In typical enshittification fashion they stopped making the EFBX and replaced the helium with air. Had to resort to ebay but seems fine so far (i am running badblocks which is taking forever).
How are they supposed to keep helium in a drive for 20 years anyway?
>>108671288With a check valve
Just buy a bunch of Ultrastar DC HC520
>>108670138why do this when you could've bought a WD elements, they put white label ultrastars in there, helium and allpretty happy of mine so far i got 20tb
>>108671407I might grab one later when i need more external storage.
>>108671288This isn't far from the truth >>108671302Helium can diffuse through metals but air cannot reenter. This will eventually create a higher pressure of outside air compared to the helium and the larger the difference the more energy is required for the helium to diffuse.
>>108670138>replaced the helium with air.it doesn't really matter in the end, it's a hard drive. I don't even care about smr, just bought cheapest 8tb drive I could find and it works great.

Pussy ass trannies still buying hard disks in 2026. Too pussy to Tyrone
I did buy an external western digital HDD once. It's very quiet when used but slow as fuck, should have done more research i guess (probably got an SMR one).
>>108672137Slightly misleading, "air" does not exert any meaningful pressure to slow down helium dissipation, and the outside air pressure will never be higher than what's inside, that's thermodynamically impossible. the partial pressure of helium in air is 0.000005 atm which is for all practical purposes a near perfect vaccum. Basically all of the helium will escape.
