Technically there's always the alternative of writing your own software, running a highly modified LFS and ignoring all updates that try to implement any sort of vendor lock-in but it's prohibitively expensive, inconvenient and there are very few people skilled enough to pull it off. I don't know. It's hard for me to articulate but after 6 years with Linux I'm starting to feel as if I've made a mistake and any further investment into learning it (administration and as a programming platform) would end up just like my efforts to learn Win32 programming in pre-11 days.

This means that you have to start contributing around (editing the wiki, opening detailed bug reports, etc.) and then find a mentor who can can vouch for you. Big distros are run with corporate interests and are slowly and steadily eliminating any semblance of choice and freedom; all the while dripping with DEI agenda.
Small indie dristros, while well-intentioned in their concept are generally and consistently poorly developed, supported, and maintained. Thus, they do not make for true daily drivers and exist more as hobbyist projects. Likewise, they too are dripping with DEI agenda.
Linux IS dying. Which each every major component becoming more and standardized, eventually there will be ONE distro. You'll get systemd, Wayland, GNOME, and a standardized package manager and you'll like it. Alternatives will cease to exist (as you so foolishly reject).
