Are we ever inventing a mode of energy production that isn't boiling water?
>>108610282yes, solar and wind can do that. also nuclear can be used without water turbines.
Solar power just turns sunlight directly into electricity. And even then only photovoltaic panels do this, some solar plants are just... more water boilers.
>>108610282no, no need for a downgrade
>>108610282The only other method is to make a miniature sun and wrap it in solar panels.
>>108610292wind is caused by boiling water moving, sun is moved by boiling water warming the suntry again
>>108610282All the methods of electricity generation that aren't about boiling water or moving water are shit.
>>108610282No need. We have plenty of water.
>>108610282Direct radiation to electricity cells do exist. They are less efficient and more expensive than boiling water.>>108610585At that scale it's once again better to wrap it in boiling water.
Sand "batteries" seem neat. Basically you heat sand instead of water. Your can heat sand to way higher temps than water and it doesn't degrade. Some industrial applications already exist in Finland
>>108610615sand? I've heard of sodium being used like pic related, these things I've read that they heat up and stay warm all night to produce electricity continuously
>>108610282Trick question.Boiling water is not a mode of energy production, it is a mode of conversion of already produced thermal energy into mechanical energy.
>>108610598Seawater is fine for cooling but it can't be used to turn the turbines.
>>108610641Seawater corrodes metal pipes and the heat dispersed into the ocean disturbs the local ecosystem
>>108610641>>108610651
>>108610282I think you mean spinning a turbine. Most energy production methods involve spinning a turbine. Some of them use boiling water to spin the turbine, others don't, like hydro, wind, natural gas (although it does boil water in combined cycle), tidal power. Solar is one of the only types of power that doesn't involve any turbines, unless its the the type that concentrates sunlight to boil water.
We have, they just lower efficiency.>>108610502This. Ayylium/robot niggers in space WISH they could afford to use so much water.
>>108610282sure, just invent another method that is cheaper and more efficient and the economy will jump on it in a heartbeat
what if we harvest electrons directly from the atoms?
>>108610589>sun is moved by boiling water warming the sun
>>108610282Steam turbines will be replaced by supercritical CO2 turbines. They are much smaller (so eventually will become cheaper to build) and have better thermal efficiency.
Too bad water has the highest specific heat of any useful fluid. Perhaps you could try molten lithium or hydrogen, but engineering around those will be a pain in the ass.
>>108610282you can make a big conductor net out in space to harvest energy from solar windyou can boil stuff other than water like CO2nuclear fusion is supposed to get electricity from plasma somehowit's just that we've gotten really good at boiling water and it will take a while to fill out the tech trees for other stuff the real question is whether we can make turbines that don't rely on magnets
>>108610589>sun is moved by boiling water warming the sunlmao
>>108610798they dont really have better thermal efficiency per se, they are better in the temps range many power plants operate>>108610836the idea of using co2 is that you dont boil it at all, boiling and condensing are not really productive conversions.
>>108610940Thermal efficiency depends on the temperature.Just like gas turbines, sCO2 turbines can run at higher temperatures than steam turbines.
>>108610615>Your can heat sand to way higher temps than waterthat makes no sense. the sand would melt and become glass retard. water can hold unlimited heat and when have you ever heard of water "degrading"?nigga you think its gonna break?
>>108610292ok now try with only real methods of power production
>>108610589This was my favorite post in the last 30 days.
>>108610282the chinks might be up to something
>>108611111Makes no sense to your dumb brain. Nice quints tho
>noooo you can't just exploit this loophole in physics to get OP energy production... you just CAN'T, OK????just look at the composition of the universeall advanced life forms will exploit water.
