It's not a meme right? they just work and everything... right? a decade long worth of service... right?
>>108667573Everyone I know who has owned one has regretted it. It costs a lot of money and isn't very spectacular I think Mac is popular because of really good marketing and they have some software that designers use so if you are not stupid enough to fall for marketing and you are not a designer you shouldn't buy a Mac.
>>108667573Well, the ARM macbooks are only out for 6 years now.Intel macbook were shit due to intel being intel.
>>108667639I use inkscape, GIMP and Krita and they work fine for my design purposes.Blender for anything 3D related.WSL for everything UNIX/Linux and Oracle Virtual box if I want a desktop with Linux.Currently I'm on HP but honestly it is just as unreliable. my laptop is 3 months old and the charger isn't working properly. I'm just looking for a set it and forget it laptop. at this point I don't care too much which OS as long as it works reliably for years on end.
>>108667772If you're not earning money from your paintings, skip the MacBook. If you have to overthink $2k laptop you use for 5+ years, don't buy it either since you are too poor for it.But if you are making money, go for the cheapest 16-inch M5 Pro (it has the best cooling and the biggest battery, m5 max gets thermally throttled and it's only useful if you are editing 4k-8k videos).
It isn't even controversial. Every single person that I know who got a macbook in college over a decade ago still uses it. And it's like an afterthought for them, they never have any computer issues. My gf has an old banged up one that's still kicking.
I got a m1 16/512gb about 5 years ago. It has it’s quirks but what most impressed me was the battery life. Its getting a bit annoying lately. Refuses to shut down. Battery is not as good anymore Programs (non apple ones) hang quite often. Stuff like that. Even the apple stuff isn’t that great. Icloud and safari suck. Its still more than enough for my usecase though, so unless it breaks I cant justify buying a new one. My old windows laptops have been repurposed as tv or linux machines, but you can’t really do that with a mac. It’s one of the reasons I will not buy one again. And I still can’t get used to macOS, and I don’t understand why people think it’s sooo much better than windows.
>>108667573I'm using a 2015 MacBook Pro right now as my daily driver. Upgrading to a PCIe drive with a mod and a battery replacement in 2020 as part of a recall has made it work quite well in 2026 to the point I've returned M4/M5 models. I have been a bit lucky on the hardware front with this particular model though. When a MacBook fails, they fail hard. Hardware unreliability is at valid criticism of MacBook. I will say though that the M1 series model I got my parents continues to work great.MacBooks are ideal if you have a good set of eyes and ears. Their screens and speakers are excellent. They shine as content creation machines, especially audio, because of macOS exclusive software. Doubly so if you have an iPhone; you can remote into the iPhone from your MacBook, take phone calls and send texts directly off macOS.MacBook is an exceptional auxillary device. It's like a specialized air tool that can do a small subset of things better than anything else on the market. You use it as a complement to other stuff you have. That's why the Neo is so compelling.>pic unrelated
>>108667845Did you limit your battery charge to 80% with third party app? If not makes sense your battery got raped, apple only added the charge limit in tahoe 26.4.
>>108667860No but I also made sure to never leave in on a charger. Battery health is something like 85% so not too bad. I notice that some apps drain it way faster nowadays. My biggest problems come from the hangups and crashes I get with non-Apple apps that become more apparent with each new os release. It’s not the power, I think, but probably all the internal vetting and permissions the apps have to go through with each start up. Something the apple stuff doesn’t have to do. But idk. I find the OS “arrogant”, decides all these things for me that I don’t necessarily had any say in. Feel like windows or linux let you peek more behind the curtain and let you edit more how the machine is run.
>>108667573i have mine since nov2022.i haven't spent more than 6h in 4y to make everything work. I think the OS is worse since moving to tahoe. Sonoma was very good.
Geniunely thinking about making the switch cant bear "windows" 11 and dont like linux, though maybe i could bear with ubuntu.
>>108667860>>108667898Funnily enough, macbooks have been able to detect if they're on AC power for long periods of time and go into a kind of desktop mode where it keeps battery at 80%. Been there since at least MacOS 14 or 15 when I got my M3 pro
>>108667898>No but I also made sure to never leave in on a charger.Regardless of whether you left it on the charger, overcharging your battery past 80% has caused damage, which is the reason that feature exists in the Tahoe. I will not respond to the rest of your comments, it sounds like low IQ retard-babble with no real criticism, you can do everything through terminal on macOS.

>>108667573I was watching a raid array rebuild and zening out and it hit me, normies like you, apple marketing shill spammers, you will never be able to have an offline LANYou are too stupid and lazy. It's simply beyond you.The reasons why you would need one are incomprehensibe to someone who thinks brands are status symbols. The fact that LAN cables don't have a brand that signifies status to fools means you can't even understand why LAN cables exist or who would want one. I mean you know you are lying and selling awful underpowered overpriced 8gb uninspired thrash that traps consumers into an awful corporate walled garden cloud portal devices hell but you are so lacking ability, characater, morals, technical ability you are willing to spam this junk for low wages. That's your life. You probably spend most of it on food and rent and then use the free apple homosexual mating call product you get to sit in starbucks trying to hit on other men, hoping some elderly faggot will adopt you and you can live with them as a carer/prositute in exchange for some near geriatric ejaculating in your anus. Even if you won a lottery you would spend it all on overpriced, poor value brandslop logos and subscriptions, the little brain you have was completely overpowered by modern marketing, so much so you ended up a minion of it.You're the perfect example of the future digital slave, you will have to subscribe to get access to remote storage, cloud games, music, movies and computing resources accessed via terrible tiny screened, overpriced devices with awful specs deliberately designed to be useless for anything other that cloud access portals. Yet you will proudly display your slave brand logo as if telling the world you are a good slave before you go and let some geriatric ejaculate in your anus for food and then spend any time you have left spamming apple marketing idiocy in desperation to get another free sample because it means everything to you to own gank brandslop
Macbooks get that one update that fucks you up for good. Then you roll back and cope. Software stops working due to outdated OS. You give in and buy the next Macbook. It's about 3-5 years from the date of purchase until the update. It is the goyslop of technology. If you are a paypig you'll love it.
Big Sur fucked up the 2017 MBP (3 years). Tahoe is currently fucking up M2 Macbooks, maybe even M3. That's again 3 years of service, maybe 2 for some unlucky fuckers. These Macbooks and iPhones are a ticking timebomb. Releasing a product this shit and evil would have been out of the question just 10 years ago.
>>108668076How do you go to work, and can only afford $600 laptop of ebay, what do you do like??? Clean feces in Brazil/India for $200 per month? I am not even trying to be rude, just perplexed anon. M5 air is like $400 more and it smokes the m1.

>>108667573A lot of people using macbooks use old shit. The only people you see buying a macbook every fucking year are youtubers marketing Apple products. In short, they're generally reliable. But you'll find a lot of information on this model overheating, that model having a cable break on it, that model doing this and that. You're more likely to find problems with its software. Some things about macOS got considerably worse over time. You will find some bugs here and there. It's not the polished experience everyone wants to sell you. However it's still nowhere, nowhere near as awful as Windows in that aspect. Even latest macOS feels dead stable in comparison.Your biggest problem when switching to these machines if the amount of shit you have to commit to, unless you're willing to pay extra. Let go of any windows applications or ways of working with the system or you'll be paying for stupid shit like taskbars or worse, you might even end up paying for Parallels, which is probably the biggest scam related to Apple I've seen (yes, even a bigger scam than some of their hardware upgrade configurations). Let go or you will pay and pay and keep fucking paying for shit, trust me. Don't go and buy a fucking NTFS driver for the love of god.

Since there's like 7 applefag threads already I'll ask here instead of making a new oneIs it worth installing macOS on an external SSD?I'm using pic related with an actual SSD (SN770) that's about 30% faster than the internal one. There is essentially no gui control for icloud, so I troubleshooted and reset a bunch of stuff through the terminal. Didn’t work though, and there was no way for me to find out what was going on. Im not pretending to be some techno God, but I just find it interesting that most people think macos is so easy to use, while you can’t easily control a whole bunch of stuff that you can easily manage on windows.
