>>108640931not pedophile, and certainly not a little boy fucker. morally I could never use a Microsoft product.
>>108640931another hour another bait thread
>>108641025It’s not bait at all, there’s no FOSS alternative that comes close in totality.
>>108641013I’m not sure a move to FOSS will distance you from those proclivities. It may even increase them. Besides, Gates liked Russian women in their 20s, totally different ballgame.
>>108641214I get the joke an all. but edgy loli porn isng on the same planet as slitting the throats of 5 year old boys and sodomizing their corpses
>>108641294Is there any witness testimony supporting these claims?
>>108641306I get alot of people deny and cope. go ahead use it, but morally I can't, it is a red line for me. it should have been obvious from the beginning with the inorganic rise to power on what was mediocre tech.
>>108641013>>108641294>>108641326settle down terrorist/ptg/ or >>>/b/ are two blocks down
>>108641371He’s just derailing the thread because it’s preferable to admitting that there’s no alternative.
>>108640931>Open source could never.Org modePandocMedia wiki
>>108641153Same with hypercard but no one cares. There's no open source version because it's not a good idea.
>>108641414Note taking isn’t a good idea? Hooooly cope. >>108641408You’ve never used OneNote.
Taking notes after college is for retards that are in over their heads.
>>108641460Pure, unadulterated, nascent copium in rare form. You’re the exact type of tard you hope to see in these threads, but usually never observe in the wild. Amazing.
>>108641484Put that zinger in your notes app so you can review it with your tryhard intern buddies at the barcade next Friday
>>108640931I just can't write without vim bindings
>>108641371>ptgwhy would I want to associate with pedo protectors? that's morally wrong. also I just used a home rolled PWA that efforltly syncs across all my devices, even works offline and syncs when back online.
>>108640931It is probably the best piece of the office suite at the moment aside from excel which is too much of a crown jewel to let it get jeeted.
All my notes are in excel files.OneNote native spreadsheet capabilities are too barebones while using embedded excel every time is no different from having a hundred xlsx files in a directory. Is there any modern documents management application that's kinda like IDE for office? VSCode excel plugins are read-only and too slow.
>>108640931I prefer pen&paper
>>108642221Um sweaty it doesn't funnel your data straight to NSA/MOSSAD, I mean "sync". So it isn't a valid alternative, because it doesn't get Bill Gates his adrenochrome and rape/murder victims.
>>108640931I use it because it's the only decent app with pen input but it's becoming so damn bloated I tend to avoid it
>>108640931Feels pretty bloated tho, Apple Notes is way nicer if you mainly want notes.
>>108643075I don’t like that Apple notes doesn’t let you zoom in / out, and there’s no infinite canvas.
>>108643095I'm undecided on that tbqh. For some projects the option would be neat but for others lack of infinity canvas seems better to keep shit focused with artificial limits.
>>108640931I'm going to say you're right OP.My dad's been using this shit for a decade now and he blatantly refuses to use a fucking keyboard to take notes. However this shit has some sync issues every now and then and it's annoying as fuck to deal with.
>>108640931OneNote is in legacy mode and Microsoft is killing off versions of it one by one. Eventually it will become like Publisher and get dropped because no one in the company can maintain the code anymore, much less extend the functionality. I'd be great if they'd sell it to a company that would develop it further or even open source it, but Microsoft generally just lets things disappear once they lose interest in it.
>>108643523Well it's not like OneNote prevents you from typing notes either.>>108643731Can you cite any evidence for this, or did you just make it all up?
>>108643754>Well it's not like OneNote prevents you from typing notes either. No I mean it's good for people who don't like doing that very often. When looking for alternatives a lot of them expect less imagery and drawing and more text shit. He does a lot of notetaking on tablets (with a proper handwriting support that is) and taking screenshots and pictures of every fucking thing.
>>108643769Hand written notes really are nice for math, I'm much quicker and scribbling equations than typing them up in latex. >screenshots and pictures of every fucking thing.I do the same thing. Every maintenance project or repair I do is stashed in there. There's even records of everything I've ever planted in my garden.
>>108640931The only thing I fucking HATE about it is that all the "files" are just hyperlinks into the cloud. You don't get an actual .docx like file that you can save locally.
>>108643754Evidence of what? Publisher being dropped was just in the news and reported on /g/ widely. No one owes you a spoon feeding. As for the rest, it's obviously conjecture. Do you always try to stir up shit for no reason other than being lonely? One of these days you're going to show your online personality to someone in the physical world and end up getting punched.
>>108643821>No one owes you a spoon feedingLook how nasty they turn. You made the claims, I just asked you to defend them, which obviously you now term "conjecture". Also the publisher issue is a different matter, they're just merging the features into Word.
>>108643808You can absolutely retain local copies of real files, but that's likely a subscriber feature.
>>108641509Fucking lmao, this is a legit good comeback (and I agree that too much focus on note taking tools is retarded, just more procrastination)
>>108640931I hate that you can't store your notes locally. One of the main thing that makes me stay away from it.
>>108643886Yeah, I was being a bit hyperbolic. I feel like real nigga shit is scribbled on the backside of a coffee stained email printout of last year's toys for tots.Phone or tablet note apps are a performative ritual that shows management>see I'm learning from you and this is all very serious and importantEvery job is different though.
I just use vinwiki. Next question.
>>108640931>notesYou have to be 18 to post.
>>108640931Onenote is literally unusable, Ranjeet.50 rupees will be deducted from your account.
>>108641153It doesn't work. My toaster is technically a replacement, since it syncs text just as well as microshart does.
>>108640931>Remind me why Microsoft is bad again?Because they made a good program like OneNote and fucked it up by making its search feature (the most important feature) literally not work.
>>108645740Everything microsoft touches follows this same pattern.
>>108645766Yeah, search is absolutely garbage in every microsoft product. Windows and Outlook are complete dogshit, Word's search feature probably hasn't been updated since Office 95, Excel got minor improvements but it's still bad.
>>108643899You can make offline local backups?
>>108643899
>>108646767This isn't possible on macOS unfortunately. For whatever reasons, Microsoft decided it will be cloud only. >>108646737Not exactly the same as a full file-based system that can work 100% offline.
>>108647001Are you a subscriber? That might be a premium feature.>>108645717>>108645701Time wasting comments.
>>108647317I have 365 family and use onenote for Mac and windows. Seems indeed that on macOS you can only create new notebooks in the cloud.
>>108647642Brutal. I also just noticed that they massively increased their subscription prices. You cannot even start off with a non-AI option. I’m going to start phasing Microsoft out soon, but it really does suck that there’s actually nothing close to OneNote.
>>108641153that might also be true, but the post leads and ends with obvious bait. therefore it's a bait thread and you should get a different hobby
>>108640931>Runs on all your devices, perfect sync in real time.Bro, your Obsidian?>anstastic stylus support for Surface or iPad (Pencil)I'll give you this one.>indexedObsidian does that IIRC.>images OCR'dI'll give you that one, but meh.>encryptionCan do that with Obsidian.>FOSSReplace Obsidian with Logseq, I guess. But meh.
>>108640931Joplin mogs it.
>>108647777Nice quads, but you cannot even draw within the document, it just saves image files and then makes markdown links to them. So you cannot see any of the images or equation in the 'edit' mode. It's horrible.
>>108640931[Page conflicts detected]
>>108647777>>108647800KDE also has Marknote a simple markdown editor and binder.
>>108647656Are there really people out there who a subscription for a notes app?
>>108640931OneNote is great for creating a giant cluser of shit
>>108640931Nobody cares, most people that rely on MS365 use it at work / on their work issued laptop. Private users just have LibreOffice, iWork or Google. I don't get the "Open Sauce could never" shit. And if you use OneNote for private use, you are sub 100 IQ. Just email your notes to your local police station.
>>108640931Can you give me 5 factual and realistic reasons why I should use OneNote over Obsidian? Buzzwords and Racism/Genderism do not count as valid reasons.
>>108647847That's actually a huge business, and even the ones like Obsidian use only 'sync' as their revenue stream. As for OneNote, that's part of the Microsoft365 package, Word/Excel/1tb one drive etc. >>108648018Weak support for hand written notes on iPad. That's the deal breaker there.>>108647894>>108647950Time wasting idiots.
>>108647819Joplin also has many useful extensions. Like one for Firefox so that you can select part of the Firefox window and send it straight to Joplin. Among many others.Marknote seems decent for quick notes, drafts, brainstorming. But if you're taking notes for a class or need more than just a markdown editor, then Joplin is a good open source alternative to OneNote.
>>108640931>Remind me why Microsoft is bad again?Ask me again when they enshittify your little app to the point of being unusable, or just scrap it because some exec ran out of ketamine. FOSS is about right to repair. You're basically bragging about how proud you are of being a vendor locked cuck that will eventually have their workflow jeeted.
>>108648684That’s just the bait to hook for decent alternatives. So far Obsidian is the closest thing, but handwriting support is an afterthought. I’d actually like to migrate from their software. For both technical and politically incorrect ones.
>>108648018From what I understand Obsidian doesn't have a very good story for collaboration.
>>108648018>Racism/Genderism do not count as valid reasons.Oh what’s the story here? Designed by some black (obsidian) lesbians?
>>108648684>vendor lockedActually this part is important to me. Whatever alternative I find, I want an open source file format, for all the obvious reasons.
>>108643075>>108643119Maybe I'll give Apple notes another look, I just noticed that you can export the notes as simple markdown documents with images included. That's a feature OneNote refuses to implement for both import or export.
It's ridiculous software desu I don't understand the usecase at all.
>>108643754He's correct though - latest version of OneNote is neutered compared to the prior version, and Microsoft is pushing companies towards Loop, which is a god awful abomination
>>108647642Wouldn't surprise me, you also can't create local archives in Outlook on Mac which is fucking mindblowing
>>108648684>You're basically bragging about how proud you are of being a vendor locked cuck that will eventually have their workflow jeeted. This is a good way of putting it. Back in 2018 I heavily relied on evernote for my workflow and got seriously burned when the product took a turn for the worse (multiple sales, electron app, etc). Luckily, a lot of tools emerged to export everything to markdown. After that my priority became to build workflows using only long-standing free/open-source tools and file formats, whatever the "cost" may be.
>>108650292I recall that, Evernote radicalized people. I found a OneNote -> Markdown export tool, so that’s the escape route I’ll take if things take a turn for the worse.
You guys sound productive. Do you anons still play video games? Half my day Im just fucking researching how to be productive, and then playing games.
>>108650800instead of researching how to be productive just be productive. then you can spend the other half of your day playing games guilt-freealso consider adhd if you havent. for years i've been operating on long stretches of procrastination and doing fuck all split up by short, cathartic bursts of hyperfocus. over a long enough period of time i still end up doing some impressive shit
>>108650037I’ve been bouncing between Apple notes and onenote quite a bit over the years. Onenote is way more robust, also the web versions saved me a couple times during work. Apple notes is clean but it sucks it’s apple only. If I could use it on my windows and work machines I would have switched. The webversion is bad. The markdown export is very nice though.
>>108640931>Remind me why Microsoft is bad again? They hand your data over to israel. Then, the israelis steal your business ideas.
>>108640931>Remind me why Microsoft is bad again? You've obviously never migrated a few thousand users' files to onedrive.. if you had you would have cursed onenote.
New version is trash, but the old version is better than almost everything out there. I like Trillium Notes, MyInfo, Xournal++, and Zotero.
>>108650800Kek. Don't bother. There's no productivity hack that will have any effect on your salary. It's all about who you know or who you blow
Just use Joplin for notetaking, it's more than enough. The only time when it's acceptable to pay for microsoft produxts is when you use your company's money
>>108642221>/g/ - Technology
>>108647642HAHAHAHAHAHAImagine still being a windows shill in current year. Unconscionable.
>>108640931Jeetcoded abomination that I progressively regretted the more I used it throughout my whole college career. Fuck this dogshit.
>>108655471No one has made anything better.>>108655500No one has made anything better.
>>108653291> I like Trillium Notes, MyInfo, Xournal++, and Zotero.I’ll check them out.>>108653455Joplin grows on me the more I use it, but damn do they need an interface designer for the iPad app. Introducing drawings into notes in much more stilted than something like one note.
>>108650800>You guys sound productive.Other than scribbling equations, it’s mostly used for as a log entry. If I repair something around the house, I take photos and write down what I did. When did I do an oil change? I’ll check my notes.I don’t follow any of the various productivity philosophies, in my opinion it’s a form of mental illness. In times of old, scribes would follow me around writing down what I told them, but today I have OneNote.
