> Thompson: I view Linux as something that's not Microsoft, a backlash against Microsoft, no more and no less. I don't think it will be very successful in the long run. I've looked at the source and there are pieces that are good and pieces that are not. A whole bunch of random people have contributed to this source, and the quality varies drastically.lolhttps://www.cs.princeton.edu/courses/archive/spring03/cs333/thompson
Wine is the biggest ROI software you can run on your machine today desu.So Linux is a necessary evil. Linuxulator does not surpass it the way it surpasses Windows.
>>108587333>I don't think it will be very successful in the long runhe was right
>>108587333To be fair, UNIX guys rightfully looked down upon linux with disdain, it really was the hobbyOS. Even though the fans were just as rabid in the early ‘00s at telling you to switch, it took a ton of investment to improve the networking stack.
>>108587548Pretty funny that linux has better compatibility with windows software than windows.
>>108587653True! I don't mind it, it is for the better...
one thing I've noticed is that Linux doesn't have any games
>>108587333>My experience and some of my friends' experience is that Linux is quite unreliable. Microsoft is really unreliable but Linux is worse. In a non-PC environment, it just won't hold up. If you're using it on a single box, that's one thing. But if you want to use Linux in firewalls, gateways, embedded systems, and so on, it has a long way to go.When was that written again?
>>108587645Worse is better. Simple as.
>I've looked at the source and there are pieces that are good and pieces that are not. A whole bunch of random people have contributed to this source, and the quality varies drastically.the irony of an OG unix developer saying this is gold
