I remember I was always told that the wiki is the greatest thing out there, in the beginning i wasn't able to install the full OS by reading it, as it left many things unexplained and many holes in the process. I completed it by watching a good yt video for it. Been over a decade now, and I know much more, but recently I installed artix that doesn't use systemd for time, so i installed openntpd, but that tool that is meant to set time, cannot do the only purpose its built for.. Sure, I installed chrony, let's check the wiki for instructions. I am expecting a simple command to sync my time and that's it. But no, they are talking about adding custom servers and config nobody fucking cares about.. all it took was a rare man page pull (man pages are also useless) to give me -s switch that does it. Why is documentation completely fucking useless on GNU+Linux?
>>108670367i didn't read your whole post but I agree the wiki is a mess and largely not usefulthe debian wiki has been more helpful for me despite using arch on most of my computers
>>108670367A lack of practical examples or simplest-first instructions. The archwiki is the last place I look for anything. I'll ask an AI first.
>>108670367you need tldr tldr.sh
Arch is a systemd distro so all of the "you might need this since you don't use systemd" articles tend to be the weakest ones.
>>108670367Some guy (prob a shitpost) had an xauth error when trying to log into xfce through ly on his first install, so I installed xfce4, and went to log in, and there's two options: xfce session, and xfce session(wayland). The wayland session does not work, so I thought I would investigate. Neither the Archwiki nor XFCE's documentation had anything regarding a wayland session.
Wikis are the internet equivalent of autistic infodumping.
>>108670367They refactored a big chunk of it in 2019 when they changed the installation process, and it all went to shit after that.
it's useless to you because you're illiteratefucking read, toddler
>>108670367real niggas use man

>>108670367>archwiki is and has always been uselessFACTOS NO CAPTOS
>>108670367>This article describes how to set up and run chrony, an alternative NTP client and server that is roaming friendly and designed specifically for systems that are not online all the time. My dude i don't want to shit on you but if they say it's an NTP client and server then you are expecting to fuck with custom servers and configs.
>>108671956Also you can set it up for local trusted server.So... etc/chrony.conf put this into there: local stratum 8and you are good if you don't have like other computer to sync with.
Maybe try like, a picture book explaining chrony, or looking at a watch. You buy a clock and this will never be a problem for you again. No one cares about computers.
your problem is falling for init system veganism, and trying to use something other than systemd-timesyncd.
>>108671686Not OP, but he's right: Arch Wiki is a mess because they diarrhea of the info dump. ANYTHING you're trying to look up quick and relevant info is buried under shit that doesn't matter unless you hit it (cornercases) and is not worth reading. It SORELY needs collapsible information boxes that are "if you have X problem [expand dong]" able, but they'll never do it.

>>108671411install labwc, that makes the session startit's not fully functional, you need to edit config files to set your keyboard layout and mouse speed
>>108670367> ADHD zoomer filtered by arch wikiLol

>>108670367The documentation on linux sucks except the exact part that you need. The wikis exist because the man pages are even worse.Literally nothing is worse than the man pages of most common utilities. Talking about coding and scripting abstractions for 800 pages but then detailing important command line flags for half a page and it misses most of them.

>>108670367I lost the screenshot now, but some 15 years ago there was a thread on the ArchLinux forums where the main Arch developer said that ArchLinux has always been designed in such a way to make maintaining it easy. One way they do this is by enabling all options and switches in all their packages. That way they ensure maximum chances for interoperability.ArchLinux is maintainer-centric, not user-centric. That's why Arch has more package managers than users.
>>108670367>all it took was a rare man page pullso in stead of reading the operation manual you read the install config guide and then complain that it doesn't give you operating instructions.are you retarded or something
>>108670388>laughs in gentoo
>>108670367>>108670388Bro this isn't the 1990s, wikis are fucking gay. Nobody wants to be some retarded starry eyed contributor exploited for labor under some fantasy of making a difference in teh community. Especially for shit that's constantly changing. The wiki grift is fucking over. The novelty has expired. The wiki foundation's incessant e-begging despite being flush with cash put an end to that shit. Nobody wants to be the thankless sucker toiling away for good goy points.
>>108677070hello bot/jeet, these posts arent about wikipedia, sorry you dont know english enough to get that, nobody wants to hear about your lust for izzat
