Why are you so obsessed with getting updates? Do you actually spend the entire day searching for them?
Just stick with LTS or ESR software and never deal with that hassle again.
>>
Because they run nuclear reactors which power the hospitals and the stock exchange. Very serious users these updooters are, anon, dealing with the most sensitive information that holds the nuclear launch codes.
>>
They cannot miss an updoot or the hydroplants they operate could be compromised by the bad actors. I mean have seen the gorillion dollar savings they possess? Gotta protect all that fuck you money with updoots, if you know what I mean, anon.
>>
I mean seriously, who would want to see an airplane accident involving a hacked system in charge of diverting air collision traffic? These updooters, anon, are dealing with some serious shit.
>>
Updates 75% of the time just break things that work. And yes this was the case 30 years ago too.

>>

I'm not. I use Windows 7. I also have a job making about $120k only saying this to preempt the NEET accusations.

I can unironically do everything I need to do from my now 13 year old thinkpad and windows 7.
>>
>>108682581
I actually really fell for this image like two years ago and made not updating software a part of my personality. I thought I was so cool for staying on the "old version".

The thing is, unless it's a project on GitHub like a game source port where the old version is easily and safely accessible (and the new version objectively worsens the experience, and the old version still works) there is no reason to update. Except, usually the old versions are only accessible through some ghetto ass downgrade software like with macOS OR the old version stops working and needs a ghetto ass patching software to run again. Perhaps after that you can use an activator script, too! Trust me bro massgraveDOTdev tootally legit. Just run as Admin.

Obviously the new version is going be different. it isn't always bad. OP pic is expertly designed ragebait for autistic people who don't like change. It couldn't be any better. It's not directly addressing it, but making a character you "don't want to be" so then you really won't do it. Don't fall for it bros

LTS is supremely comfy until you actually do need something fairly recent, at which point it can quickly spiral into an autistic rabbit hole.

Searching? Searching for what?
I just run a command once a day, do you think that is too much?
>>
>>108683283
that's bad analogy
but you don't know enough about the history of computing to ever understand why
>>
>>108683379
Windows 11 has objectively greater capabilities than Windows 7, perfectly suitable analogy. I'm sure 7 is fine for a narrower set of functions.
>>
>>108683283
it's more like I don't NEED a 2026 car, my 2007 econobox is fine (and in fact preferable in the vast majority of cases).

The autist community surrounding Win7 has gotten to the point where most software that isn't "supported" can still run. If not for this and open source stuff made for Windows 7, then I would indeed be having a much more difficult time. But the analogy you're making is very inaccurate.

>>108683407
I'm sure it does, but I have to use 11 for work and it's the worst OS I've ever used, worse even than 10 which I didn't think was possible. I know it has more features or whatever but frankly I cannot name anything that comes to mind as a new feature that's actually useful.

Could you name some? I'm genuinely curious.

The only differences I notice are practically all for the worse.
>Inconsistent UI
>clicking the time on the taskbar opens up some weird window filled with bullshit instead of showing the calendar
>everything lags and is slower on my work laptop despite being literally 13 years newer and having 32GB of memory compared to my shitbox thinkpad
>you now need to click "show more options" just to get to a normal context menu from a right click
>and so on etc etc
>>
>>108683435
Snap layouts
Virtual desktops
Better multi-monitor support

When I click the time on my taskbar it shows the calendar, and that calendar has a built-in timer
>>
>>108682581
I must update because I am waiting for improvements for the feature that I actually like using. Example: jellyfin install on a NAS system that requires a new driver so I update so the ffmpeg will work on the nas.
>>
>>108683507
>Snap layouts
>Virtual desktops
>Better multi-monitor support

I had a feeling these might be brought up. Not trying to be smug, but I already have the first two. I have them even on my Windows XP computers. It's true that now they're incorporated into the OS, but I don't really see any functional difference/advantage in doing that versus having 3rd party software to do the same thing.

In case anyone is interested:
For snapping and tiling windows, I use AquaSnap. It works well but some features aren't there if you don't get the "Pro" version, which I don't have. I find the free functionality about on par with newer windows.
For multiple desktops, I use Dexpot. Works great.

I will admit that I often have multiple monitor headaches on my computer especially when I leave home and come back to plug it back into its dock, so you do have a point there.

But on the whole, as you can see, many of the newer features added in windows just add the functionality of existing 3rd party applications, many of which work very well.

Why are you being gaslit by a retard anyway? The only thing Vista+ is lacking proportional window scaling and multi-monitor taskbars. It'd be one thing if they were talking about xp, but we're talking about aero snap, here's a gorillan different multi-output projection modes, here's a multi-seat desktop server os era of windows. The only thing you needed to point out was, something something, "multi-desktop support has always been an officially supported thing requiring third party software """and a server license""""
>>
>>108683675
we're not talking about Linux though. My home server runs linux. Why would I use linux on my home daily PC when I have the best home OS ever made already on it and also I'm a contrarian faggot lol

also even if we were talking about linux updates the updooter mindset is still annoying.
>>
>>108683706
>Hurr why would I need security updates for software? My great grandpa's shovel from 1923 works fine!

Total zoomzoom who never installed XP back in the day just to instantly get 0 click malware. Imprinted on Windows 7 like a baby duck. Lmao.
>>

>Why are you being gaslit by a retard anyway?
I'm traveling for work and now it's my weekend but I don't get to go home because I'm on call so I literally have nothing better to do right now. I'm already suffering and doomed to just sit here and do nothing so I don't really care about engaging right now here. Not like anyone was ever gonna convince me to use 11, lol. When I have to use it for work I want to kill myself
>>
>>108683300
Did a 12 year old make this? Holy fuck
>>
>>108682581
If the Linux desktop continues to improve, then I want those improvements now rather than later. Windows is a different story, as it has long since passed its zenith.

I don't update anything unless it breaks. Most often that means when a website starts giving me errors because YOUR LE BROWSER IS LE OUT OF DOOOOT!
Everything else just doesn't get updated
windows 7 btw
>>
>>108683162
Weekly updates are a sure way to destroy your flash memory.
>>
i warned updooters that they were going to have malware or vulnerabilities installed via updooting and they didn't listen
>>
>>108682581
1 i get new features
2 keep everything up to date seems to fix things more often than breaking them

Aversion to updating stuff is caused by shitty proprietary software like windows, there is a reason why most linux powerusers will gravitate towards rolling release distros like arch

The distros themselves are stable

Do you realise people took steps to plug the holes before connecting to the internet? Why do you assume that everyone must have been a retard? Everyone had their own MUST HAVE essential software, browser add-ons, codecs, plug-ins and so on after a fresh install.

Forced telemetry and advertisment elements within windows isn't going to make windows users pay for a Copilot subscription.

Stay mad.
>>
>>108682581
i update kicad because they actually add new, useful features with each update. i can't think of any other piece of software that i use where updating has improved my experience -- it either stays the same or, more commonly, gets worse.
>>
>>108682581
because updooting gives me a sense of purpose since i'm a neet, same with distro hopping.

I actually like the idea of reviving some old machines. Finding that old software and getting it to function well, like when it was the new hotness.
Did that with 7, vista and xp a few years ago. Maybe will try 2000 next. But I'm not very familiar, I knew that all kinds of fancy software existed for XP, but no idea what people used in the 90's.
Only thing I'm worry about is how stable would it be. Pretty sure odl software was far less stable, oder of magnitude probably. Otherwise than that old software is great.
>>
>>108685865

i've had both arch and debian testing systems commit suicide from updates

It's called testing for a reason
>>

>>

let us hear of these stable rolling-release systems
>>
>>108688907
wake up, honey, it's time for your daily lennartware patch
>>
>>108688908
"Stable" and "rolling release" are antonyms. You can't have a stable release if you are constantly "rolling"— it may not crash, it may be "reliable" but it isn't stable in the sense of "Debian stable".

For a rolling release that actually tests stuff you can check out openSUSE Tumbleweed but again, not "stable"... they have Leap for that.

Windows 95 was the most fun era for software imo, when cd-rom was new and exciting and publishers were experimenting with the new possibilities. Install Plus and Encarta to start with.

I’ve had the opposite experience, actually. I tried installing XP on an old laptop and then some old software with zero connection to internet and everything works great. It’s really cool.
