Hi /g/My SD Card became corrupted after copying files. I ran chkdsk which wiped my card. I'm currently running Recuva but unsure if that's the best thing to do.So is there any way to recover my files? It's a Sandisk SD Card. Any help is hugely appreciated. Thank you.
>>108654311Is it less than 256GB in capacity? If so you're fucked because those use 2D NAND instead of modern 3D NAND.
>>108654328it's 512gb so this scan is taking a long time
>>108654311You should make a full disk image and the work on that. Try QPhotorec for example. But don't expect the recovered files to have the correct file names. >>108654328Completely irrelevant
>>108654311First make a copy with dd, sudo dd if=/dev/yourfuckingsdcard of=file.imageThen https://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/PhotoRec
>>1086544062D nand would have write endurance so dogshit it would develop hotspots where small sections of NAND failed before the whole thing did. That's why older SD cards were so unreliable and why phone OEMs got rid of the SD card slot, mostly. Of course these kikes could have given us UFS card slots but instead we got LE CLOUD that goes down once a month instead...
>>108654493Many microsd cards now use 3D nand. You seem confused.
>>108654511Most do but OEMs don't want to waste stamping out 32GB 3D NAND blanks because 256GB ones are more profitable. So the 32/64/128 out there are old inventory being sold (for extortionate prices as well lol) are 2D NAND.
>>108654533The lower capacity ones being sold are made from the latest partially faulty chips and have the same speed rating as the biggest ones. A few years ago a hacker took a look at flash chips, he found that even small 128MB ones were based on defective 16GB or larger chips.
>>108654311>So is there any way to recover my files?Restore from backup.
>>108654311First testdisk, which best case recovers the partition, if that didn't lead to anything photorec which will just scan the whole card and recovers any file it can find but can't recover the directory structure
>>108654493>>108654328>yet another quack larp with a bunch of untrue retarded nonsensethis board is turning to shit with how much misinformation spam and shilling is going on>you need the more expensive sd card goysame shit nintendo is doing with the switch 2 memory card, /g/ is literally just shillhub
>>1086547961. Cells were packed too tightlyIn 2D NAND, memory cells sit side-by-side on a flat surface. As process nodes shrank (down to ~15–20 nm), the cells got extremely close together. This caused cell-to-cell interference—when you program one cell, it can unintentionally disturb its neighbors. That leads to bit errors.2. Fewer electrons per cellEach cell stores data as electrical charge. In tiny 2D cells, there are very few electrons representing a value. Lose just a handful, and the stored bit can flip. This made data retention worse over time.3. More susceptibility to wearWriting to NAND involves stressing the insulating layer (tunneling oxide). In small 2D cells, that layer is thinner, so it degrades faster. Result: lower program/erase cycle endurance.4. Higher error rates with MLC/TLCAs 2D NAND evolved to store more bits per cell (MLC TLC), it had to distinguish between more voltage levels in already tiny, noisy cells. That dramatically increased error rates and required heavy error correction. Why 3D NAND is more reliable3D NAND (like vertical stacking used by companies such as Samsung Electronics and Micron Technology) flipped the approach:1. Bigger cells againInstead of shrinking cells further, manufacturers stack them vertically. This allows larger physical cells, which hold more charge and are less error-prone.2. Less interferenceCells are spaced differently in 3D structures, reducing lateral interference compared to tightly packed 2D layouts.3. Thicker insulating layersBecause cells aren’t as aggressively miniaturized, the oxide layers can be thicker, improving durability and endurance.4. Charge trap designMost 3D NAND uses charge trap flash instead of floating gate. It’s more resistant to leakage and defects, improving retention and reliability.
>>108654844Damn I didn't know chatgpt posted here. What's up, ChatGPT-chan?
>>108654991as someone who is posting the first time in this thread, using llm response to show you why you're wrong is completely legitimate. It is almost certainly true from my retarded view that 3D nand would help, but that 2D nand isn't necessarily game over.
>>108655034The problem might be no dram on SD cards. I won't pretend to understand dram but if raw nand itself has the job of doing whatever dram does then it seems like it should be done by 3D NAND.I have a drawer full of corrupted 16/32 GB SD cards but no dead 256GB ones yet.
>>108655296>>108655034>>108654844This doesn't help OP recover his files you spergs
>>108654311>I ran chkdsk which wiped my card
>>108654615So what's the consensus today on USB flash drives? I bought a HP USB flash drive recently and it shat its pants on the second insert and never recovered yet I have over a decade old first gen usb 3.0 SanDisk Extreme still working fine after hundreds of formats and inserts over the years.
>>108656014I use old SATA SSDs and a $5 adapter. You can also get USB to M.2 adapters and cheap second hand SSDs if you want something smaller. These are faster and more reliable than flash drives.
>>108656037That's a weird uncanny valley anon. I used flash drives for smaller storage of more temporary data, and portable hdd's for large amounts of long term important data.
>>108656037That's what I have repurposed my old SSDs to. ASMedia has the best SATA/USB controller for external enclosures. Still, I need another reliable pen drive on my keyring for when I'm on the go.
Guys could you please just help me recover my data? This has gotten really off topic. The Recuva scan is 11% done and will take a couple days to finish, I don't want it to be a waste of time.
>>108657008Recuva is shitMake a disk image with Rufus and use QPhotorec on it.
>>108657008Get a professional to do it. You cannot recover it with regular normie tools.
>>108657039>Make a disk image with RufusHow do I do this? I've installed Rufus and not sure what I'm supposed to select.>>108657057I'm broke right now, if I took my SD Card out my PC would the files still be recoverable?
>>108654311just pirate DiskDrill and check if it works using that
>>108654311i have bad newsSD cards are notable for being fragile (even the highest quality)
>>108657086>How do I do this? I've installed Rufus and not sure what I'm supposed to select.Open Rufus, select the sd card on the top, and click on the floppy icon next to itTry to save it as an .img if possibleDO NOT click on the buttons on the bottom
>>108654311Just copy the files from your backupYou did backup your oh so important files, right?
>>108657146the sd card was my backup
>>108657151You just got what you asked for then
>>108657127I'll give this a try, thank you
>>108657086Are you on Windows? That make it a bit harder if so. Unfortunately, I've only done data recovery on FreeBSD with an SSD. You want to clone the data before you scan because the more you read from and write to the SD card, the more chance of things getting worse. You'll want to do all the scanning on the clone as well rather than the original. I'm not sure how to do it for Windows, seems like there is some software like USB Image Tool and Win32 Disk Imager. Maybe Rufus would work, but not sure if it's ideal. Ejecting the card after should be good, if not actually preferable. Maybe another anon can call me retarded if I'm wrong.
>>108657127new problem, it's creating an img but on my pc internal storage which doesn't have the space needed. Is it safe to cancel while writing?
>>108657191yes it's safe
>>108657195It's saying it may be unusable though. I'm terrified that will be the end of it
>>108657201The copy will be unusable but the card itself is still ok. Just make sure to not format it again and to not put any new files onto it, or you will overwrite the deleted onesIf the microsd has important files it might make sense to send it to a professional who can recover them. Costs a few hundred bucks tho

>>108657210now I'm getting a data error and it cancels the write. wtf??
its dead, nigga. learn your lesson about backups and move on. i lost a 2tb ssd before with no backup
>>108654311you got CHINKED
>>108654493>and why phone OEMs got rid of the SD card slotno, they got rid of SD card slots to force you on (((the cloud)))
lol
