96% apologists still cannot explain why TKL and a separate numpad you can put wherever is some grave sin and why you MUST commit to the 96% meme.

Or better yet, have the numpad removable/movable to the left. 100% or TKL, depending on whether you're working or playing.

Logitech G610

I've had this keyboard for a good while. A few key caps have broken and are somewhat holding on by rubber bands. I don't really want another gaming keyboard. I'm on a Linix distro and I don't care for needing companion software. I didn't use Logitech's except to adjust the lighting effects in which I found out it can be adjusted manually. The most I want is a type of scroll wheel for volume.

Sell me on the 96%.
In theory it seems superior to the 100% because it has a numpad built in that's also closer to the arrow keys (awesome) while making the keyboard much smaller (Seriously, why is there so much wasted empty space on full-size keyboards), AND it doesn't have an Insert key (Who's stupid idea was it to invent this key? Good riddance!).
But upon closer inspection it seems to be missing the Print Screen key. And it puts the delete key right next to F12. Why would you do this? F12 is one of the most important Function keys and now every time I want to press it I'm at risk of deleting whatever happens to be selected. Are you crazy???
And how do I take screenshots now? I have to set up a new shortcut key/macro?

epomaker split 65 and 70, anyone tried it? there is only few reviews on jewtube by noname pajeets
>>
Going with this. 96% honestly looks neat and I'd like more space on my desktop but I can't seem to find one that has both a volume knob and the print screen key intact (while staying in budget). They seem to only have one or the other.
>>
>>108602492
isn't this just a 100% with a knob?
>>
how many sets of keycaps do you own that aren't in a keyboard?

>>
I don't know If I'm just a pleb or anything but I typed on a generic $15 rgb gaming keyboard and then I tried out a proper mechanical keyboard and I had a 0% improvement in my typing experience, I just don't understand what is it you guys seek to achieve, all keyboards seem equally comfortable the moment your muscle memory catches up, not to mention this market is obsessed with incomplete keyboards making getting exactly what you want annoying
>>
>>108602555
Yeah. I need something with pass-through backlighting caps, a volume knob, and the print screen key, but can't find anything within my budget. The RK ROYAL KLUDGE R98 has both a volume knob and print screen key, but the key caps are opaque. I want light to pass through them so I can use the keyboard in the dark. I guess I could buy extra keycaps with this feature, but I can't find anything that officially supports 96% keyboards, and when I checked the reviews for other caps, some people said the caps don't all fit on certain keyboards. I'd need to do more research.

>>108602619
Can you recommend anything under $100 that's 96%, has passthrough backlit keys, a volume knob, a print screen key, and with silent (or sound-dampened) linear switches?
>>
>>108602751
the product is extremely modular. Any caps you get are gonna fit most switches, any switches you get are gonna fit most generalist boards you get (magnetic are a bit diff). Just get a board you like the look of, and get some keycaps that do what you want if that board doesn't come with them.

Choose one:
A) RK ROYAL KLUDGE R98 Pro (Black)
B) Corsair K70 CORE (Grey)

B seems like a safer, reliable bet, and a good entry point into mechanical keyboards. Common layout/size, probably better compatibility with linux because it's from Corsair. There's an open-source driver/app for linux. Ultimate compatibility/versatility/stability/reliability. Size matters.
Low risk, High reward.

If A worked perfectly out of the box for my use case it would be a massive win because the size/layout is pure kino (In theory), but needs new keycaps for passthrough backlighting, and the uncommon layout/size might cause compatibility issues for certain keycaps (according to amazon reviews and people that have had to return their keycaps because they didn't fit). There have been some complaints about compatibility issues on linux. But it would give me room to use my mouse more efficiently in high octane battles while playing Overwatch. (I don't play Overwatch.) Cutting edge/rolling release/danger zone/reckless driving. Size doesn't matter.
High risk, Higher reward.

>>108603817
>non-standard layout
hhhhh why is Joe's F122 repro the only good choice for battleships

>>108603404
Easy. Unicomp is using worn-out Lexmark molds so the key fitting is ass, the general plastic quality is ass.

If you're willing to spend more, do any and all OOTB maintenance yourself, as well as deal with Joe in case something goes truly wrong, the Model F104 repro is a better choice. Fresh molds, better quality materials, metal case, programmable controller, and the Model F mechanism with it's native NKRO.

Man I love my Rainy75 sound wise but I wish it had a god damn numpad. If I were to change anything about it, I'd make it sound EVEN MORE like bones, and get a numpad. Any pre built recommendations off that? I wish some faggots on Etsy would build me a keyboard like that. I'd give them $400 or whatever they want for it.

I didn't realize linear switches registered key presses before you fully press them. I have to type hard, deliberate, and fast for it to feel right. If I'm slow, sometimes I end up typing that letter before I've fully committed to the key press. In games, there were a couple of times I strafed by accident or in the wrong direction because I was already pre-pressing the next direction like I do on membranes. It feels like I have to fully commit to every key press individually from now on. And no resting my fingers on the keys anymore or being sloppy with my finger transitions (where I end up gliding over the adjacent key to get to another one). I think it might be just having to get used to this new type of keyboard (coming from membrane), but it definitely feels different.

Pressing keys feels really great, I don't know if I can ever go back to membranes. Would brown switches help reduce my errors/accidental presses?
Also, how do you guys type in the dark? I'm surprised how well I can type without looking now, but what is the point of having all this fancy RGB lighting if it doesn't actually illuminate the keys? It's kind of distracting too so I had to turn it off or use a single stationary color.

As I thought. 96% looks great on paper, but my full-size muscle memory is messing up my keystrokes. And I wonder if it's a good idea to retrain this muscle memory on a nonstandard size...

I meant no Fn keys, not F keys.
let me rephrase that: no key that does two different things depending if the task/media/fn key is depressed. i do in fact want F1-F12 at the very least. i want my arrow keys where they should be and all my middle column of Print, ScrollLock, Break, Delete, Insert, PageUp/Down, Home/End. just no numpad, thats all.
if there is multimedia/xf86 functionality in the kb it should be on dedicated keys, not toggled with a different key.

That helps for a short while, but now my V6 Max has half the keys fail to register an input multiple times in a row. Their response to several other people having these kinds of issues was
>lol uhhh the plate is probably slightly bent bro fix it yourself or something idk lololol
Mind you, if the plate was bent enough for the contacts to be fucked across the whole board the stabilizers would almost certainly be sluggish/sticking.
They're simply just made like trash, which is a real shame. Might as well get any other chinesium board for half the price or less.

it's not a piece of shit and you won't be crying about keys double pressing after a week like people regularly bitch about but you will need to buy stabs and lube for the classic tkl because it's a custom, not barebones
