I already have a much better PC, thanks.
the mac is way, way more powerful at what's presumably going to be about the same price. no games though.

>>108632330Still cracks me up how normies glaze Steam/Gabe even though this shit is what made online DRM actually viable and cucked their users before MS or Apple.
>>108636752you're just a solipsistic midwit that doesn't understand why valve doesn't consider schizos as their primary audiencemost people want steam's features and schizos like you should be placated by their drm being easy as shit to bypass, that's intentional too
>>108636972>most people want steam's featuresWhich is fine, just it's bizarre how they pretend it's not a DRM meant to strip people of owning things first.
>>108637013>it's not a DRM meant to strip people of owning things first.but that's clearly not the intention, if it was then they'd have aggressive antipiracy measures and cracks like goldberg wouldn't be able to work on almost everythingsteam is about convenience and features first and foremost, the drm is just a stub that integrates game with steam's features
>>108637032Aggressive anti-piracy measures cost way too much money for minimal benefits. The real point of DRM is stripping the people who buy shit out of ownership, so they can't resell shit. You can argue that Gabe went nicer about it by selling golden handcuffs but pretending he isn't selling handcuffs is silly.
>>108637013It's more like their users pretend it's not DRM.In any case there's a good number of games on Steam you can buy and run without opening Steam, essentially being DRM free. The point of running the DRM tool is that you have cloud saves, an overlay with multiple functions and a web browser you can open ingame, steam input (which is actually really advanced), easy screen sharing and a way to very easily run 98% of windows games available on Steam on Linux, all without paying more than what you pay for the games. Are they evil? Certainly, there's multiple controversies surrounding them. They invented microtransactions outside Asian MMOs. They changed a lot of terms and locked accounts behind a "you must accept these new terms to access your account". Everything they sell is digital and can go away. They set the bar really high on sales for a few years and then they got worse and worse to the point they were no longer deals. Unlike Epic, the free shit you get from it is disgusting. They actively unoptimized TF2 to the point where it ran about 800% slower without changing the graphics much from release. They only offer refunds because they got their assholes reamed about it and you can't trade your games at all. And in 3 decades they couldn't find a way to let you change your account name because "well it's complicated". And yet, Microsoft is considerably worse.
neither, I already run osx on one of these
>>108637065physical would go extinct with or without steam, it's more expensive and slowerand digital reselling is simply impossible, in that arrangement you'd have developers either>bringing back tying games to external accounts or limited activation cd keys, everything would become more anal to crackor>developers getting giga fucked out of revenue past the first week since you now have 10k "used" copies you can buy or sell in a few clicks without moving your ass that are indistinguishable from new copies, no one would ever buy newwhat we have now is the best things can get and it can only go downhill
>>108637097>or limited activation cd keys, everything would become more anal to crackI mean, not like games with cd keys were a problem to crack but more importantly, then you would actually own your copy instead of paying for the license to use a game as long as company allows you in a way they want.>>developers getting giga fucked out of revenue past the first week since you now have 10k "used" copies you can buyHappens with the scummy steam keys resellers too that are actually fucking over the devs instead of normal users. Besides, I feel you seriously overestimate the gaymer autism. The people who want to play the game right at release is where the money coming from (aside of micro transactions and the gambling Steam facilitates) while the people who can wait, tend to wait until huge ass sales that don't benefit the devs too much either.
>>108637154>then you would actually own your copy instead of paying for the license to use a game as long as company allows you in a way they want.no, that wouldn't happen as those precautions would be made with the sole intent of not letting you transfer the licenseit'd be going back to why people hated securom and starforce back in the day>The people who want to play the game right at release is where the money coming fromyes, isnot where it would go if you allowed ityou can't project current habits onto what would happen if you let people do that and they changed their habitsbuying used digital would be a no brainer, there is no downside to it, it would be infinitely better than buying used physical and that would mean no developer would actually allow it, they'd just go with enabling protections from the above paragraph
>>108632462>ARM proton layerRosetta 2 handles it>>108632975>VKMoltenVK and recently KosmicKrisp convert Vulkan to Metal
>>108637187>no, that wouldn't happen as those precautions would be made with the sole intent of not letting you transfer the licenseI mean, just like steam then. I kinda fail to see your point. Mine was that cucking customers out of their rights isn't necessary – would the companies still attempt it as long customers let them get away with it? Sure, and Steam is a posterboy for normalizing that shit. At least mfs still complained about securom, give them friendslist and they eat it up and praise the jailor. By making it so acceptable and reducing friction, they literally caused more damage. Though if I had to say something positive about them, the returns thing is a rare, pro customer move.>buying used digital would be a no brainer, there is no downside to itThe downside is still timing. If you have to play the game at release, used digital will be a sucky option because the supply will be limited and unlikely to be that much cheaper either. (besides, the people who resell their shit are likely to spend the money on other games anyway, so the potential losses to devs if customers had more rights are a big if)And if timing doesn't matter for you, used digital wouldn't be that much different from "drm cucked but cheap copy on a sale".Also the habits of people willing to pay premium to get things faster is pretty universal either way, so I don't see why anything would change about that, no matter the licensing model.

Using shit like Everything for searching files is much faster than what the alternative is on macOS, that's for sure. And there is an alternative, a little tool that's basically a carbon copy of it. It's called Cardinal.Anyways, all the reasoning (besides the fame it got for being openclaw machines) I see for the Mac Mini M4 is that it is faster with editing tools (Affinity V3 is considerably slower on Windows, there's a huge fucking difference, and I actually compared it with a much more powerful PC, not my laptop), and that it's less chinky. It only gets warm if you attach an external SSD. It boots in less than 10 seconds, it's very quiet, very inconspicuous.
