tell me more about it.
what if I use it with flatpak/nix/docker/podman?

I also want to be spoonfed OpenBSD info and why it's BaSeD. I already use FreeBSD and was thinking of installing OpenBSD for my laptop instead of Alpine.

That's Luke Smith? You must realise he should appreciate that OpenBSD is free of blobs lest you run fw_update (just disconnect the network,) and it is actually not bloated unlike most Linux distros.
It also doesn't have a Code of Conduct. OpenBSD stays winning except when you need to play video-games. In that case Linux is the only way, I doubt that someone could sell me on the Linuxulator with a clear overhead.

Imagine going as far as switching to OpenBSD and then installing SystemD on it because of podwoman

Don't respond, it's a bot.

trivial to install, tiny to run and use.
X system is strange, maybe can be tuned to be normal.

security focused, ignoring stupid trends, KISS - very nice

I used it on older, and is very nice there. Probable one could have also fun with it inside VMs (hard to hack servers)

there’s none of that, and also no

but it’s home of cwm which is the best floating wm, and xenocara, their own X11 server (tho it’s just a patched Xorg really)

Might not be the latest version if running stable, but apparently yes.

That's it, it's settled. I'm installing FreeBSD.

yes, but not on stable because the version is always older

What's the deal with OpenBSD's file system? Is it any good compared to ZFS, BTRfs, and ext4
>>
>>108587417
I actually ran OpenBSD on a Thinkpad X200 for about 3 whole years and enjoyed it thoroughly. That was about 5 years ago. I still use OpenBSD from time to time to see what it's like, but for my actual computing at the end of that 3 year period I ultimately decided on Gentoo, and about half a year ago I switched to FreeBSD because I got tired of The Linux Foundation and The Linux Community shenanigans.

OpenBSD's clean, maybe less laptops and GPUs are supported, but whenever a certain laptop or GPU is supported, it's supported completely, more so that FreeBSD.

For example, on FreeBSD my Thinkpads' WiFi chips have some quirks, while on OpenBSD they work flawlessly.

The problem with OpenBSD is that despite its autism, it's essentially just the Apple walled garden philosophy UNIXified.

If you want a simple laptop with the programs they have to offer on their package collection, maybe a simple static web server, or something really simple or straight forward to set up and never worry about, OpenBSD's neat.

Me, I wanted latest versions of programs, wanted to compile my own software from source to customize it, and wanted to get into programming and experiment with all kinds of new languages and libraries.

With OpenBSD they don't want you fucking around compiling software by yourself. Their ports don't allow any kind of customization. If you want to just download source code and compile it yourself, you'll have to do an endless amount of patching yourself to get anything to work, due to their autistic adherence to standards.

All in all, it's a cute little OS if you're fine with what you get out of the box. If you're autistic like me, go with Gentoo or FreeBSD.

OpenBSD's filesystem situation is shit. It uses FFS2 which is a little modified UFS (as in UNIX File System from the original UNIXes). I never used many of ZFS's or EXT4's more autistic features, so I never cared much, but OpenBSD's FFS2 does NOT support TRIM for SSDs which grinds them out faster.

OpenBSD's FFS2 is like an inferior and somewhat slower EXT3

Explain??? Last time I used it no TRIM was supported, and I just Googled and nope it isn't???

How do you enable it then?
