What is the best free video player on the market right now? MPV for some reason keeps stuttering no matter what resolution i put this fucker in. 1080p all the way to 480p this fucking thing stutters. Im running shows via a small windows 10 tablet via mini hdmi on my TV and it fucking sucks.
>>
just use VLC
>>
>he fell for the mpv shilling
just use vlc

mpv has been crashing on me lately when I watch livestreams I guess its a novideo thing

mpv has the most efficient algorithms. get a non piece of shit hardware or put linux on it.

don't use mpv in windows. support will be fully dropped at some point. choose any other player.

mpc-hc

mpc-hc if on windows
mpv for anything else

of course it stutters, turn on vsync
video-sync=display-resample

>>108631337
Your hardware doesn't support hardware decoding of AV1.
just buy better hardware. It's not that expensive.
>>
>>108631337
it only stutters if your device is low end, just use the low quality profile >>108631391

What's the use case for repeating a playlist?

i think there are luas you can use but it's easier to just use a frontend like smplayer, haruna, mpc-qt, etc.

AV1 is not that much more expensive to decode than VP9; no difference on a dual core i3 at least.
>>
>>108632911
*No hardware decoding needed with AV1 on that CPU

I don't think mpv is the problem here

Guys is there a good linuxlinux alternative for potplayer? I use it's subtitle features alot.
>>

what subtitle features?

dual subtitles and creating subtitles from audio using a locally installed model like whisper, it also has some other nice features like translation and word look up. Its Really good if you are trying to learn a new language.

or just whisper-cli for AOT sub creation

a) how can I use https://github.com/werman/noise-suppression-for-voice with https://flathub.org/en/apps/io.mpv.Mpv?

b) I'm on loonix. I have a folder full of videos. How can I list only videos that I have played at least 5 seconds on mpv? I have that option that saves progress to disk
>>
>>108634502
There's an RNNoise filter for EasyEffects. Just wire mpv into that and then the output to your speakers. There should not be any need to edit pipewire.conf files manually, in fact that's so stupid it must be LLM output.
>>
>>108631846
smplayer won't be usable until they stop running mpv in slave mode

use lavfi's arnndn filter:

I'm quite happy with MPC-BE, though figuring out how to enable thumbnails when hovering over the seek bar was annoying as shit

why do peeps need thumbnails over scroll bar, why cant you just seek?

I never even thought about it until Youtube added it as a feature

OP here, I forgot I made this thread and realize that im using a windows surface tablet i took from my job like 8 years ago that used to run Windows 8.1. (It runs Windows 10 not updated since 2022)
But still MPV ran videos at one point smooth, but recently it just drops frames like im battlefield 3 on the PS3.

That's not even a valid combination of options anymore it will spit out errors and play audio only with no window because the legacy renderer can't use vulkan hwdec which is the default for auto and yes

>>108637002
(nta)
YouTube has actual separate low-res thumbnails used so you don't have to wait for caching the streams themselves.
in media players, this is retarded because you need the stream itself to generate temporary thumbnails.
it is extra extra retarded in mpv because a-b looping is available. so you can press `l` then seek then press `l` again, and you would be back to your original position.

when the pole kid gets busy with life, there will be no one left to care about wintardation. even if contributions happen, no one "trustable" will be around to review and test.
the only (purely) community open-source/free projects you can rely on as working on windows, are those which started as window-first programs.

If you watch anime, MPV with anime4k is the best thing you can get. Just modify the mpv.conf and it will run. Google it or ask grok how to do

i literally have anime i downloaded from nyaa paused rn and didn't recognize the logo. it appears to only be on the site's favicon and i had no idea what it was and didn't care
also this show sucks, it's not a recommendation
>>
>>108634949
But I watch the shit I get from nyaa on VLC
Is MPV better when it comes to adjusting the subtitles delay while the video is playing? VLC seems to struggle hard when doing that and it is one of the few reasons that could make me change.
I don't care about the occassional VLC classic visual glitches. At this point they have been part of it for so long and memed about so much that I find them funny.
>>
>>108641654
mpv has both sub-delay and sub-speed options. the former is a time value in ms which you can adjust with z/x (builtin keybinds).
the latter is useful in scenarios where your (often external) subs were made at e.g. 23.9fps and your file is 25fps, i.e. in cases where subs grow more out-of-sync with time.
