When it breaks.

Every 6-7 years is usually when my battery becomes utter dogshit so I get a new one that is mid-range.
>>
when t-mobile switched to 5G, i had to get a new phone that supported it.

Had to upgrade when they discontinued 3G service in my area. Will upgrade again if/when they discontinue LTE.
>>
>>108652289
The phone salesman lied to you. I'm using TMobile 4G LTE right now.
>>
>>108652151
Only if the picture quality improves significantly, like every 4-5 years.

When I see someone arguing about phones, I immediately assume they're jeets

Aren't midrange phones never worth it though? Flagship phones usually have way better longevity
>>
>>108652484
Depends on the phone desu. Midrange Samsungs and Xiaomis have pretty decent longevity in my experience. No name midranges are pretty bad, though.
>>
>>108652151
When it has dropped enough times to break and stop working.
>>
>>108652151
can I still call it upgrade when I only buy new when the existing one breaks and I only ever buy cheaper knock-offier models then the last one?
>>
>>108652151
I'm still using my iPhone 12. I may get 17e soon (the poorfag version) and it will probably last me until at least 2030.
>>
>>108652151
Idk I'm in uncharted territory. I'll upgrade when I feel like it's necessary. At least another few years.
>>
>>108652151
My current phone is from 2018. I feel like it's about time I bought a new one so I've been looking around what to get. Whatever it is I plan to use it for a similar length of time, if not longer even.

I may be a unique case because I'm using Arch Linux btw but I also use an iPhone. I inherited this one from my ex-girlfriend when she upgraded because my last phone I destroyed when we were at the gym and then I realized that, at least from my experience, iPhone/iOS gives you superior general experience unless you're looking for tinkering with launchers etc or sideloading apps.
>>
>>108652151
when it breaks, so far that has been 3.5, 3.5 and 4 years. that last one still works great after booting the chink OS and installing lineage

About every 7 years or so, I would say.
My OnePlus 7 Pro is about that age and I still don't see a reason to replace it.
I don't understand people who replace their phones every 3 or 4 years when innovation is basically zero.
>>
>>108652484
Depends on what you use it for, I just use my phone for 2FA and to jerk off sometimes so I don't really care about going flagship.
>>
>>108652151
When they stop patching the viruses
>>
>>108652151
When it breaks so badly I can't fix it anymore.
>>
>>108652151
just when i want to
i wouldnt have upgraded from the 15 pro max if they didn't release the Air. I'll probably stick with this for at least a couple more years. I really hope they eventually release a new version. Don't care if it's yearly, but I just hope they don't ruin it by adding a bunch of cameras and speakers

My phone is still from 2019 and does the job perfectly.
>>
I use hand-me-downs so never?
>>

Whenever it breaks.

I'm a NEET so I just use whatever phone my dad had cracked the screen on and thrown away. I really have no use for a mobile device other than taking photos of my penis to show fat women on /r9k/. Current phone is an android something whatever from 2017.
>>
>>108652563
Im pretty sure my 6 year old Samsung is midrange and its still going strong. I've nevwr run out of storage space and I've never been limited by compute either so I don't see the point in flagship now unless you're a wannabe influencer looking for a dlsr replacement.

I use Apple's iPhone Upgrade Program, so I get a new phone every year.

I'm still using a 1st gen iPhone SE. The more apps stop being updated on it the better since I just delete them and use the space for other stuff. I should update but it still works and newer phones don't have the same small form factor.
>>
>>108652151
I was still rocking my Galaxy S8 until a couple of months ago.
>>
>>108652151
I'm upgrading when there's an upgrade. Still waiting for an upgrade to my oneplus 7 pro to be made.
