>be me
>still rocking a ThinkPad T430s with classic keyboard in current year
>keyboard worthy of a king
Type on a chiclet keyboard and then touch the T430s glorious 7-row masterpiece. It’s like going from a McDonald's burger to a Wagyu steak.
>modular and easy to repair
Modern laptops:
>Oh no, my RAM is soldered, and my SSD died, guess I need a new laptop.
Where in my T430s I just pop open the sucker's back, swap in whatever you need. Broken hinge? $10 eBay replacement. Flexing on consumerism one upgrade at a time.
>inb4 it's slow
originally came with dual core i7 but now this thing’s running an upgraded i7-Quad, 16GB RAM, and two SSDs. Daily driver for dev work, VM hosting, and media consumption without breaking a sweat. coreboot and Arch installed, ofc
>ports on ports on ports
You know what’s missing from your ultrathin MacBook Pro? Ports. T430s? VGA, Thunderbolt, Ethernet, SD card slot, Express card slot, USB 3.0, and even a Blu-ray drive. Suck my dick.
>inb4 battery is shit
Main + Ultrabay battery = hours of comfy coding, even in 2026. When the power bank nerds are fighting over charging ports, I’m chilling with spare extras in my backpack that are charged and ready for work once the current one is drained. In general: magnesium roll cage, sturdy hinges, and removable batteries. I’ve dropped this beast so many times, and it just laughs at me. Meanwhile, your new MacBook gets a dent from *looking* at a corner of a table. A black, boxy, no-BS design that screams “I get shit done.” No RGB, no thin bezels, no nonsense. Just pure productivity and edge.

You can keep your soulless M5 MacBook Pros and Dell XPS Thinfragiles. I’ll be here with fully-upgradable, forever-reliable T430s. If you don’t get it, you’re NGMI.

Post your T430s setups, /g/, or seethe with envy.

My problem with these is that they run hot and are super noisy. Also the use of ABS plastic really degrades both the handfeel, and makes them feel super gross after you've had them long enough. The soft-touch lid is also gross as fuck.

>then touch the T430s glorious 7-row masterpiece
If you ever get a chance, try out the keyboard on pic related.
The T440 did downgrade the keeb from the T430 imo, but the T430 is far from what I would call a "masterpiece".
>modular and easy to repair

>Express card slot

>USB 3.0
Only one port iirc, which is a shame.
>Main + Ultrabay battery
You can do this, but IMO it's better to just carry a charger cable with you. The swappable battery is the real killer feature here.
>magnesium roll cage
true and nice, but not quite ideal. more durable than most laptops for sure.
>sturdy hinges
eh, not really. but it would stupid to knock it for this, as very few laptops have what i would consider an acceptably durable hinge.

imo the only advantage a t430 (any variant) has over an MNT laptop is the fact that it's x86 (and ofc that they're cheap as chips and utterly disposable).
In all other aspects, I'd rather get the MNT. The pocket reform in particular.

Since you asked so nicely https://litter.catbox.moe/vys8rz1lfxars1a3.zip

If I remember correctly, each frame is encoded either as a keyframe or an xor frame (differences), with pixel spans compressed using RLE, saved with variable length nibble encoding (3 bit payload 1 bit continue flag). This managed to squeeze all of bad apple to around 1 megabyte, while being light enough for the calculator to decode at around 25-50% CPU utilization.
I'm not sharing the encoder tho, too much work
>>
>>108660485
Yes, it's a bitch and a half to disassemble t4xx models to get to the BIOS chip. You can flash it with any SPI programmer, I presume. Most people use a Pi Pico (2040), or CH341A programmer (might be unsafe to do so). If you have one on hand, you can use a Raspberry Pi.

I'd flash it and sell it though if I were you.
>>108663961

Normalfags keep making videos on why (you) should buy a decade-old ThinkPad--for the sake of helping you concentrate and be more productive of course, it's not just mindless consumer fad.

No, that's accomplished by flashing a BIOS update with a modified EC. It *can* be done via SPI flashing, but that's just overcomplicating the process unless you went full retard and bricked it the first time around.
