It's wild that people still hate on Webp in 2026. Like I could understand the sentiment in 2020 when most phones could not decode it fast enough which led to lag. Like decoding performance is the real world reason AVIF or JPEG XL will never get widespread adoption anytime soon. They're both excellent image formats compared to Webp but they're not as decode friendly so they might see mass adoption in like 2035 or even 2040.BUTT for now we can all benefit from Webp, like why wait until 2035/2040 for AVIF/JPEG XL?
