I completely missed these back when they were relevant, but how come they just died out COMPLETELY? Did you ever have one /g/? Did you use it?I know they're inconvenient but they didn't even move to being niche, they just straight up got wiped. I found one that I'm hoping to try and I'm honestly a little bit excited to. Just need to buy some glasses. Do they still make 3D Movies and content? Where can I find rips bros? Checked usual sites and nothing
>>108675045it's kind of cool in the same way you can get those sweets that burst on your tongue playfully. Totally unnecessary distracting and novel all at the same time, people still just stick with something you can experience normally with normal levels of brain-switched-off-ness.
>>108675045They died because not enough content was made to justify their existence. You can watch the handful of movies with good 3D, some stock footage used to show the effect in supermarkets and that's about it. The only market for home 3D is home theater spergs but they already have 3D projectors.
>>108675045I don't know why we ever stopped using the extremely cheap red/blue 3D, you could make the glasses for like 30 cents and I'm pretty sure literally every display could display it
>>108675368>They died because not enough content was made to justify their existence. And like 90% of 3D content was lazy conversions that looked like shit.
>>108675383yeah I really wonder why would they try to sell new stuff with extra glasses and accessories and all that shit for money if they could have just used existing cheap tech instead, all they want to achieve is to have you enjoy 3d content right
The main reason 3D failed is the same reason VR is stuck in as a relatively niche media format - The burden of setting it up and getting ready to engage with it is too high compared to the benefit of the outcome. If every TV was a 3DTV and you didn't need to don special glasses and have a bunch of things to precisely succeed at (right glasses type, right media content type, right settings on the TV to pass the content and display it correctly) then 3D content would just be part of the landscape. But it's a pain in the butt so the only people willing to run the gauntlet and get it working are autists. Their families, if and when they are un-sperg enough to have one, are the only normoids that get to enjoy the fruits of that labor. VR is exactly the same. This shit isn't a smartphone you can simply drop money on and revolutionizes the way you engage with content.Industry could have done a much better job of integrating and commoditizing 3D, but they didn't and so it failed.
>>108675045Most people have screwed their eyesight by now, so they've lost interested in it.
>>108675815yeah I get people sell stuff for money but like even as a end user side thing why did people not make their own 3D content
>>108675978probably because it's useless shit, gives you headache and there is simply no demand for it unless its shilled as the next big thingsame as vr apart from few spergs jacking to 3d anime shit, no one wants or needs it
>>108676090aye but I'll always fondly remember daffy duck kicking a can right at the screen
>>108675862>have screwed their eyesight by nowin what way? Is 3D bad for your eyesight?
>>108675368>>108675759>And like 90% of 3D content was lazy conversions that looked like shit.Oh...right. I was hoping for more I guess having never tried them.Do they still make 3D content you can find rips for? Cinemas still get 3D releases so I'm sure there must be something out there, but I can't find anything for modern movies.Any help bros?
>>1086750453d movies sucked. avatar was supposed to be the best 3d movie and it looked meh. 3d games however, can be very good. not talking about vr shit, but existing pc games converted to stereo 3d with mods. still have my lg oled that was 4k and passive 3d. supposedly the best 3dtv ever made. i think ar glasses produce better 3d now, and those things are really popular now.
>>108675368>They died because not enough content was made to justify their existenceNo, that's fucking bullshit. There was tons of 3D content, including just about every major game and movie that released around that time period. It died out for the same reason VR has - it's a dumb gimmick that 99% of people don't care about, don't want and will never use. See also: Curved TVs.
>>108675833>>108675193But see, even those things said, I still don't get how it didn't at least end up niche instead of permaded
>>108675045I still have my 3D TV from 2012, it was pretty neat with PS3 games that supported it, but movies were usually post-processed into 3D and the effect didn't add much. You could either have passive 3D, like mine, which halved your vertical resolution and killed brightness, but didn't introduce any flickering.Or you could have active 3D where the glasses act like shutters instead of polarisers and are synced with the display. In any case you sacrifice brightness and it's a hassle compared to just watching the screen, I'm not surprised it didn't take off.
I never saw a 3D movieWell no wait, I think I saw a 4D Shrek thing at universal studios and that must have been in 3D. I don't remember anything about it expect for when it misted us with water and the seats rumbled.I guess I missed out, if only I knew it was an era that wouldn't last forever. I mean I was always kinda curious
>>108675045>ack when they were relevantthey were never relevant nobody bought them and the TV industry learned that even normies won't fall for all of their bullshit
People don't mind going to the movies to see shit in 3D and absolutely nobody was interested in trying to do that in their house for 10X the price of a normal TV
