China's top AI labs are undercutting US competitors and winning over developers by making their best models freehttps://www.technologyreview.com/2026/04/21/1135658/china-open-source-models-ai-artificial-intelligence/

Aren't they just distilling the western models on the cheap? If they have no proprietary data to lose, then obviously it is in their interest to undercut their competition by releasing it for free.
>>108657413I cringed at this post
>>108657413This is not capitalism. This is communism. They're taking away resources from the capitalist and redistribute it to the public for free.
Yup

>>108658704>>108658182sorry about your small pp, but that's what it is.
>>108657428just the usual chinese dumping. it always seems good in the short term so absolute retards will even praise them for it.

>>108657160>Their best model was deepseek>completely ignoring this year's MiniMax, Kimi, GLMlmao it's not even cope at this point just willful luddite stupidity>>108657428and western models are distilling pirated copyrighted books and internet content from users who won't ever bring them to court, no one in AI is playing by the old rules at this pointwhich is good copyright is a spook anyway, LLMs have fundamentally changed the workflow of creatives, researchers and professionals alike and Chinese labs are doing the right thing in democratizing LLMs, agentic AI and other ML products in generalpeople can cry and bitch all they want about le ebil and immoral companies, le ebil capitalism and le ebil communism, but the reality is that AI, probably in the form of elaborate LLMs until we find something better, is here to stay and if you don't want a few corpos monopolizing its use then your stakes should be on using and improving open source, locally running (if not, through cheap API use) AI and agent workflows
>>108657160I use deepseek and it works great for me.Not gonna use jewish or jeet AI.
