for games only
>m4 mini for everything else
would you recommend this (given you already have the gaming PC because current prices are stupid)?
>>
>>108584036
Precisely. I've heard that Asahi is usable on M1 and M2. So, maybe in several years M4 will be supported as well?
>>

If I were you I'd wait for m5 mini pro 18 cpu core version, it has the same cpu as m5 max (except that one has 40gpu cores, m5 pro has gpu cores 20).

>>108584062
MacOS is legit better than linux, you just need to learn how to use it properly like all the shortcuts.

My tinker tranny right of fucking around with my OS shall not be infringed

All the games worth playing are playable on it

Maybe you wouldn't need support (also known as handholding) if you didn't use an operaring system designed for browsing instagram and playing mp3 files from iTunes

If you get the upcoming m5 pro version with 20gpu cores you can easily do gayming.

I actually hate Apple to the death. But the Neo and the Mini were really a smart move. Gives Microslop the shits because they have nothing to compete in the normie market.
>>
>>108584168
Minis are pretty good. For Neo I'd wait for the next generation.
Shit cooling and retarded port configuration.
>>
>>108583172
My office upgraded their old Fujitsu "mini" pc's to those mini Mac's this year, can't say I like the OS at all but as a work/surf pc it's perfectly fine.
It's probably a great HTPC as well.
With that said, I would never buy one due to my severe hatred for Apple but if you're not autistic like me it's fine.
>>
>>108584189
>Shit cooling and retarded port configuration.
Tiffany writing her art major thesis probably doesn't care. That's the consumerbase they are aiming for.
>>
>>108584234
That's fair.
Oh the curse of knowledge. You can choose the best but you'll never experience the joy like a normie does.
>>
>>108584097
>>108584149
Sure but look, I already have a machine that can do Pragmata on 1440p at around 200fps maxed out, you know what I mean? I already have a considerably more capable machine than that M5 Pro. I'm more concerned about whether the base M5 Mini will be similarly priced to the current base M4 Mini.
>>
>>108584229
I kind of want one (M1 or M2, for Asahi Linux) to replace my minipc, but even the basic bitch ones are $350 on ebay.
>>
>>108583172
Less hassle to run an Openclaw / hermies agent on them and just leave them on all the time.
You can use a VPS obviously, but for most people this is much easier.
Also, Openclaw had a ton of security issues early on, so this was an easy way to make sure you had a clean environment.
Worst case scenario, you now have a nice additional machine that doesn't take up a lot of room or eat up a lot of electricity.

>>108583331
You can run small models on it. But IMO, everything under 30b models is noticeably worse than frontier models, and a dense 30b model will be sluggish on your machine.
For OpenClaw, the main reason to get a new machine is to have a clean environment so it doesn't have accidental access to personal files, and more importantly if you get malware, you have no personal data on the machine.
But also, IMO OpenClaw sucks when trying to rely on small local models. I just use a frontier model for mine. There's nothing I'm doing on it that I'm terrified of winding up on someone else's servers.
>>
>>108584046
It just worked. I used other free options alongside the Crossover free trial. I also payed for Sponsorblock.
>>
>>108584168
Yes. Also microslop needs a shot over the bow for its complete and utter disregard for privacy norms.
Normies don't pay attention to this stuff, which is why they've been able to get away with turning their OS into a giant bundle of spyware.
Make Apple affordable as affordable as PCs and most normies will flock to mac to avoid giving people the ick
>>
>>108584271
Well, I'd say buy the upcoming basic m5 anyways you get better single core and ai related performance. Price wise, no idea with all the wars, trade wars, chimpouts etc.

M5 are cuck chips with the Fusion Architecture. M4 were the last good Apple chips.
>>
>>108583172
>Why are these M4 minis selling out? What's going on exactly?
>low production
>ram and storage shortage
they aren't selling out because they're good
they're objectively dogshit computer that underreport power consumption by over 80W under load and they overheat easily.
>Are they actually good computers or am I getting memed?
the mini are facebook machines, twitter manchildren waste their money on the studio to willingly run malware like openclaw.
dumbfucks
>>
>>108584522
Can you elaborate on that?
>>
>>108584562
they think the way a chip is made is more important than actual performance
its like saying the 9800x3d is bad because chiplets
>>
>>108584097
>MacOS is legit better than linux
citation needed
linux is a much better architecture than xnu and the overhead of syscalls is lower on linux than on macos.
it would be ok if apple was doing something special with its kernel but it's not, no cgroups but instead some pid relationship clowneries, no virtualization for the sake of security like on windows or no pledge like on openbsd.
just raw performance hit because the code/architecture is dogshit.
linux run better than macos on apple hardware, it has been proven with benchmarks, apple has serious work to do to bring macos and its kernel into the current century
>you just need to learn how to use it properly like all the shortcuts.
this has nothing to do with linux and kde is much better UX than aqua, UI have been solved by xerox decades ago, apple just refuses to improve theirs, most likely because it's a lifestyle company first and foremost and they haven't innovated since jobs died.
it's crazy how this worthless company, whose sole purpose on earth is to waste lithium and to produce ewaste, is valuated so high...

You never used macOS so keep seething Sukdeek Pajeet.
>>

>Lmao, imagine shilling gnome/kde as good UI/UX.
it tells a lot about the industry that the best UI/UX is still dogshit, macos and windows are barely usable, there is something seriously wrong with all these morons designed user interfaces
>You never used macOS so keep seething Sukdeek Pajeet.
thank fucking god, I'd off myself within one hour
>>
>>108584643
>apple just refuses to improve theirs
or maybe they recognize that randomly changing shit people have been familiar with for 20 years will not be an improvement
