Excluding Linux operating systems, what are the best FOSS programs ever created?

For me they are:
>Krita
>7zip
>OBS

And I can't really think of anything else.
>>
Handbrake
OnlyOffice
Audacity
>>
>>108630969
ffmpeg obviously
>>
helix
fish
zellij

love krita though even though im not an artist and have never used it, very well designed and with a KYUTE mascot

Stellarium. I only use it maybe 3 times a year but it's still one of the first things I install on any fresh system

notepad++, "Based on the powerful editing component Scintilla, Notepad++ is written in C++ and uses pure Win32 API and STL which ensures a higher execution speed and smaller program size.", what is the linux equivalent editor?

Better.
Like >>108632218 said, it's practically a clone of MS Office, resulting much more similar UIX and better compatibility.

Hell, ONLY's Powerpoint knockoff even got a Morph transition not too long ago. Literally got no reason to pay for Microslop no more.
>>
>>108631276
Only looked better so I choose it then found it had limitations vs libre. Libre looks like ass however has all the functions I need so it's function over form when comparing to onlyorifus

Did that software finally get a big update that fixed it?
If not what's a good alternative?
>FreeCAD
I am a /tg/fag and I'd like a good software to edit STL models for 3D printing. Is it better than Blender for quick edits?
>>
>>108633039
NTA, but I hated the new GIMP, so presumably you'd like it if you hated the old GIMP.

I only really use it for enhancing contrast and other filters that really any image editor would probably do, but I like it because it's FOSS.
>FreeCAD for editing STL models
Depends on the model and what you're trying to accomplish with it. For FreeCAD the workflow would be transforming that STL into a solid and executing parametric operations on it, you can't actually modify the STL itself on it. For actual useful pieces that need some custom fit, enlarging/reducing holes, adding features and such (you know, CAD), it's far superior to Blender and well worth learning. They're on a roll lately pushing update after update with some massive improvements.
If you're only doing those warhammer models I see on /tg/'s 3d printing general, you're probably better off with blender.

Guess I'll give it another shot.
Thank you.
If it is bad then I hope a better alternative comes out.
How many sheep sacrifices to moloch are needed for a FOSS image editing software to surpass Photoshop like how 7Zip beats winrar in many ways?

I am. Don't worry I like other Tabletop things too but I am still a hopeless nerd of little sculptures pushed around like toys.
Thank you for clearing that up. I'll stick with Blender but I might give FreeCAD a try out of curiosity.
Like I did with trying out Linux.
>>
>>108633552
I really should try going the other way too, and learn some blender myself. I just find it so tiring to work with stuff I can't calculate and measure...
>>
>>108633642
Well I did a search and found a measurement tool.
There's a CAD dimensions tool and I'm not sure if it works: https://extensions.blender.org/add-ons/cad-measure-extension/
Skimmed both of the pages so maybe there's crucial details I missed that make the difference between fitting what you are looking for or not.

To insert a page number into a Libre document, I have to go through ~4 separate menus, some of which look unrelated. There's something about having to insert a manual break? I had to look it up the last time I did it. Then the document lags when it gets to 1000 pages (no images, just text).
In OnlyOffice I click Header -> Insert page number. Done. No lag at 2000 pages.
This is typical of the experience in other areas.
>>108632845
Its text editor is also bafflingly awful.

Is there any open source app that can do what Bandicam does on Windows?
I tried OBS but it's so dumb how you select the area to record within the preview screen. I also tried an open source app called Captura that looks it has potential but it's very buggy and abandoned.

ImageMagick

Record screen
#! /bin/bash
ffmpeg -video_size 1920x1080 -framerate 30 -f x11grab -i :0.0+0,0 ~/Videos/ffmpeg/$(date +%g.%j.%H.%M.%S).ffmpeg.mp4
rm .recording

record selected area of screen reqiures 'slop' program.
#! /bin/bash
ffmpeg -f x11grab -framerate 30 $(slop -f "-video_size %wx%h -i :0.0+%x,%y") ~/Videos/ffmpeg/$(date +%g.%j.%H.%M.%S).ffmpeg.mp4
rm .recording

I always install first thing:
VLC, Audacity, Gimp, Sublime text editor,
HandBrake, LibreOffice, qBitTorrent,
SimpleScreenRecorder, OBS (though I have yet to actually use it)
Kaffeine for OTA TV/DVR with Hauppage USB
>>
>>108634658
SimpleScreenRecorder works flawlessly for screen+audio capture without messing with OBS. not sure what bandicam does tho.
there are 2 config screens, then the go button, thats it, i usually use the default config except if bluetooth audio in use then have to change audio source
>>
>>108634658
I use spectacle, does screenshots but also does screen recording including selected area recording.
