Lots of problems but all very easily fixed. Most caused by myself. I like it so much I am deleting my windows partition this weekend, providing everything continues to go so well for the rest of the week.
The biggest sell is my games get up to +30fps. It's retarded how much better it is for gaming, at least for the games I play.
>>108594346
What packages do you recommend? I spent the weekend installing a bunch of shit and compiling apps.

well you got neofetch which is the most important package on archlinux, and also one of the safest, not sure if you would want to risk installing anything else, maybe a different mouse theme?

that is why i am telling him to just run ubuntu

Have you ever considered not being a faggot? I was giving you the benefit of the doubt, and replying earnestly, and you chose to continue having a melty instead. It's both sad and pathetic.
I tried several before settling on Arch, including Ubuntu. I picked Arch is because the most important thing to me is my games, and it runs them remarkably well compared to the others. It suits my needs, and therefore it's the right choice for me, regardless of what you think the "correct" OS is.
Do you have anything useful or constructive to add to the conversation?

Why would I ever pick this?

is there something wrong with installing Proton on Ubuntu to game? How many frames extra do you get with arch vs ubuntu

for me some games are very important also, but not at the risk of my money-making projects suddenly not working

Nothing was wrong with ubuntu and steam, works fine, average FPS was roughly the same, maybe 2-5% more on Arch, but I got noticeably better 1% lows, about 10%-15%
Both were significantly better than Windows though.

There's a way to trick programs on Linux into thinking the kernel version is 2.6.x , it's a surprise tool that will help us later
>>
>>108594818
you see the problem with apple updates is that it's not an upgrade. It's quite the opposite, usually your os just spies more on you and uses more battery and works less, that's about it
>>
>>108594919
I don't get it
>>
>>108594753
newer versions of the kernel, mesa, drivers and all that shit unironically provide improvements, it's not just a meme, sometimes they're tangible even
that being said, it's not that deep and Ubuntu is perfectly fine
I'm gayming on Ubuntu LTS 24 right now and on the only game I play (Warframe) performance is exactly the same as it was on openSUSE Tumbleweed, a rolling release distro
unimportant shit might be ancient on Ubuntu LTS but drivers and the important graphics-related programs are backported to reasonable versions from latest
still lagging behind rolling release distros obviously but nowhere near as bad as some people make it out to be

>implying Arch isn't mainstream in current year
If you combine all Arch based distros they probably have 1/4 or 1/3 of the market share of Linux. It's not 2010 anymore.
>>
>>108594237
Going straight for pure Arch is smart imo. Ignore the filted anons. My experience with it and it's derivatives have always been positive.

If I was bothered by retards I wouldn't come to /g/.
So far it just werks, and anything that didn't was easy to add, and anything that broke was my own fault, like how I accidentally deleted the boot loader last night.
