DIY/Custom PC RAM is possibly the worst indicator of actual RAM prices.
They have been high even relative to boarder DRAM prices, both manufacturers and retailers are going to milk this situation for as long as possible.

my old DDR4 machine is perfectly functional and I have an older but solid machine with DDR3 as well as an even older machine with DDR2.

>my old DDR4 machine is perfectly functional
this. I used to have 64GB in it but I bought a second 64GB kit a year and a half ago for 200 bucks, it's gonna last me for a very long time

>>108644512
Install less RAM, and demand software use less RAM. There is a shit ton of bloat.
Also, why do you people buy new parts all the time, just use your computers.
>>
I have 8GB DDR5 SODIMM I don't need. What house should I buy?

my favorite thing about the scarcity of any resource is how funny it is to see people flaunting their wealth to the other monkeys
humans are funny animals :3

This.
There was never truly a "shortage" to begin with. The DRAM cartels saw an excuse to increase prices and the storefronts played ball.

Good news is now we have tranny/trap ram diguising itself as ddr5 but with sub ddr4 performance.

Keep saying yay to AI while you watch the price of RAM blast off into space. Dumbest fucking people alive.
>>
>>108646351
It's RAM that's sold through retail channels as individual DIMMs or kits.

It's the same DRAM chips but handled and distributed differently compared to the same memory that would go into OEM machines/servers.

>tfw bought 128GB LRDIMMs for ~250$ maybe a year ago
Sucks to suck. You should have seen it coming that they'd pull something to get prices up again once LRDIMMs got THAT fucking cheap.
>>
why does it seem like every retailer all at once are trying to sell their ram at a discount right now?
it has to be coming down and they're just trying the squeeze as much as they can, right?

I'm trying to read through that article and I still have no idea what's the deal with this. So it will still report as being say, 5600 but not be really 5600? and how is it more economical to purchase four sticks of four gig sticks vs two of eight?
Am I missing something?
>>
>>108646930
IDK why people are so retarded nowadays.
The general consensus with RAM for well over a decade was get as much as you can afford and speeds where very situational.
Then at some point it became
>you should only get 16gb so you can run at X speed, look at this stupidly contrived CPU bound benchmark as proof
The reddit obsession with things being hyper optimal in a very specific situation is something to behold.
Now they are FOMOing on RAM despite telling themselves 32GB should be enough.

>>108647865
At some point it starts affecting sales of all components.
>>
>>108644512
even ddr4 rdimms...insane.
wouldn't be surprised if most people bought them believing they'd work on their normal motherboards.

>>

I bought 8x 16GB RDIMMs for $20 each.
Now they want like $120
Regular DDR4 is like half the cost used.

What kind of caught me on to the scam was the seller I bought the sticks from sent DIMMs that where manufactured 6-7 years ago and now those same DIMMs are $120

Prices will go up at least 10x by end of year for NAND, DRAM is cheaper.
