They long refused to react on questions about the security risks. When an answer was finally given, it boiled down to a simple "There is no reason to assume that we would have placed malware inside." Again after a really long time the authors finally mentioned what other source code they used to generate some−but not all−of the pre-compiled code. They did not mention the build methods and refused to prove that this really was the used source code. The real identities of the authors is unknown.

Linux mint might seem like a user friendly option. I do remember starting on it myself but what i noticed was that while it had a user interface and software that was supposed to make it easy to use it simply wasn't since you would run into issues that couldn't be easily fixed.Linux mint (unless you go for the debian edition) also happen to be a fork of a fork which is just stupid. Debian is probably a sinking ship now though.I honestly Found Arch Linux to be easier to use and had less problems than linux mint. At least Arch Linux has a decent wiki still where a lot of things are well documented. As for standard Ubuntu: nobody should touch anything from them ever after the numerous malware incidents on their snap store (they seem to make stupid decisions in general and deserve to fail).I remember installing linux mint on a computer i build for my grandmother. It seemed to work fine but then once i had already handed over the computer it just broke down for reasons that are unclear to me (she ended up going back to windows).

>>108686379> Learn what a package manager is. You have rpm-ostree in Bazzite. Bazzite is not SteamOS, it's not immutable.Bazzite is immutable, rpm-ostree creates full system overlays. So when you install anything using rpm-ostree it will rebuild the whole OS image and ask you to restart to boot into it.Use brew and distrobox when they are enough.Distrobox makes it easy to have full hardware passthrough.Brew is just normal package manager that install everything into userspace.
>>108686472When people say "immutable" they're thinking of something like SteamOS or GnomeOS where there's no such thing as rpm-ostree and almost everything is read-only and can't be altered or overridden. In Bazzite the "immutability" aspect is non-existent. It behaves exactly the same as any other distro in 99.9% of cases without even having to rely on brew or distrobox. You have rpm-ostree and a lot more stuff can be edited and pretty much everything can be overridden.

>>108686669slackware is GNU/Linux for windows users.think about it:- you have to install every program, besides the most basic ones, from some homepage after you downloaded it individually- installing things takes time and often will break your system- upgrading to new versions successfully relies on 99% sheer luck- slackware had its naming scheme altered by skipping from slackware 4 to slackware 7. like windows did multiple times as well, changing from version to year-based release names to simple names to version names again.- slackware still retains the same basic functions without any real innovation like windows does since 1.0. all they add is some more blingbling in the DE.- slackware users are uncaring, egoistic children that think they are being clever for using a cumbersome operating system for a mundane reason. in windows, that is "GAEMS!!!!", in slackware "NO DEPENDENCY MANAGEMENT MEANS FREEDOM!!!"- they both have their own operating system cult leaders. bill gates vs that volkerding guy- slackware and windows both dont care about support for architectures other than x86. only lately, after lots of nagging and threats, they have released a half-assed 64-bit version that breaks constantly. ARM, PPC, they all will never see any slackware or windows on them.SLACKWARE = GNU/WINDOWS

>>108687266I think other distros might be better for low grade powerusers whose power level isn't enough to deal with immutable distros for advanced scenarios. For actual "average users" immutable atomic distro might be easier/better because it doesn't have a chance of breaking in the middle of update, or in any other way end up in broken state that requires tinkering to get out of. As for advanced scenarios they don't need those thus don't mind those are harder than regular distros with regular package managers.
>>108687369You can break an immutable distro with rpm-ostree, requires "tinkering" by going back to a good image and removing the conflicting packages. This happened to me when I had a KDE program layered and rebased to GNOME/Silverblue, wouldn't boot properly.
