i feel for the markus meme, it sucks. what should i get instead of this piece of crap?
>>
>>108589704
you can get your hands into the backrest to pull out the styrofoam btw, it may help with comfort. i fell for the markus meme too and really despised that chair. just using the base as a stool now. i recommend going somewhere to demo chairs if possible
>>

I can't believe I say this, but get a gamer chair with the least amount of colors/marketing crap on it. some of them are well-made and usually priced decently. Markus is the result of a sole designer doing his thing, and it shows. most of these "gamer-branded" chairs are actually tested.
>>
>>108590053
tbf they're built to last decades so it may not be expensive. assuming it matches you well ergonomically it may also prevent spending money on health and posture related issues down the line. the problem is of course that it frontloads all of the cost. just be sure to demo it as the chair is somewhat divisive

I got an old one at home but also went to ikea a few weeks ago because I need some new furniture. The older chairs were much more comfortable

>>108589704
Go to a furniture store and test all of them within your price range. You can find better chairs for around the same price as an ikea office chair. You don't need an end high chair to sit comfortably and ergonomically
>>
>>108589704
Go to an actual office furniture store / website and buy a chair with good reviews.
An actual office chair is designed to be sat in 8 hours a day, 5 days a week and not break.
Ikea chairs are built like crap despite costing the same price. After having 2 ikea chairs clap out on me in 2 years I refuse to buy a chair that isn't actually designed for office use now.
>>
>>108591076
I will also add the outside look of a chair has very little to do with it's durability.
An actual office-rated chair might look basic but will likely have a cushion designed and rated to keep it's shape with your ass sitting in it for 8 hours straight.
Ikea chairs look nice but the cushions get completely deformed after a few hours of sitting on them, they are not built to the same standard.
>>
>>108589704
>it sucks.
why? up down, decent size seat, you don't need the arm rests
I'm sitting on a kitchen chair right now

next level is a herman miller embody for 1.6k on sale, next level after that is a 247 certified surveilence chair for like 2.3k

me? my kitchen steel chair is 2€ used
>>
>>108591119
You are completely falling for reddit memes if you think the only two options are an ikea chair or a multiple thousand designer chair.
I am the anon above, just go to an office supply site and look at actual office chairs. You will be surprised at how cheap they are. Or actually not surprised if you consider that a business with 100 employees that needs durable office chairs that last multiple years is not going to be spending 2k per employee on herman millers...
>>
>>108589704
I have a Crandall rebuilt Steelcase Leap V2 at the office and I like it well enough, though the cushion is a little soft for me.
>>
>>108591220

>>
>>108591238
Did you actually look? The chair I bought from an office store was £120. Most chairs on those sites are around £300-£500. It's actually very hard to find an office chair from an actual office supply store over 1k that isn't some German designer bs

Chairs are so extremely random when it comes to fitting you. I've tried 50+ over the years including Hermann Miller's, Ikea, Jysk, various gamer chairs and so on.
It's very hard to find one that fits me, now I've settled with a Hoffree XXL Big & Tall from Amazon. I'm 6'8, 322lbs and it's the first one in a long while that I'm comfortable in.
But it's also Amazon so I'm fully expecting it to implode within a year or two.

can you get these things on wheels? ive thought about this but because you cant adjust the arms you have to put your arms up on the table for ergonomics, but that also means the chair is slid right in under the table. with no wheels what do people do just climb in and out of it?
>>
>>108591794
If it's on carpet it slides without issues.
But yes you can buy them with wheels, might be harder to find though.

so what's the lore behind this chair? I have one and have been using it for 20 years, didn't know it was a meme. It's a decent chair but nothing special I thought, very durable though apart from the leather cracking a bit.
>>
>>108590053
it's $1500 new and lasts a lifetime. you can get them for half that refurished. instead you're going to spend double that on cheap department store chairs that only last a year and are ergonomically harmful. imagine willingly subjecting yourself to the the Sam Vimes ‘Boots’ Theory of Socio-Economic Unfairness out of ignorance.

IKEA's JÄRVFJÄLLET is way better than Markus.
Much sturdier with great back support.
It's more expensive but the quality is also much higher so only fair.
It just has such an utter shit name nobody can remember.

And I think they replaced the original mesh version with a cloth version.
I really like the mesh because it keeps my back cool.
>>
>>108592080
I generally agree but I think most 2nd hand office chairs, especially those in good condition, come from companies that either expanded (and want their new furniture to all match) or went belly up.
Private individuals tend to use a chair until it breaks.
So chances are nobody was jerking off in it.

None of them are real words. IKEA furniture is all just named after random syllables that "sound Swedish", or people's names like Markus and Billy.
>>
>>108589704
Used steelcase or herman miller chair. I bought a steelcase amia from an office liquidator for $100. They steam cleaned and extracted it in front of me before handing it over. Best chair I've ever owned.

>>108590053

Hey Chat
>JÄRVFJÄLLET is a Swedish name used by IKEA for a series of office chairs, which translates to a specific geographical location in Sweden.
>Meaning: "Järv" means wolverine (a carnivorous mammal), and "fjället" means the mountain or the fell.
>>
>>108590053
I don't think I know anybody who's bought one new, but even then it's more or less indistructable and completely adjustable. The Markus is a good chair and a fraction of the price, but I also highly recommend the Aeron.

I bought an herman miller embody 6 years ago, best purchase of me life.
I sit over 8 hours a day every single day so I figured I should get something good while still in my 20s.
forget about the backsupport , every fucking one and their mom is talking about lumbar this, lumbar that, fuck this gay shit, the real thing is the seat.
you can sit in this bitch for hours and your ass won't hurt + blood would still flow as usual so no blood cloat and no hemorrhoids.
these two things are much more important that whatever lumbar bullshit your read about online, a tiny bit of exercise is enough to get your back in shape, there is nothing you can do if you ass hurt after being sit for long or if your veins pop out of your fucking ass because you sit on some markus shitness.

get an expensive good chair, you won't regret it, don't be a pussy and get one of the >$1k ones
>>
>>108591658
>implode
I was expecting that from flash furniture hercules but it's been going strong for almost five years.
The gas cylinder obviously failed in like a year, but I just clamped plastic spacers around it, making the chair sit at max height permanently.
The only reason I might replace it is the fake leather peeling off.
>>
>>108589704
>what should i get instead of this piece of crap?
Leap V2.
I was looking into buying a new chair after my OfficeMax chair fell apart. I almost fell for the Gaymer chair shit, but my autism told me that sitting in a bucket seat for prolonged periods of time was retarded. I almost fell for the Ikea meme as well, but luckily the Markus was out of stock.
I spent a weekend learning about REAL office chairs and how to get my hands on those over-priced fuckers.
Crandall Office, buys broken Leaps in bulk and rebuilds them into "like new" condition. They also add a new thicker cushion to the seat and armrest, and will reupholster the chair in whatever color and material you desire from their catalog. They do all of this, whilst charging half the OG price, and you get a true life-time warranty. Best time to buy is during one of their holiday sales. I currently own two now.

You should be able to find used office furniture sellers in and around any metro area. They buy the stock of closing businesses, clean/refurbish worthwhile items, and usually sell on local classifieds or maybe have their own storefronts but not always. These are the best places to buy high quality office chairs for cheap. Find one, go put your ass in some seats, and buy what's comfortable.
>>
>>108589754
>going somewhere to demo chairs if possible

>>
>>108598965
no i mean one of those office furniture places that resell used chairs. they are fairly common around where i live and have all kinds of chairs sourced from business going bankrupt or upgrading etc. if you're set on a specific brand like herman miller or steelcase they have showrooms in big cities too. of course if you live near an IKEA you could go there too but if you hated the markus its probably pointless
>>
Any recommendations for around 100-150 (I can go to 200 if I have to) bucks that isn't Ikea or a bucket gaming seat?
Second hand is not an option where I live unfortunately (island life).
>>
