I don't really need icons in my terminal. It's nice, but I don't need them.
>>
Why not just use emojis?
Or better yet, kill yourself.
>>
>>108651497
I think programs should be able to render arbitrary pixel data on the terminal.

How did they survived in the 80s without this???
>>
I've never seen the point of icons in terminals. It's gay faggot shit.
>>
>>108651497
...or you could just not use any of this shit in your terminal.
>>
>>108651506
Glyphs aren't icons.
>>
Even if you wanted to, which I agree with most people ITT that you shouldn't, you could just use sixel or other already well defined standard. Except that wouldn't put your name out there which is what this shit is always about: not solving some problem but getting some laurels instead.
>>
>>108652169
but think of your data plan, it's a whole 10mb to install a font that fixes everything. instead, use my vibecoded turd of a project that exists because i was unaware of prior solutions!
>>

I used em dashes for decades before AI existed. I just thought they looked nice and did a good job breaking up an aside thought in a sentence.
>>
>>108652740
I use carriage return instead of enter so I never need new lines. You gotta fast to be this good.

I'm trans btw

Nobody asked for this.

I did

Terminals should be ASCII only, use a GUI if you want more.

as a long time linux user, i actually have no idea what he's talking about
>>
>>108654938
it's a thing i first encountered on macs with shit like homebrew using cute emojis/characters everywhere. i've seen it on linux as well, and now ai puts emoji into all of the code it makes. it's horrible.
>>
>>108652128
It's retards like you that keep computers held back.
>>
just use gui applications if you want nerdfonts or some other gay shit like that
>>
>>108651497
Poser shit. All you need for your shell is a .zshrc with a handful of ZSH's built ins turned on. You don't need oh my zsh shit that makes your shell take 5+ seconds to boot.

This is for people who want a GUI, but who want to feel 1337 for using the terminal.
>>
>>108651497
...or you could just write your console programs to only use ASCIIi

Solve the problem by not having the problem in the first place.

why does the text in op's screenshot looks like shit?

I bought computer hardware for decades and the LLMs fucked that up too.

FPBP. Only ricing idiots that never terminal use nerdfont and other bullshit.

user@terminal: ~ : $
is all you need.

Refusing to use irreplaceable functions of the English language solely because some Venture Capitol money siphon abuses that function may be the most retarded, contrarian bullshit I've heard. I will continue using em dashes.
>>

The real problem is people pretending they're using a PDP-11 instead of taking advantage of all the features that computers in the 80s were capable of doing, like graphics. You shouldn't be using a terminal unless you're connecting to another computer. Your computer's capable of displaying graphics, so just use a text window for interactive program I/O, like Racket, instead of a "terminal." Some languages in the 80s were used for graphics too like BASIC and LOGO. The obsession with "terminals" is more UNIX brain damage.

They already have that, except it's not a "terminal." You're using one right now.
>>
>>108651497
You know the whole point of terminals is to be simple, so how about we keep em that way?
