>>108636265wow you are so smart you must be well liked and earn a lot of money anon

>>108636150It was bad long before AI. It started going bad when the suits and ties of its upper echelons started cowtailing to the whims of the marketing department over the concerns of the engineering department. Over the years Google's ad income had been dropping. Marketing literally asked the C-suite to order the engineering departments in charge of Search to willfully gimp search in such a way that people would interact with it longer, would hand out more of their valuable data for profiling, and would interact more with 'sponsored' content. All the AI crap including AI overviews; all the knowledge graph crap including those stupid inline Q&As full of useless muck; the integrated Youtube carousel showing shorts nobody is looking for; etc. etc. etc.All of it boils down to the decision that engineering should take orders from marketing and should stop optimizing for customer experience, but start optimizing for surreptitious ad-exposure and session-stretching. They basically turned Search into Facebook, if Facebook was a web search engine.
>>108636309Also- (surprise, surprise) the changing of the power structure coincides with the C-suite and the marketing department both being led by brown-nosing Saaa--rs.
>>108636122That unironically looks so good.
>>108636122No shit
