This really is the final pill, and for a lot of you, it’s the toughest pill to swallow. You will dismiss this, you may even be angry about it, but whether it’s now or later you will ultimately accept it.

Take the Microsoft pill today.
>>
Sure but I'm still not installing 11.
And 10 only just works because I tinkertrannied it. So basically no different from Linux, just slightly easier.
>>
>>108649883
If you have the capability to tinkertranny, you’re going to tinkertranny even on an iPad. What becomes a lot easier is running anything you want without having to worry about platform support. Eleven isn’t half as bad as you hear, but it’s going to significantly improve in the near future.
>>
>>108649847
Wake me up when they fix the shitty web UI, give back themes, and let people to disable updates and let people to make local accounts
>>
>>108649910
You can make local accounts today. What’s with this ‘disable updates’ though? What alternative system are you using that you never update? I notice even on Fedora, I have updates to perform every 2-3 days. With Windows it’s once a month, and security updates whenever needed (no reason to ignore these).
>>
>>108649847
Winhance makes the experience very bearable since I can take out the ass part of 11

No it don't, If it did i would be using it.
I don't give a shit for politics or open source or "security" or any of this trash.
I just want an OS that works for me 100% of the time and don't keep wasting my SSD with fucking endless downloads and scans i didn't asked for.

How do I get rid of the kernel-level spyware on Windows? How can I get a single widget toolkit for my desktop environment? How do I check my battery health without using CMD? How can I use less than a gigabyte of RAM after a cold boot? How do I avoid updates breaking stuff constantly?

Oh, that's all impossible? Then Windows 11 doesn't just work.

>How do I get rid of the kernel-level spyware on Windows
By not willingly installing kernel-level spyware in your machine.
>How can I get a single widget toolkit for my desktop environment?
You can't do that on Linux either without crippling yourself.
>How do I check my battery health without using CMD?
Usecase? And how do you do that on Linux? How often do you check "battery health"?
>use less than a gigabyte of RAM after a cold boot
Usecase? What's the fucking point of those retarded arbitrary metrics? You care about fucking cold boot ram usage but not how your notebook lasts 1/3 less time on linux?
>How do I avoid updates breaking stuff constantly?
You can disable automatic updates if you want, stop treating it as a rolling distro. You can have all updates other than security ones disabled. Or cripple defender and the update services to the point they don't work anymore. That way you can update manually whenever you want.
>Why do people never talk about how simple it is to make windows obey you
Most people that tinker with Windows are employed, unlike Linux users, unfortunately I am not.

But the Windows kernel IS the kernel-level spyware.
>You can't do that on Linux either without crippling yourself.
What? Every Linux DE is built around a single toolkit.
>Usecase? And how do you do that on Linux? How often do you check "battery health"?
Finding out whether your low battery lives are the result of your battery degrading over time, or Windows becoming more bloated over time. On KDE Plasma you just click on the battery icon in your systray and it shows you your battery health, along with the current charge.
I don't know why you put "battery health" in quotes as if it's not a self-evident or even commonly used term.
>Usecase? What's the fucking point of those retarded arbitrary metrics? You care about fucking cold boot ram usage but not how your notebook lasts 1/3 less time on linux?
Years of Microsoft's planned obsolescence brought my laptop to the point where it was getting less than an hour of battery life, and that was a device I ONLY used for uni work with MS Office; I never installed games on it, never went on porn sites with it, never installed random programs, and I rarely even used it outside of class. Suddenly, after not using it for half a year (I had graduated), Windows decided to use 2/3 of my RAM and drain my battery flat in under an hour. I thought my battery itself was dying when the issue was actually Windows. Microsoft probably hides the battery health from the GUI precisely so that you don't know your battery is fine, precisely so that you think your laptop is dying, in order to make you buy a new Windows 11 machine.
>You can disable automatic updates if you want
The issue isn't so much whether the updates are automatic, but the fact that I can't inherently trust the updates in the first place. I shouldn't be expected to research whether the vibecoding jeets at Microsoft borked this update; if I get an update notification, I should be able to trust it.

>Windows just works.
Windows 11 has less hardware support than Windows 10. Recent Windows 11 updates have been bricking computers. The world would have been more functional without Windows 11 happening. Very literally.

>You will ultimately accept it.
Windows desktop marketshare has been on the decline. I own both Linux and a Windows desktop at home, but Windows has been getting enshittified with ads, copilot, unstable updates, recall, auto-installed bloatware, useless cloud services that require Microsoft accounts, etc. Would be nice if it would just stop getting worse. My Linux platform allegedly handles my GPUs better than my Windows box would, so there's that.

>This really is the final pill
Windows is still "good enough". Congrats. Use whatever you want.

I use Windows 11 since 23H2, I use GNU/+Linux (Arch Flavour) for ~6 years and I use macOS since Big Sur.
I have never EVER encountered a singular issue on either of those, they simply just work and perform the tasks they were made for perfectly fine with zero issues what-so-ever, all they require is a bit of configuring and they're perfect in their own regards.
Your OS wars are more cringe than /v/'s console wars, which is funny because even /v/ grew out of those yet you children are still fighting about Operating Systems.

NTA but yes, with a workaround, you can make a local first account on Windows 11. When first installing Windows, don't be connected to the internet. If you're not connected to the internet, the Windows installer will give you the option to make a local account, because you can't sign up for an MS account without connectivity. This worked for me several months ago. Still pissed me off though.

I bought a new computer yesterday and it has windows 11 preinstalled, the first thing it did was force me to sit through an hour+ of mandatory updates before it would even let me do anything and then it did the ms account shit. This is because I hooked it up to the Internet unaware of how fucked up windows has gotten. The best part is even if you cancel the setup process and restart it will remember your WiFi password, you have to completely reinstall windows in order to go offline. Just flat out do not use windows, Microsoft does not respect you and the product shows. Windows 11 is the most broken pile of shit ever produced and the fact Microsoft has to pay shills to come in here and push their dogshit is very telling. Microsoft didn’t have to shill windows 7, it worked out of the box with no issues.

In 2026 you can install Linux and works far better than this garbage, none of this hacky bullshit, no accounts, no forced updates, no AI training surveys, no copilot, just turn your computer on and use it.

Ah, I see, you’re a shill. No wonder you got so offended when I called windows 11 a gigantic pile of shit. I think any operating system designed solely to extract user data in as many ways as possible is already pretty bad, but the fact windows 11 barely fucking works on top of that is what really upgrades it to dogshit status. Anyways, would you people please just fuck off already? No, you aren’t being subtle, we all know what you are.

Not for games, used to get system crashes with certain games no matter what even on clean images. Switched to bazzite several months ago and I can finally play all of them without system crashes, not even CTDs. In fact I haven't gotten a single system crash period since switching.
Also had horrible stutter for several games on Windows, nothing on Bazzite. Granted that is probably just a matter of shader precaching and vulkan being the default.
