God I hope this tech gets figured out eventually my dream device has been a trade paperback flat screen with every book and the internet on it since I was like 9.
>>
Why anyone would drop $2k on a phone that's already dented/creased out of the factory is beyond me

Why do zoomers get boners for this utterly minor problem?
>>
>>108590221
Suckers like that need to exist so I can buy their old phones on ebay for a fraction of the price

I like my refurbed Fold 5 a lot (the camera could be better thoughever)

Neutral observer here. Why don't the screens wrap around outside the body? Would help immensely with the pinching.

because the surface isn't nearly as scratch resistant as proper glass

yes hardness and bendyness are pretty much mutually exclusive

Folding phones, at least from Samsung and Google, come with a flexible screen protector on the folding screen to prevent this. If you remove it then you get scratching
>>
>>108590219
me too, fold phones offer the best 3DS emulation since the 3DS
>>
foldables are such a meme garbage tech
you could buy a flagship phone and a tablet for the price of one and have a way better setup
>>
>>108590523
They tried both and inner folding came out on top.

Outer folding would be ideal because then the screen works both folded and unfolded.
But it keeps the fragile screen exposed in your pocket and I think the hinge is actually even harder to get right.
>>
>>108590205
the only way I see this working is with a phone that rolls up
you can't have a crease if the entire screen is one big crease
>>
>>108590851
I have no use for a tablet because it can't fit in my pocket and if I have to carry a bag I might as well bring my laptop.

Folding phones are too fragile for me though.
I think a better alternative is glasses with screens build in.
I have tested one a friend brought from China and it image quality was surprisingly good.
Connected to my phone via USB-C which is OK but I think it needs to be wireless to really catch on.

i've had the z flip 5 for like 3 years now, and the screen, hinge, and crease have never presented a single issue

>>

thats retarded, why isnt that material just built into the screen instead

Just use an iron to remove the crease. If it works on pants it should work on phones
Trustmebro I saw it on tiktok

I hope such a device comes out before your 12nd birthday, anon
>>
>>108591434
So that if you scratch the protector, you can replace it with a new one. Same as with regular phones.
>>
>>108591434
They are not meant to be removed. And anon is most likely memeing anyway, in reference to that mouthbreathing youtube tech reviewer who got a folding phone and ripped the protector off like a gorilla. Then he read the instruction paper that you mustn't do that.

Here's a free million dollar tip for all smartphone manufacturers: instead of trying to make foldable tablets or foldable smartphones, keep one half with a full screen and then put a physical keyboard on the other half. Boom, no more issues with the screen creases, no more issues with the screens breaking because holy fuck who would've thought putting mechanical friction onto a screen will lead to failure, and you fill in a fantastic niche on the market that is physical keyboard phones. Getting more and more popular as more and more people get sick and tired of Steve Jobs' bullshit whenever they need to type something, which is 90% of the time they use a phone.

I was so close to buying an LG V50 or V60 with that before I ended up settling with the G6.
>>
>>108592963
A major limitaton of foldables is that due to the plastic screen and the fact that it gets folded hundreds of thousands of times, you inevitably end up with a crease down the middle that you can feel and see in certain conditions. Oppo apparently solved this issue and advertised it as "zero-feel crease" while also having material that implied there was practically no crease at all.
>>
>>108590219
They would need to invent a new ground-breaking, Star Trek-level material (like transparent aluminum) for a foldable screen to not be absolute shit.
>>
>>108590841
It doesn't fucking prevent anything you retard, and it can hardly be called a screen protector if removing it destroys the screen
>>
>>108594975
dont know what to tell you. my z fold 4 is invincible and im waiting for any excuse to upgrade it.

>>
>>108594962
To be fair even the type of foldable tablet/phones we have now are pretty sci-fi.
>>
>>108591902
this
the Priv would have been great if it didn't have a dogshit slow SoC
>>
>>108590851
The ironic thing about folds are that they have less battery capacity than an equivalently sized phablet so they have only a fraction of the battery life because of the gigantic screen wasting the battery
>>
>>108590205
>buying gimmicks
at that point just buy a + size or a tablet
>>
>>108590205
Wow it's almost like when something folds a crease is made
>>
>>108590205
This tech is one of the most retarded shit I've ever seen. Just make two separated screens with a very thin bezel.
>>
>>108590982
Just buy a 3DS retard
>>
>>108591091
Why? The crease does nothing and doesn't affect anything other than a perceived dip in a screen. It is a big nothing burger, almost like getting your zoomer panties in a wad for not being able to game at 4k 120fps.
>Don't let perfect be the enemy of good enough.
>>
>>108596854
If the crease means nothing why are they selling a zero crease phone

correction lying about selling a zero crease phone
>>
>>108596854
>The crease does nothing
other than being the symptom of wear and stress
enjoy you're $2000 smartphone with a dead screen in a year or two
>>
>>108596854
>>108596950
Its not nothing but its at least a number 4 on the list of most pressing issue foldables have, right after terrible battery life, being way too heavy and having dogshit durability
>>
>>108590572
Classic battleship armor problem. You can have a hard armor that will break instantly or tough armor that can deform but be poked through with a stick.

It was solved by thermal surface treatment of the armor plate on one side so the armor plate would be hard on one side but tough on the other.
>>
>>108590844
Thanks for the baby opinion for children. The next time I want to bing bing wahoo in public I’ll look you up.
>>
>>108595118
Personally I like editing pictures/memes in my free time and a bigger DURABLE screen would be a blessing
It's hard enough to find a device that supports stylus pens natively
>>
>>108596854
This. The crease isn't noticable when the screen is turned on. It does not affect usability or enjoyment.
>>
>>108591902
I had the priv a few years back. Honestly, you never end up using the physical keyboard it's a gimmick and adds extra weight and bulk. I showed ppl who thought it was cool but it wasn't practical.
>>
>>108590253
why would you not just put a huge battery in this to match the size of the camera?
>>
>>108602034
Because people don't want to be carry phones that weight 1lb.
>>
>>108602110
potayto potahto
>>
>>108590219
allegedly the iPhone Ultra/Fold/Whatever will be creaseless
>>
>>108590221
Because people need to consume and flaunt their "wealth".
>>
>>108602110
You were saying?
>>
>>108601444
>>
>>108601363
The screen itself is also under substantially extra stress, which will damage the pixels eventually. It's not just the screen protector having a little dip.
Also further accelerated by the gaps in the hinge mechanic letting more and more dust inside to pile up and put even more stress on the screen as it folds.

Looks no worse than my OnePlus Open... which I had to turn 45 degrees before I could really even pick up the crease on camera. Did they change the actual screen materials on the new one?
>>
>>108591875
Go back
>>
>>108590841
If the screen protector is flexible and unscratchable, why didn't they make the screen itself out of it?
