These aren't cases of "It's not Linux Fault". Linux simply lacks or has gimped capabilities to bring to the table.

When you move from Edge on Windows to Edge on Linux, you lose every feature that depends on deep Windows OS integration. The browser looks similar, but under the hood it’s missing entire subsystems that Edge normally plugs into.

The biggest gaps are the security integrations. Linux Edge uses its own cert store instead of the system’s which breaks enterprise workflows, smartcards, corporate SSO, etc. There's no Windows Hello, no biometric login for profiles, passwords, or autofill. No protected PDF mode / Secure Mode on Windows, Edge uses Windows’ sandbox and signing APIs. On Linux, PDF signing is missing or limited because there’s no OS crypto provider. Windows SmartScreen is OS‑level; Linux Edge only gets the browser‑level phishing protection.

Linux Edge only supports Widevine but not PlayReady. Some 4K/1080p streaming (Netflix, Prime, Disney+) is unavailable or downgraded. Hardware‑accelerated video decoding on Windows is fully supported via DXVA. On Linux, it depends on distro, VAAPI quirks, and it's sometimes disabled entirely.

Windows Edge can be managed like any Windows app. Linux Edge uses JSON policies but lacks the full GPO ecosystem. Windows Defender Application Guard is not available on Linux. Linux uses web-based auth only.

Share UI (Windows Share Sheet) is missing on Linux. Linux Edge has only the built‑in PDF tools.

No Windows graphics stack (D3D11, ANGLE on D3D), Linux uses GL/Vulkan paths that vary by distro and driver. No OS‑level memory compression or process management: Windows Edge benefits from Windows’ memory manager; Linux Edge is more “raw”.

Even if Grandma only uses Linux for web surfing and has you as their IT guy; you're still imposing your crappy half-assed commie OS on her.

>We
Don't speak for me. I use Edge, it's fantastic. And of course, on Windows 11 Pro.
>>
That's great. Perhaps I will continue using a non-Edge browser on a non-Windows operating system.

Well yeah Edge is a Windows fork of Chrome. Edge is so intertwined with Windows it's used by the start menu and for apps like Epic Games Store all depend on Microsofts Edge Webview2. Getting rid of Microsoft/Windows defeats the whole purpose of using Edge.

It's weird MS ran a campaign saying everything is an Xbox
But not a Linux machine
