>>108669673KDE has always been a fucking buggy mess, I hate it, it should be wiped off the face of the earth.
>>108669673I don't see why I'm supposed to be upset about this. Fedora KDE 43 exists and works perfectly. I remember not really noticing any difference after upgrading from 42 which also worked perfectly. I'm not in any particular hurry for 44 and I'm glad they're not rushing it.

>>108669673you can use their wayland window manager with lxqt. There is no need to install the crappy desktop environment.
>>108669673What other options do you have? Gnome is iPad OS and Xfce is too alt-right. Everything else is irrelevant in a professional environment.
>>108669673>make KDE a main option in a distro that matters>suddenly KDE has to fix bugs in a timely mannerThis isn't a bad thing, this will simply hasten the end of the krash era because of a forced culture changeSoon there won't be any valid reason to touch gnome
I do not remember a single krash in Plasma 6. Plasma 5 loved to shit itself at every occasion.
>>108671668because in plasma 6 the krashes are overwhelmingly from shitty distros
>>108669811I need Fedora 44 because it has a newer ROCm version. DaVinci Resolve stopped working on my machine after upgrading to a 9070 XT because RDNA4 needs ROCm 7.x

>>108671616There is no krash era, KDE being buggy is a forced meme by Xfcejeets
Fedora 44 is due for release while Fedora 43 GNOME STILL fatally freezes your computer when you select your timezone on the first boot setup wizardmaybe try not using nigger rigged garbage distros that somehow swindled their way into a positive reputation?I've had browsers on Windows krash on me more than vanilla KDE 6
kde is such a spaghetti piece of shit i have legiyimately never tried it without getting bugs within minutes and the feature bloat and inconsistent UI make it really fucking annoying to useon the other hand if someone is actually maintaining a certain part well you get dolphon which is by far the best gui file manager
>>108677941The krash era existed in the Plasma 4 days but that was a long time ago. Unfortunately 99% of circulating Linux knowledge is at least 10 years out of date.
I am told by fucking ai-slop that on hyprland i need to tinker before i can for example "play vidya" - install x11 for steam, and it will not display or some shitand need drivers for vulkan? I though you get them with GPU drivers etc. How is this true, who is using WM?

>>108678764>The krash era existed in the Plasma 4 daysNo it didn't, Pradesh. KDE has always been the best DE. It's why it's the default DE in every worthwhile distro.
>>108679737Don't mix me up with the Indian schizo who refuses to post beef; Plasma 4 overpromised and the default ricing on a lot of distros looked fucked up. OpenSUSE looked fucking amazing on Plasma 4 but then you have something like Kubuntu which was complete ass during the Plasma 4 era.

>>1086696895.27 was actually a very polished release, because they spent the last few years of Plasma 5's life focused almost entirely on polish/bugfixes. Unfortunately, having a stable desktop is deeply unnerving and uncomfortable to KDE developers, so they made sure to make it fucking buggy, jank garbage again with the Plasma 6 release (which is only just now starting to get on par with late Plasma 5 again).
>>108685381Blame the move to Qt6. Plasma 7 will be much the same once Qt7 comes out, but that'll be in like 2030.
>>108685381KDE has had decades to get free of (or fork) Qt in order to implement a stable desktop. They refuse to do so, instead choosing to be led around by the nose by Qt Group Plc (Trollech). Maybe KDE is just marketing for Qt.
What is even the use case of KDE? You can get the same aesthetic with xfce, which is also instant and snappy.I swear it's just Steam Deck that popularized this shit DE because it's easier to ship like a Wintard DE clone to be the most tard friendly. That was also still KDE5, KDE6 is so much worse too.
>>108685444>Plasma 7 will be much the same once Qt7 comes out, but that'll be in like 2030.Yeah, unfortunately. Feels like there's no good distro release model for KDE. If you're on a rolling release, you get absolutely raped when a new major version comes out, but later on you actually want the rapid pace of kbug fixing/feature updates that a fast-moving distro affords. Prior to a major release, though, you want to pick a distro you can camp out on for a few years while the next version unfucks itself.>>108685468One of the bugs that's been annoying me is that parts of KDE are capped at rendering at 60hz, because it's a hard cap within Qt. https://old.reddit.com/r/kde/comments/1p26pu0/highrefreshrate_users_were_working_on_removing/6.6 helped with this issue somewhat, but the only way to get a completely smooth desktop on high refresh displays going forward is probably going to be to use a patched version of Qt.
>>108685534>2030 still sounds super futuristic to me>it's in less than 5 years
>>108685534>parts of KDE are capped at rendering at 60hzMany KDE apps are very good, but Plasma itself is kind of horrible. The problem is that KDE apps don't run properly outside of Plasma, e.g. Dolphin.
>>108685534>higher than 60 FPS
>>108685631Funnily enough, GNOME has been much better at high fps rendering on the desktop for a long time now (not counting VRR support which got added recently). Even now that the animations are (partially) fixed on KDE, GNOME feels much smoother. But it's GNOME, so...
>>108678830slop indeedif you're in a working display session, games will work toothe only thing you might have to do on something that isn't a full blown DE is tinkering with window rules because some games might behave weirdly (launching on wrong monitor, being stuck on half the screen etc.)
>>108685631even my shit monitor runs at 100Hz
>>108669811You don't have to be upset but OPs point is Krash DE being the reason for version delays is a pretty pathetic look for everyone
