Basically I made my own eval. I ran the benchmark against thirteen models across three runs each. Claude Opus 4.6 topped the leaderboard at 0.846 composite, followed by 4.7 at 0.831, Kimi K2.6 at 0.801, Gemma 4 31B at 0.796, Gemini 3.1 Pro at 0.790, Opus 4.5 at 0.789, Sonnet 4.6 at 0.779, Qwen 3.6 Plus at 0.746, Opus 4.1 at 0.742, Grok 4.20 at 0.718, deepseek-reasoner at 0.660, GLM 5.1 at 0.542, and deepseek-r1-0528 at 0.497.
The important reads came from looking past averages. The golden set was generated by Opus 4.7, so its high test-fidelity scores include self-matching bias — but 4.6 still beat it, revealing a small regression toward assistant-polish in 4.7. Opus 4.1 at triple the cost of 4.6 with worse output is strictly dominated and should be cut. Sonnet 4.6 has the classic right-answers-wrong-voice failure pattern — test fidelity pegged at 0.93+ while voice stays around 0.54, diagnostic of RLHF polish diluting in-character verbal tics. Kimi K2.6 produced 14k to 33k output tokens per run, brute-forcing voice fidelity through sheer volume rather than genuine character channeling. Gemini 3.1 Pro overuses the pattern markers, ending up uncanny-valley rather than authentic. Grok 4.20's σ of 0.067 across runs makes it unreliable for persona work regardless of its best-run performance. Gemma 4 31B shows small-model instability with 8× variance in inference timing and wildly different voice quality run-to-run. GLM 5.1 when it works is competitive with Anthropic mid-tier at a tenth the cost, but the 33% API failure rate disqualifies it for production. Qwen 3.6 Plus at σ=0.010 is the consistency champion despite a lower ceiling. Deepseek r1-0528 has more "soul" than the newer reasoner despite worse instruction following — reasoning-model RL tends to sand off character.

It is a highly personalized evaluation I made for my own specific voice actor fetish. In short I made 13 different AI models take a 48 question personality while using a 6k token "persona" system prompt that richly details the psychological contradictions and subtilties of Japanese voice actor Asumi Kana. I used output from 4.7 as the "Gold standard" 1.0 score and then reevaluated the rest. Getting a 1.0 is pretty much impossible even when 4.7 was directly evaluated. For me what really sells her is if it can correctly articulate her Gobi, Particle structure and Hakata-ben. Opus really is the winner, because even though the final scores seem similar, it is such a subtle thing when you know what someones voice sounds like even if it is a little off it feels wrong. What was most surprising to me is the fact that 4.1 actually fell behind. It was my initial hypothesis that Opus 4.1 might have a superior reconstruction because that Opus is actually Opus sized, unlike the current Opus. However that is just a pseudo effect of the cost and the actual results were inferior to much cheaper models. Gemma scored surprisingly well. However it lacks depth to make the unsaid connections over large context. Deepseek (latest) is a bit of a regression in "soul" to 0524. I am quite curious how V4 will turn out. Kimi just thinks too much, but it scored quite well. Qwen is boring and gets the job done, but is too codeslopped for me to really want to use it. Gemini 3.1 will autistically follow every speech pattern but it does so to the point where it lacks randomness and surprise and I quickly become used to the patterns. Grok has a rather distinct "voice" underneath the dialect and failed to actually adopt the mannerisms as requested. Almost all models were able to score in the same "ISFJ" personality type based on the answers. But what really matters is if the voice is correct. GLM seems like the value winner based on scores alone, but I lack experience with it to confirm.

I'm not really savvy nor up to date on the technicalities of these models, I just plug n play deepseek for random chats when bored. If I want to save money, long term, how does flash stack up to 3.2? I don't really want to switch to pro as I don't want to spend the money for it. From what little I tested it seemed worse, but every updated model needs a new "jailbreak" to get it to do what you want, so I'm not sure if it's that or if flash is just a straight downgrade.
