What's the best video player?
mpc-hc
>>108661185MPV if you like configuring and ricing things.VLC & MPC-HC if you like pre-configured things.Arguing about these things is childish.
>>108661196>be me today>be at company >ubuntu 24>literal monster pc>latest i9 CPU 128 GB ram >2* rtx6000 (2X98GB vram)>need to check 30 videos>click on a 5min video [1080p h264]>VLC takes 5 fucking seconds to open THE FUCK IS THAT SHIT ???? I TRIED IT 5 TIMES IT ALWAYS TAKE BETWEEN 3~6 SECONDS TO LOAD WHAT THE FUCK
>>108661185VLCanyone who says otherwise is a larper or is trolling. there is absolutely no need to rice your video player.

On Windows it's PotPlayer, simply because it can deal with everything you could possibly encounter when pirating films/anime, and all the shaders and other configuration you might want to have.It can re-time subtitles if the frame rates don't match, you can load other video files to use as an external audio track. I've had to use all of this to cobble together the optimal version of an OVA - the best video from one file with the audio from another (that had the original dub) and subtitles from a 25fps rip.
>>108661196Increasing playback speed in VLC on my fedora system mutes the sound until I seek back a few secondsMpv good
double click a movie file, does it open?If yes, your video player is good enough."ricing" media players is mental illness and a straight path to troonism. You don't need more.

>>108661710So my Intel Atom isn't to blame after all? Thanks anon.

>>108661710that's what you get for running poorfag build. why are you surprised?
>>108661710you didn't mention what type of harddisk it has. If it's a 12tb hdd then it takes that long to load files unless they are cached
>>108662522There's something wrong with vlc on ubuntu with some machines. I had the same issue a few years ago. Vlc would take ages to load. It's perfectly fine on fedora, though.
>>108661185Parole Media Player
>>108661185vlc needs more configuring than mpv
>>108661723>No need to rice your video playerCorrect>Anyone who says otherwise is a larper or is trolling.Absolutely not, MPV is lighter, faster, and has flawless playback quality for any media as opposed to VLC, which can have various artifacts and issues especially with newer codecs.
>>108661710Initial load is even longer on my system. Probably more around 20 seconds until it's open. That's why I hardly ever use it.
>>108661868>simply because it can deal with everything you could possibly encounter when pirating films/animeso can mpv>It can re-time subtitles if the frame rates don't match, you can load other video files to use as an external audio track.so can mpvisn't pot player even an mpv fork?
>>108661185>MPC-HC (that you got from installing K-Lite Codec Pack Full)>madVR (if it isn't using 90% of your GPU you're still leaving quality gains on the table)/thread
>>108661185how does she do that
mpc-hc is my shit
>>108662522I tried opening a file on my nvme and hdd drives and the difference is negligible, the only time I don't have an almost instant file opening is when the hdd has spun down
>>108662522Op here, I honestly don't remember the speed of the ssd but it's a 2td m.2 one I think it's Samsung but not sure
>>108661710Probably snap. Use a newer version of Ubuntu, they've improved snaps a lot.Although, thinking about it I think the snaps and snapd are agnostic of OS version so not sure.

>>108665836She learned from ya muddah
VlcEverything else is cope and wrong
>>108661185MPC-HC, just make sure to switch video renderer/output to MPC Video Renderer so it can do colors properly and do passthrough HDR seamlessly if your monitor supports it and you don't use HDR in W11.
Across many years and machines I have never experienced no screen tearing on vlc. I am baffled by how many people recommend it.
