Should I get the Dell 16 premium or the Thinkpad p1 gen 8 from work?I will use it for gaming but not triple A games or anything mostly friendslop like PEAK or some 3D puzzle games. I'm leaning towards the Thinkpad because the keyboard is better (I type exclusively on the laptop when at work) and because the older Dells we had were dogshit in terms of reliability. But on paper the Dell is better so I'm still on the fence. The Dell also has an OLED screen which isn't shown in the image

First time posting here. After graduating I decided to get my first personal laptops, and unfortunately have fallen for the thinkpad meme.Got a T440s which is my daily driver for my work and I feel so proud of it as a first major personal purchase. Since I needed something with Windows 11 due to some bullshit windows security for a remote desk connection I found a x280 for 150. Pretty solid, great screen and portability but not quite fun for long periods.Now I've gotten the terrible habit of doomscrolling Marketplace for some oldies. found an uncommon SL400 which I wanna test dual booting/upgrading it as well as add it a working wifi card. Got my eyes set for a T410 and an x220 for 50 each, and will stop the splurging there.So far my favorite things are the keyboard and the nipple. It's impressive just how much quicker I feel on Excel after learning some shortcuts with PgUp/PgDn and not using the trackpad. Sorry for the blogpost but I've fallen too hard and too deep into this rabbit hole and have no one to share it with. I might post later a pic of my collection so far like those /k/tists with their respective pieces of old fun junkIt's been so long since I've been here, captchas have become IQ tests now
>>108681731The SL series is basically the older equivalent of the modern day E series, I don't think it's a good idea to buy any of them even at a cheap(er) price. Who knows how many reliability problems they might have now, a decade and a half after they were first released. Even back then they were flamed by reviewers for basically being reskinned IdeaPads, you should go for either the T410 or X220. If you want a C2D shitbox you could always buy a T400 or a 4:3 T61 if you care that much about aspect ratios. I have a W500 myself and it works excellently for everything I need it to do, which is mostly playing older games and ripping and encoding media.
Do T-14s look meaningfully different from X1s? I want to get a new work laptop but the IT team is convinced that they are mandated with buying nothing but complete garbage as long as the spec sheet look right. Anything I will miss from my old X1?

>>108685608They're configured weirdly. At least in my territory. Intel ones are all heavier and have 14.5 inch screens, AMD ones don't have OLED. They do allow you to get the X1 spec but for less though at the cost of weighing a lot more.

Is the E490 good? Found one for 49€, looks ok but no RAM nor storage included, has an 8th gen i5. Why does lenovo have so many Thinkpad variants? What are the actual differences between E and L as for lenovo to consider worthwhile selling both models since both are "lower quality entry thinkpads"? At least Dell is quite simple to understand within their market between Inspiron, Latitude and Precision. It's almost as if Lenovo treats the Thinkpad as it's own brand itself and each letter would be a separate model As an aside, studying the T450-T480 models I've come to the conclusion that they aren't that different among each other as to be considered good deals to get if i can get a t440(s) or a t480, mainly because of the quad core. Am I correct in this assesment? Because in my country you can see basically all these models for a similar 150-200 range which deletes any price preference
