there was legitimately a time where a SWE or CS degree could get you a comfy six figure job right out of college. I hate ai and indians so much

Whats the next degree/field of study that will be shilled right in time for another ruefully?

Not when you're a yuropoor but at least that keeps the supply low

indians and women only
AI didn't and won't do shit
>>
>>108646264
the american figures are a bit of a lie anyway, the highest paying jobs are also at the most expensive places to live at, places that make London look reasonably priced in comparison
>>
>>108646137
That's not even true, since 2005 an entry level software job would get you 50k-70k unless you lived in New York or Silicon Valley, where you could make 100k starting, but then you get to pay 30k extra for a place to live, effectively making the same as the software devs working in bumfuck nowhere.
>>
yeah it’s terrible, no one should get a comp sci degree and everyone should switch to a different career path, it’s over
>>

>SWE
>hate ai
Motherfucker, you're complaining about taxi fare sitting in the driver's seat. If you're not the one making money off this tech boom, missed opportunity I guess. When there's a gold rush, sell the shovels.
>>
>>108646137
2010s was an insane time to be in tech you could easily clear $200k+ to program javascript

The golden age of DEI for middle class white people.

At the exclusion of who? If it’s DEI it means more capable people are being discriminated against in favor of less capable people. Just cuz the job market was good doesn’t mean any group was being unfairly advantaged

Business owners (the ones who make America function) were being discriminated against by having to pay wildly inflated salaries for people whose capabilities are far less than their asking price. It's textbook DEI.
Grossly inflated tech salaries hurt entrepreneurs and literally anyone who has a piece of their wealth tied up in the stock market, since it takes away opportunity for the former and ROI (on retirement funds, etc.) for the latter.
In fact, the whole tech industry suffered because of such DEI positions. Tech salaries still have a long way to fall down before things become based on merit, but we're getting there.

>having to pay wildly inflated salaries
What is compelling them to pay inflated salaries?
>>
>>108646137
Indians aren't the enemy, they're the weapon.
>>
>>108649467
Socio-political pressure, obviously. That's why DEI is even a thing.
>>
>>108649373
DEI is racial hiring quotas. You're describing a labor bubble, which is another kind of problem.
>>
>>108649513
>sociopolitical pressure caused high tech salaries.
Are you just making things up?
>>
>>108649519
No, DEI encompasses more than just race, even though race is a prominent part of it.
It is DEI which gave way to the salary bubble. The root of the problem is DEI. Ignoring this is apologetics for DEI.
>>
>>108646137
lamer with no love for the game just chasing money. if you had any passion you could still land that comfy six figure just even without a degree.
>>
>>108649535
If you don't understand what I'm saying, then you're likely unfamiliar with the topic. Read up on "elite overproduction". Tech jobs were a way to provide equity (the E in DEI) in particular for a subgroup of society that is primarily composed of middle (not upper) class white males, to give them a supposedly "deserved" taste of wealth at a large financial cost to software companies. It has reached its breaking point.
It's a part of the entire shift away from DEI, but most people online only pay attention to the black woman diversity hire stereotype.

Why are you posting low quality replies? If you don't want to discuss, then don't post. If you disagree with something, then try to coherently convey that. Did I say something that made you uncomfortable?

I'll let you in on a secret - there was a time when you just walked into IBM with a high school diploma, gave the manager a firm handshake, and you were just given a programming job.
>>
>>108646137
AI and indians aren't the problem
the problem is nepotism capitalism racism and the paper ceiling, nothing more, nothing less.

The bubble in tech job valuations in the US is finally bursting.

The comfiest time was the 80s when knowing basic DOS could land you well paying office jobs
