Not on all case. There is no way to disable automatic video translating title, for instance, you have to install some extension for that. And the things they offer you some option to disable, I'm pretty sure they always default so that any change on your account it resets the configuration to their default, because they need to push some metric

It ignores the fact that you may bump into that video on another site, where it will appear with the new title or thumbnail. Additionally, you might be watching from a different account or profile, or you could be watching with YouTube history disabled. These inconsistencies increase cognitive overload. Also, even a red progress bar–which signals you’ve already watched the video, doesn't convey the same amount of information. You have no idea what the video you supposedly watched was actually about. I say "supposedly" because even the watched red bar isn't a perfect metric; you may not have actually watched it (perhaps you fell asleep, and it just kept playing). If they had kept the original thumbnail and title, the situational awareness would be much better. You could look at the thumbnail and think, "Oh, okay, I’ve seen this; he talks about X."

"Good" auto-dubbing has a cost. It's essentially the same issue with Gemini censoring the creation of images that benign prompts attached to it. If I ask to generate an image, it refuses because it's retarded and it's using some regex or whatever to evaluate whether or not it is safe. But if I use the Pro mode, it understands the prompt was actually allowed. "Good" algorithms have a cost.

It wasn't auto-dubbed, and the subtitles > auto-translate did not offer me "English" as a language to translate it into, because obviously YouTube assumed it wouldn't need to translate English into English. They're so fucking retarded. And why do they auto-dub videos I don't want to see dubbed, but never auto-dub videos in languages I don't speak? It's the total incompetence that infuriates me.

Google in general is TERRIBLE for multilingual people. Especially if you live in another country and Google gets absolutely confused.

You can also change settings all you want Google just decides to change things up on its own.

I want all of my things in English which is my preferred language. But somehow it decides for me I want youtube videos in my native language and I have to manually change the settings every ~week back to English.

Google maps and other Google services default to Japanese because I live in Japan (and I can speak/read/write so it's fine) . Sometimes this can be handy but sometimes those services don't support the device I'm using so I have to change it back to English but it immediately goes back to japanese.

You can really feel how most Google services are handcrafted by people that are monolingual Americans. Most people in the world are multilingual and most people now default to English as their preferred language not their first language. And not everyone wants the language of the place they live at for services as well.

Google is near-unusable if you do the exact thing I do (multilingual expat living in a third country like Japan)

And that's not the worst part, I've seen more and more thread replies in different languages in what once were originally English threads.
Seems like people google something, Reddit offers them an auto-translated page (say, to Italian), then they create an account and go and comment in Italian, so now you have Italian comments on English threads.
They're literally creating a Tower of Babel situation, in the future you're gonna google something and it's gonna be in like 45 languages making it completely useless.

what barely anyone mentions is how fucked the home page is. for the last 2 years it started showing me the same 10 videos on repeat, just cycling them between which one gets the top position. the only way to find something actually new was through the "new to you" tab (for me at least). then they broke that as well and it started to do the "same 5 videos shit" as well. o i started clicking "not interested" and "do not recommend this channel". and apparently, if you do this too much, picrel will happen to you. the entire fucking homepage is now broken and i only have 4 videos total there. apparently some redditor figured out that you can fix this by clearing all of the channels that you blocked/videos that you've ignored. how is this website THIS shit?

UBlock Origin, Sponsor Block, DeArrow, remove shorts, restore dislikes. That fixes 90% of the issues. YT Revanced / Morphie for Android / Grapheneos bundles most of that out of the box, except for Dearrow custom titles.
