>>108691910>the difference a console one and a chinese knockoff is like 50 bucks in price and exactly the same qualityThat's absolute bullshit. ...the Chinese knock-offs are actually far higher quality than Sony or Microsoft official controllers. I bought an 8BitDo Pro 3 for $35 a while back and that has TMR sticks, Hall triggers with an optional hair lock, motion controls, a fantastic d-pad, swappable face buttons, four exta programmable buttons (no software required) and even comes with a high quality charging dock that doubles as a place to house the 2.4GHz adapter so it only takes up one USB port (plus it also supports wired or Bluetooth connection and works with just about everything). Don't like the PlayStation stick layout? Their Ultimate range is the same stuff but Xbox-shaped.Official console controllers are an overpriced embarrassment and as someone who doesn't care about trackpads, I see no reason why I'd pay Valve $100 for this thing either.

>>108691887It's a gyro pad that makes gyro usable. Other pads are either switch clones (that don't support analog triggers on this mode, and some have input latency on gyro), or the dualsense. These have no dedicated gyro toggle let alone the grips for readjustment. It's pricey but a lot of non-chinese gamepads are outrageously pricey when they start including basic things like non-standard drift prone analog sticks and back buttons. A lot of chinese controllers have those, but they fail to add anything new that more expensive "elite" controllers don't add. My primary issue with it is standards. This controller has no haptic feedback worth a shit (it cannot translate dualsense calls or anything similar for it), has very standard analog triggers, the d-pad is not talked about as though it's just an afterthought (the one on the deck is basically trash), essentially for an "every gimmick gamepad" it doesn't really have all of those. Standard vibration might as well be disabled in this day and age. Also the touchpads are something a lot of people are not actually gonna... touch. You can argue it's good for a computer you don't have easy access to (as in, you don't have a mouse or keyboard nearby), but aside from that the ones on the deck aren't all that precise. If something the surface creates some weird friction that doesn't allow that. And the puck is kind of fucking retarded. It's a thing that just sticks like a sore thumb. They give up on a classic dock where you can place your gamepad and instead you have this little thing hanging around with the argument that you could use it to charge while gaming. I have some charging cables laying around on my desktop and it's unsightly really. The way the cable looks it retains kinks like a shitty one.

Literally nothing about this is worth $99Except the trackpads. For anyone who owned/owns a steam deck this thing is easily worth that because they understand how integral controller trackpads are to PC games They solve the number one issue with all controllers which is the horrific lack of precision without removing the stick entirely like the original steam controller. It's pretty much a perfect solution >>108693227>Also the touchpads are something a lot of people are not actually gonna... touchThey're definitely still worse than stick and gyro for precision in fps but where they stand out is compatibility. Any sort of menuing that intends you use a mouse is obviously the most important but they also come into play whenever gyro isn't reasonable i.e. lying in bed/travel and offer a good enough alternative while still being miles better than sticks

Wish it had two gyros but will make do with the trackpads and extra back buttons. Going to get one day one if possible. I really like making configs so this is hard to beat in terms of options you have with Steam Input. Too confusing for most people though so this will probably just do so-so in sales. I understand why they did not add more shit because they wanted to keep it similar to the Steam Deck. I have a GC Ultimate controller coming so I will have something with two gyros. My only other issue is figuring out a good counter-strafing solution on a controller. Using the stick is slower than two buttons. Its similar to "leverless" sticks and fighting games.

>>108697559That looks great, but it seems it doesn't have gyro, is there an xbox controller with gyro? It's not a hard requirement, but if I was gonna splurge I'd like to get all features, even the niche good ones
>>108691910Chinese knock-offs are dogshit. I have a SF 25-30th's (forgetting) 8bitdo Genesis 6-button and that shit doesn't fucking work on PC (bindings are wrong) and the membrane for it breaks easily. You get what you pay for applies. And the Deck's controller layout is solid.
>>108691912Probably as a collector's item or spare parts for the crazies that fell in love with it and broke their bumper/R, L1's.Otherwise, no not really. There's a reason Valve fireselled their remaining stock before the Deck launched. Nobody really bought those because the concept of huge trackpads (over the Decks smaller ones) just didn't work for controller games. The smaller trackpads work better because you're able to put mini menus or mouse-controls on them while using ABXY/regular controller for stuff that wants it (generally console ports).
>>108704879>controller can't function without RAMAnon, all controllers don't need RAM.The Decks controller layout is literally through Steam, which is part of the reason it's requiring Steam. Anything you "flash" to it is just Valve's controller bindings being sent to your PC to interpret the bluetooth/responses.
>>108705464confidently wrong

The world's first controller for Linux.>The Steam Controller is designed for devices that use Steam. It works with Windows and with Macs, but Steam has to be running. Otherwise, it's seen as a hybrid mouse/keyboard input device. (Even on a PlayStation, it's seen as a mouse. >The exception is Linux, where Valve has a driver in the kernel with gamepad functionality).Linux is a first-class citizen, Windows is a second-class citizen. You love to see it.

Because no, really, they are so fucking loud it's distracting. I was replaying Dark Souls 2 with it and I'd never noticed til then how much menuing you do in the game, because of the CLACKACLACKACLACKACLACK as you swap armour/rings or go about un- and re-equipping all your gear because of the corrosive pools and urns, etc. Apparently you can swap the rattly magnetic buttons for the normal plastic ones used in the Pro 2- as well as the 2's rubber membranes, which allow for a ~30% lower g/cm^2 actuation force (can definitely see the benefit, the stock membranes of the Pro 3 feel much more resistant vs. my Switch Pro Controller such that my thumb gets more tired more quickly with the former) however some of the replacement parts are exclusive to the 8bitdo official shop and they won't ship to Australia for some baffling reason.
