What do you think paging is?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Memory_paging
>For historical reasons, this technique is sometimes referred to as swapping.
>>
>>108625274
>historical
>>
>>108626356
Yeah, FOR historical reasons.
Same way a "patch" comes from literally patching a hole in a punch card computers used to use, i.e. fixing code.

how's that intel GPU?
>>
>>108630976
It's alright for the price considering I got it for under 200 burgers and I mostly play older stuff, newer stuff you'll get 1080p 60p unless it's monke wukong tier UE5 slop, then you'll need xess.
Drivers are fine on windows, on linux everything will work ok but they still need work in comparison to amd obviously, you lose around 30% of performance compared to windows.
>>
>>108631067
>you lose around 30% of performance compared to windows.
ok, thanks for your input, then the next one will be AMD again
>>
>>108631080
Yeah you're better off with amd for the time being if you're not going to dual boot or do passthrough.
In time linux drivers will get better, they hired a bunch of people to work on them but it's going to take a while(if intel doesn't drop out first considering their AI deal with nvidia).

Smells like Framework Desktop. How does it hold up? I am hesitiating on replacing my current desktop (>>108624488) with it since I don't play much games, except some world of warcraft occasionally. And I prefer the smaller footprint and less maintenance it would require like dusting, etc..

Also how does it perform running local models? What is the use case for this actually (instead of using Claude or Grok)?

How's Kubuntu? Every time I see it brought up, people talk about krashes.

It was the cheapest laptop I could find in the store while I was staying abroad. It functions perfectly well.

>>108626730
So, what is paging from? Writing things down on paper?
>>
>>108633244
I dunno on my system I have no problems at all. If there were any I'd switch.
>>108633237
Been meaning to fix that but it hasn't been an issue for me. My eyes are shit anyway.

How is Linux Mint for you on your RX 9070? Tried to install 22.3 on my PC with a 9060 but I was having some bad visual bugs.

Swapping is the historical term here not paging.
>>
>>108633683
How so?
>>
>>108633731
Zoomies really can't read even if there's literally a link?

>In the 1960s, swapping was an early memory management technique. An entire program or entire segment would be "swapped out" (or "rolled out") from Random-access memory (RAM) to disk or drum, and another one would be swapped in (or rolled in).

>A page, memory page, or virtual page is a fixed-length contiguous block of virtual memory, described by a single entry in a page table.
>The concept is named by analogy to the pages of a printed book.
>>
>>108633765
Books are older than ram, and paging is swapping but named all retarded.
