OP here. /g/ always blaming the OP for not "following the guide" when the guide doesn't mention anything about the kindle deleting your sideloaded books when connecting to the internet for the first time in a while. yes it really does that. it goes out of its way to delete everything you put on it via calibre. that's how it managed to free so much space and update itself.
