I don't understand how cable management would work with this stuff and why you need the xlr cable in the first place if you could just plug the mvx2u audio interface directly into the mic and the usb c in the pcpretty sure the guy who took this picture also didn't know how to do it
>>108681978maybe the microphone is used further away from the laptop
>>108681978This >>108682323, and long USB cables are more prone to problems than long analog balanced XLR cables.Although perhaps there was no such thinking involved and the guy just made do with whatever cables he had on hand.
>>108682640>more prone to problemsThat is very generous. USB degrades around 20 feet, XLR can do hundreds in the same conditions.
>>108682640if the the usb cable that came with the mvx2u audio interface I have, is long enough to run through the mic arm, plug the interface directly in the mic, and then have the laptop next to the mic arm and plug in the usb cablethat means I don't need an xlr cable, right? or is it somehow bad to plug the interface into the mic directly?
>>108685081And, is it bad that the usb cable that it came with is so long? Should I use one that is shorter to lose less quality?
>>108685081>>108685170>that means I don't need an xlr cable, right?Yes.>or is it somehow bad to plug the interface into the mic directly? No, that's what it was made for.>And, is it bad that the usb cable that it came with is so long? Should I use one that is shorter to lose less quality? No, the included USB cable should be fine. The maximum length of an USB 2.0 cable is said to be 5 meters (16.4 feet).
>>108681978You really want some spare cable length when attaching shit to a laptop via USB that's easy to knock off a desk or get pulled on.
>>108685958Thanks a lot brosef. Been kinda overthinking all this stuff for months. I've had the mic for months and finally bought a boom arm the other day. Elgato low profile pro. It feels like garbage especially for costing 170 euros wtf. It squeaks and scrapes at the hinge. Might be a bad unit or maybe I ruined it with overtightening. Or maybe just garbage.I will probably return it but other than it being garbage quality, I like the low profile aspect of it. It allows for teams video conference with mic out of shot at about 10" from mouth. (Not optimal but still it sounds as good or better than boom arm headset without looking like a dork, so it looks like I have no mic at all and I wear wired earbuds that are invisible from the front)
>>108685988Interesting, but then where would you put the interface? On the desk? Under the desk? Directly in the mic is also possible but could be risky
>>108685958so this is the way it's designed to be used? No need for XLR ?
